YEAR 4 - Suggested Activities for WC 01.06.20 Hi Year 4, We hope had a lovely half term in the sunshine. We have been so lucky to have such lovely weather and I hope you have all been making the most of it! Let us know what fun things you found to do over half term. Here is our work for this week – with videos and resources on seesaw to go along with them. Remember just do as much as you can manage in a week it’s much more important that you are staying happy and healthy. Things may be slightly different this week since the Year 6s may be returning to school and your teachers will be in school too. We will still be commenting on your work as much as possible as we really do love to see what you are getting up to. The video lessons will now focus on Science, Topic and Healthy Minds. We have not set any work for Monday as this is an inset day so your half term break is slightly extended. Please also note that the maths work will look a little different from what you are used to as the White Rose Scheme now requires a subscription. Please see the maths section for more information. Thank you for all your hard work so far and we hope we will see you again soon. From, The Year 4 Team. YEAR 4 - Suggested Activities for WC 01.06.20

Hi Year 4,

We hope had a lovely half term in the sunshine. We have been so lucky to have such lovely

weather and I hope you have all been making the most of it! Let us know what fun things you

found to do over half term.

Here is our work for this week – with videos and resources on seesaw to go along with them.

Remember just do as much as you can manage in a week it’s much more important that you are

staying happy and healthy.

Things may be slightly different this week since the Year 6s may be returning to school and your

teachers will be in school too. We will still be commenting on your work as much as possible as

we really do love to see what you are getting up to.

The video lessons will now focus on Science, Topic and Healthy Minds.

We have not set any work for Monday as this is an inset day so your half term break is slightly

extended.

Please also note that the maths work will look a little different from what you are used to as the

White Rose Scheme now requires a subscription. Please see the maths section for more

information.

Thank you for all your hard work so far and we hope we will see you again soon.

From,

The Year 4 Team.

This week’s video lessons:

Monday – Inset Day (no lesson)

Reading Home Learning

The most important thing you can do is READ, READ, and READ, as much as you possibly can!

Any books you read from school or home and complete please go onto Accelerated Reader and

complete a quiz (if there is one!)

Each week, we will now be setting a SPaG activity along with the reading tasks. It will be a great

opportunity to consolidate any learning that we have done over the year.

Monday: Inset Day

Tuesday: Log on to Purple Mash and read Chapter 1 of ‘Henry the Remarkable Elephant’ and

then complete the quiz.

Wednesday: SPaG: Pronouns

Thursday: Log on to Purple Mash and read Chapter 2 of ‘Henry the Remarkable Elephant’ and

SPaG

Pronouns

Pronouns are words that are used to replace a noun or noun phrase. Without pronouns, our

writing and way of speaking would be very repetitive. For example:

Steven likes to play football. It is his favourite sport.

In the second sentence, pronouns are used to avoid repeating Steven’s name and the word

football.

English Home Learning –

English lessons Week Commencing 1st June

Each session has a video to help support the learning. This will be uploaded to Seesaw every

morning.

Overview: This week we are going to be explorers, discovering new lands and writing about our

magical adventures. We will be working towards creating our own logbooks of our adventures,

either in a logbook or a documentary video. Good luck!

Please note: None of these resources attached need to be printed unless you want to. All of the

tasks can be completed on paper.

Monday No lesson due to inset day.

Tuesday Starter –can you match the words with the definitions? (See video if you want

to complete this task).

If you have a dictionary –see how quickly you can find the definitions.

Words: discovery, trek, sturdy, trudge, circumference, dense, mesmerising,

turquoise. Challenge: Can you find any synonyms (words that mean the same

thing)?

Do you know The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – the story of Peter, Susan,

Edmund, and Lucy who discover the world of Narnia through the back of a

wardrobe? Watch the video clip which can be accessed through the following

link or on the video lesson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwuqA1Ys9Zo

This week we are going to become explorers and visit our own magical settings.

Listen to the log of a journey to the jungle –on the video lesson (alternatively

read the attached document).

Complete the comprehension questions on this diary entry.

Wednesday Starter – display picture on video. Can they use sentence starters to describe the

setting? Use the sensory bank too.

Today the children are going to create their own magical jungle which they will

base their logs on.

Children to use the telescope template to design their own magical jungle. This

can be completed on paper if you don’t wish to print this off.

Challenge: Write a setting description using the sentence starters from the

starter.

Thursday Today we are going to plan our diary entry. Tomorrow you will either write your

diary log up or record a video to show your adventures. Either way, you will plan

in the same way today.

Follow the planning sheet to plan your own ideas. This will be guided, step by

step on the video.

Jungle Log: 18th April, 2020

Today has been yet another amazing day of discovery. I woke up early and got ready for my trek into

the Atlanti Jungle. I was excited and couldn’t wait to see what lay ahead of me. I packed my rucksack

and put on my sturdy walking boots. I made sure my camera was working because I wanted to record as

much of the day as possible.

With adrenalin pumping through my veins, I took a tentative step into the rickety wardrobe. Before I

knew it, the wooden floorboards beneath my feet became a thick dense forest which I trudged through.

First, I stopped every now and then to collect samples of plant life. My favourite was a thorny bush. It

had tiny, yellow flowers growing on it, which smelt like ice cream!

Next, I studied some of the mesmerising insects that were crawling up the rough bark of every tree. One

insect looked like a caterpillar but had 2 sets of wings and tiny hands on the ends of its 20 legs. Excitedly,

I photographed as many creatures as I could because I wanted to show my explorer friends what I had

discovered.

After a short tea break, I measured the circumference of the tallest trees to work out how old they

were. One measured 10 metres around and was so tall that I couldn’t see the top of it. It reminded me

of the beanstalk in a famous children’s story.

Next, I trekked to a clearing and found a beautiful plunge pool. The water was turquoise and tiny neon

fish were splashing on the surface. I tried to catch one, but they were too fast for me. Then it was time

for a rest. I lounged on pink grass, soaking up the purple sun beams and listened to the strange jungle

noises around me.

Finally, I retraced my steps back to safety of the wardrobe. I had to move quickly because the sun sets

quickly here and I was worried I might get lost. With one glance back at the magical world, I stepped on

the hard wooden floor once more and into my ordinary life. I can’t wait to see where my adventures will

take me next week!

Now let’s explore our ideas looking at conjunctions. Using the conjunctions:

and, but, because, First, Next, After that, Then, Afterwards, After a while, Finally,

When practise some of your sentences. Example: I tried to catch a fish but they

were too fast for me (more examples can be found on the video.)

Friday Starter: Practise some of your sentences using the sentence stems and

conjunctions to structure them (see video lesson).

Today you are going to create your own log.

Option 1: Create a video log to describe your adventures (see my example) OR

create your own log. In the resources there is some instructions for how to make

your own log entry.

Remember to share your amazing work on seesaw!

French

Actions (verbs)

Bonjour! This week your French activity is about actions.

If you are struggling with the pronunciation this link will take you to a pronunciation dictionary. All you

do is type the word in French, then it will appear, and you just click on the paly button to hear how the

word sounds.

https://forvo.com/languages/fr/

This is a link to a website that guides you through the topic of the home – it does have a lot of different topics so you can explore any of them.

https://www.french-games.net/frenchtopics

This is the vocabulary for the week:

Tapez des mains – clap hands

Touches le nez – touch the nose

Sautez – Jump

Croisez les bras – cross your arms

Courez – run

Prenez – take

Marchez – walk

Posez – ask

Levez la main – raise your hand

There is an activity for you to do below but if you wanted to you could create your own game such as

snap. You could write the French on one piece of paper and the English on another and play snap or a

pairs activity. If you are visual, you could draw a picture on the French card as well.

We hope you’re managing to keep active at home. For ideas, go to the school website and find ‘PE &

School Sports’ under the light blue curriculum tab. We’re adding new ideas as we find them. If you

have any great ideas of your own, please email us on [email protected], so that we can add them to the

site and share with everyone.

COMPETITION TIME

The PE Team would like you to design a poster for display in school, around the subject of great

teamwork. There are a few ideas below to help you get started, but you can include any ideas that you

may have.

It would be great to display as many posters as possible around school and there will be a prize for each

year group. Size is up to you, but lots of colour would be great. We look forward to seeing your work.

Ideas:

How does great teamwork make you feel?

What does good teamwork look like in PE?

What happens when you work as a team?
