The History of the
Christmas Tree...
did you know?
It is believed that decorating live
trees at Christmas originated in the
16th century in Germany using cakes,
cookies, fruit & nuts to decorate.
Special small glass ornaments were
made by glass makers and tinsel was
made from tiny strands of silver.
In the 17th century, candles were
added for beauty, but watched very
closely. The strand of electric lights
was invented in the 1890’s but didn’t
become popular until the early 1900’s
when the artificial tree was
introduced.
Today, the Christmas tree
continues to be the most popular of
all decorations worldwide to
celebrate the month long festivities.

The Christmas FruitcakeYay or Nay?
The fruitcake is an American tradition for some families that started as a British tradition when the dessert was
called a Christmas cake or a Plum cake. This cake is loaded with candied or dried fruits, nuts and spices. It has a long shelf life which is why many folks
make jokes about it. Give it a try, you may find that you really like it…and that’s no joke!
