UNCHANGING

1. Adam and Eve – God’s good world vs. the curse Genesis 3:14-21 [emphasis on verses 14 & 20-21] à First Prophecy of God’s promise to restore humanity and creation through Jesus Christ. I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.

Adam named his wife Eve because she was the mother of all the living. The Lord God made clothing out of skins for Adam and his wife, and He clothed them.

2. Abraham – Genesis 12 à God calls him out of Ur of the Chaldeans. a. [Genesis 12:1-3]

Now the Lord said to Abram,

“Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house,

To the land which I will show you; 2 And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; 3 And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

3. [Genesis 15:4-6] à God establishes the covenant with him.

Now the word of the Lord came to him: “This one will not be your heir; instead, one who comes from your own body will be your heir.” 5 He took him outside and said, “Look at the sky and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then He said to him, “Your offspring will be that numerous.” 6 Abram believed the Lord, and He credited it to him as righteousness.

4. Isaac is born – The son of Abraham that proves God is going to fulfill His promise.

5. Isaac’s son, Jacob – The father of the 12 tribes of Israel. a. [Genesis 35:9-12]

6. Joseph – sold into slavery by his brothers. a. Ends up in Egypt b. Ends up as the #2 in command of Egypt. [picture of Jesus] c. Egypt saves the world from starvation, including his family. d. God continues His covenant promise through Joseph. e. JUDAH – one of the tribes; Lineage od David; Lineage of JESUS CHRIST

7. Moses – To end their servitude to pharaoh, God calls Moses. a. [Exodus 3:10-14] à “bring my people out.” b. Moses’ generation is full of unbelief toward God. c. But, God keeps a remnant (a small group) who believes in God’s promised

8. Joshua – one of the 2 spies in Canaan that believes God’s promise. a. [Numbers 13:25-33] b. Caleb is the other. c. Israel enters the land of promise.

9. DAVID – Line of the Jesus. a. [2 Samuel 2:5-7]

b. Even though the kings of Israel did evil in the sight of God, HE kept His promise to keep a descendant of David on the throne forever.

c. The Root of Jesse à JESUS! Our King! i. [Isaiah 11:2] - In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a

banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious.

d. Divided kingdom – north and south; Judah in the south (God kept His promise)

10. The Prophets a. Isaiah – Prophecies the coming Messiah

Isaiah 9:6-7 - For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.

b. Daniel – refuses to worship the king; thrown into a pit.

i. Daniel chapter 6 ii. Raised out of the pit after he interprets King Neb’s dream. iii. He is made 2nd in command of the entire nation. à chapter 2

11. Esther – she saves God’s people from Haman, a high official to King Xerxes of Persia.

a. Mordecai her uncle helped save the Jews by alerting her of Haman’s plan.

12. Birth and Life of Jesus Christ. a. Fulfillment of OT prophecy b. Starts with Eden 4,000 BCE. c. 6,000 years of keeping His promise to His people. d. Gentiles are included because of FAITH.

i. ABRAHAM! à it started with Abraham. ii. God NEVER went back on His promise. iii. Romans 4:20-21

1. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

13. James 2:23 – righteous by faith a. Also Romans 4:22

When Lloyd C. Douglas, author of many novels, was a university student,

he lived in a boarding house.

Downstairs on the first floor was an elderly, retired music teacher,

who was unable to leave the apartment.

Douglas said that every morning they had a ritual they would go through together.

He would come down the steps, open the old man's door, and ask, "Well, what's the good news?"

The old man would pick up his tuning fork, tap it on the side of his wheelchair and say, "That's middle C! It was middle C yesterday; it will be middle C tomorrow;

it will be middle C a thousand years from now.

The singer upstairs sings flat, the piano across the hall is out of tune…

But, my friend, THAT is middle C!"

The old man had discovered one thing upon which he could depend, one constant reality in his life.

Yahweh is Unchanging

Malachi 3:6 - Because I, Yahweh, have not changed, you descendants of Jacob have not been destroyed.

Numbers 23:19 - God is not a man who lies, or a son of man who changes His mind. Does He speak and not act, or promise and not fulfill?

Isaiah 40:8 - The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God remains forever.

Psalm 33:11 – The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart from generation to generation.

Psalm 90:1-2 (Moses) - Lord, You have been our refuge in every generation. Before the mountains were born, before You gave birth to the earth and the world, from eternity to eternity, You are God.

Psalm 102:25-28 - Long ago You established the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You will endure; all of them will wear out like clothing. You will change them like a garment, and they will pass away. But You are the same, and Your years will never end. Your servants’ children will dwell securely, and their offspring will be established before You.

Psalm 119:89-90 - Lord, Your word is forever; it is firmly fixed in heaven. Your faithfulness is for all generations; You established the earth, and it stands firm.

Hebrews 6:17-19 - Because God wanted to show His unchangeable purpose even more clearly to the heirs of the promise, He guaranteed it with an oath, so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to seize the hope set before us. We have this hope as an anchor for our lives, safe and secure.

James 1:17 - Every generous act and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights; with Him there is no variation or shadow cast by turning.

Hebrews 13:8 - Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
