Monday 11th May

你好 (hello) from Mr. Smyth!

I didn’t when I was your age…I was happy living in Scotland but here I am living in China. I would encourage all of you to think about seeing more of the world. The places I’ve seen in Asia are an absolute spectacle and I’m ever so grateful for the opportunity. I feel so privileged to live here immersed in such a foreign culture and at first it seemed a million miles from home, but this has become my home for now. I have travelled around some of China, volunteered at a nearby orphanage and now so many of the students at my school sing Burns songs and going around saying ‘aye’ all the time! There are too many things to mention. I have sent some pictures of what I’ve been doing here.

I’ll be back in Glasgow at the summer so who knows…I may see you around!

Hey everyone! I hope you’ve all had a fantastic year, I certainly have! Living in Guangzhou is certainly different to Glasgow, that’s for sure. It’s a beautiful city with around 15 million people living here and the buzz never stops. I’ve been hearing about some of the things you have been doing and it all sounds great but, have you considered travelling the world when you leave school?
