This is the man who painted the picture. His name is Piet Mondrian.

1872(Holland)-1944(New York City
He liked to use lines put together as squares and rectangles.
Placing these squares and lines on the canvas was very important to him.
He liked to use the colors red,yellow,blue,black and white.

Mondrian started his own art style called De Stijl (The Style). His artwork became more abstract and he limited his palette to primary colors.

Mondrian grew up in an artistic family. He enjoyed painting and went to art school in Amsterdam.

Mondrain enjoyed the artwork of the cubist painters such as Picasso and Braque. Soon Mondrian’s artwork began to get more abstract.
