Exodus 18:13-16; 17 - 27 13

It came about the next day that Moses sat to judge the people, and the people

stood about Moses from the morning until the evening.14

Now when Moses’ father-

in-law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said, “What is this thing that you

are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge and all the people stand

about you from morning until evening?”

In these verses, Jethro (the father-in-law of Moses) is on the scene visiting Moses and his

visit really ends up being a divine appointment…I mean, remember, there are no acci-

dents or coincidence with God and Jethro and Moses have this God-appointed encounter

and it’s to HELP Moses out.

And what you need to know is that Jethro is an outsider. Moses is the one who has been

leading the Israelites for quite a while now…Jethro isn’t even one of them!

Page 7

HERE’S THE POINT I WANT TO MAKE: Some-

times, it takes someone from the outside looking in

to tell you how to do it! Every single one of us has a

blind spot! There is that area of our life that we

could be doing better in…but we are totally oblivious

to that fact because we can’t see it!

And so how does this apply to ME? Do you have a

Jethro in your life…a friend…who has permission to

speak truth into your life…who can tell you like it is

and you don’t get mad at them…you love them and

respect them more deeply for being honest with

you? We all need friends who will speak into us…

GET A JETHRO in your life ASAP!

And how does this apply to US? Listen, we have

some blind-spots here at BCC. There are some

things that we could do better but we don’t see it be-

cause we’ve walked past it a million times and it’s

just how it is! The church board has sought the help

of a “Jethro” if you will…someone who is on the out-

side who understands church and ministry and

reaching lost people. The church board has agreed

to work with a gentleman by the name of Chris Dav-

enport. Chris is going to come in…evaluate and look

around…and tell us some things that he believes we

need to do differently in order to grow and reach

more lost people. I for one couldn’t be more excited!

He will come in with fresh eyes, fresh perspective…

and give us some insight as to what we are doing

well and what we need to do to improve!

Sometimes, it takes someone from the outside look-

ing in to tell you how to do it!

Excited for the future!

Be watching Facebook, texts, and an-

nouncements for activities in August.

A great way to serve Christ and others

this summer is to help at

VBS July 30-Aug. 3.

See Ms. Rachael if you can be a

helper.

Weekly youth group meetings begin with kick-off to

the fall Sunday Night Youth Group on September

9th. Be watching for details-location TBA!

Campus Students for Christ @ WIU is our focused

mission this month. Here is a recent update:

“Dear Burnside CC, Campus Students for Christ is

dedicated to discipling college students at WIU and

SRC (Spoon River College) of Macomb. Each

school year brings about different stories that illus-

trate the fruit of the kingdom work happening here.

Most recently, we have been encouraged to share

about a young lady from China,

named Tong. Tong came to WIU

for a master’s degree which she

aimed to complete in one year.

Along the way to this goal, she

also encountered members of

CSC who invited her to join with

them for worship, retreats, ser-

vice projects, etc. Though Tong

was an Atheist and overwhelmed

with homework, she accepted some of these invita-

tions and found herself attending the CSC fall re-

treat. She then attended a few worship services,

and later joined a reading group to improve her

English by reading through, “Mere Christianity.” As

the year progressed, Tong became more and more

curious and reflective of what she was learning. At

the close of the school year, the family of CSC was

excited to hear Tong make her public confession of

faith and her excitement to return home to tell her

family and friends about Jesus. We also packed

her bags with several Chinese Bibles and New

Testaments to give as gifts when she returned

home. We praise God for allowing us to have such

a unique access to the globe from the cornfields of

west-central Illinois, and we know you all at BCC

celebrate with us.

In addition to this excitement we are also pleased

to introduce to you our newest

staff member, Alicia Dickerson.

Alicia joined our staff on July 1st

as our women’s minister. Alicia

had an impactful campus ministry

experience while attending East-

ern Illinois University through

their Christian Campus House,

and now she’s excited to join the

staff team at WIU. Please pray for

her and our whole staff as there is much to learn,

plan & prepare before classes begin the middle of

August.

Our future goals include: (1) Raising our general

fund income by $50,000 annually so CSC can add

a 4th full-time staff member in 2019, which is our

50th anniversary serving on the campuses of Ma-

comb, IL. (2) Finding that right person to serve
