BOARD MEETING cont. Old Business. David Getreu gave a brief history of the formation of the Granville Kiwanis Foundation. The Foundation was approved by the IRS in 2008. Ralph McGraft was the Treasurer. It was decided at that time the money from tent and stage rental would go into Club Ops Account and not the Trust Account. The income for the tent and stage rental in 2008 was around $4,000 and now it is in the $9,000 to $10,000 range. The Foundation board consists of the Club Officers (5). The Foundation year is based on the calendar year. The club year is based on October 1st to September 30th. Therefore the IRS tax forms for the Foundation are filed in May and the Club IRS tax forms are filed In February. The Total Value of the Foundation is $96,800. The Principal of the Foundation is $70.000. The Trust principal funds cannot be used, unless the Foundation Board votes to make them unrestricted funds. Next, the Club Board would vote to approve the Foundation Boards unrestricted funds action. Then the club membership upon two (2) weeks written notice would have to approve the Foundation and Club board actions. This would require a majority vote of club members present at the meeting. All assets of the Foundation are used to support the mission of the club. Originally, March 2009, the funds were invested in money market accounts and CD’s until the first amount of money was designated principal of the Foundation. Then the Board decided to invest the money in the Franklin Income Fund, Class C. The Board, to support the mission of the club, can use the dividends generated. The Foundation Board is to meet the first Monday of each quarter. New Business.
• The Coalition for Housing is requesting $1,500. I didn’t hear an explanation of what the money will be used for. The Young Children Priority One Committee will donate the funds. No Board action required.
• Granville Rec. District is asking for funds to support the Winter Sports Program. Jerry Miller chair of the Youth Services Committee suggested we not donate to this fund, since his committee has supported the spring and summer sports. No action taken by the Board.
• Club Ops Budget 2015 – 2016 -‐ Approved Administration <$1,050> Conventions <$3,500> Interclub/fellowship <$500> Dues expenses <$8,800> income $8,000 Meals expenses <$14,400> income $16,160 Membership Growth <$1,000> President’s Party <$1,000> Remembrance <$1,000> Tent & Stage expense <$2,500> income $10,000 Valentine Meeting <$50> Christmas Party <$500> Net P <L > <$140>
50/50 drawing winner – Alice Lewis – no jackpot but Alice does win a free Kiwanis dinner. 13 cards left from the deck. Trivia Robert G. Hart as a seventeen (17) year old in Lancaster OH developed the 50 star flag as an American History Class project and received a B-‐. In 1959 when the US Congress adopted the design (his was one of four of the same flag designs considered), his teacher raised the grade to A. Traditions When do Kiwanians stand at a Kiwanis meeting? When currently elected District and International Officers are introduced. This includes Lt. Gov., Governor, International President and International office holders. Do you stand when they are a past Lt. Gov., & Gov.? No, except you do stand for all past International officers. Our club stands when the speaker is introduced and at the end of the speech. This allows for rearranging chairs or if you are not able to stay for the program, you can leave without being too obvious. Out of courtesy, you could tell the speaker you will be leaving early. Doug Boldon has prepared a CD showing the photos of our club activities that he and others have taken over the years from the time he joined the club in 1982 to now. He and Jen Lewis reviewed the photographs and decided which photos to include on the CD. Possibly the photos could be displayed during the President’s Party, prior to the beginning of the meeting and/or during the mealtime. They could also be shown at our regular club meetings. I am guessing there are thousands to review. Div. 10E Club President’s minus 1 Blast Pumpkin Roll -‐ the leaves fall & others fly
