POTE’S NOTES Greetings Nobles, It is truly my pleasure to be Elected Potentate for 2019. Lady Pam and I are excited to bring some things back to Moila that have been gone for several years. We will be announcing those as plans come together in the near fu-ture and I’m certain you will be amazed. Also in the works is a new format for the Ice Cream Social that we are excited about – we will be making a huge attempt to get the public out to join us. The Divan and I are committed to Member-

ship and will be going into this with a different approach with guidance from Imperial. We have to change the way we do business and bring people out to see our remodeled facility to hopefully join with us and enjoy Shrinedom as much as all of us. I want to thank Kraig Arthur and Scott Mahoney for again taking on the re-sponsibility for the Hospital Golf Tournament this year. They have chosen April 13th as the date to coincide with Opening Day. This has always been a great tournament to raise money for our Hospitals, either directly or thru our Transportation Fund. The Circus is right around the corner and again WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! Jim Wion has done a great job as Chairman and will be there again this year making sure things are running smooth. Brenda gets a lot of the credit for the organization and making sure the check list is fol-lowed, and Shari, for all of the phone calls to get the help we need. Last year was very refreshing to see so many new faces and some we hadn’t seen in several years helping, and digging in to make the Circus successful. You should be proud!!! We have a lot of work to do Nobles - I won’t sugar coat anything. But with YOUR help I feel we can accomplish anything. Our chance is NOW and if you can look at our offerings it’s a no brainer. Kids are our Business and that is where we start selling. My Slogan this Year is “MAKING MIRACLES COME TRUE SINCE 1922” and gives us not only an in-site as to when we began our Philanthropic Journey, but our Success in helping these Children. Your Divan is ready and we look forward to a Great Year. Yours in the Faith, Ill. Mark Young

From the Recorder Nobles, first of all I would like to thank you for the confidence you have shown in me by electing me as Recorder for 2019. This will be my fourth year as Recorder of Moila Temple. It is an honor to serve in this capacity. Again, thank you. The Recorder’s Office is always busy. The last year has been extremely so working with our partner, Great Life of KC. All that work has come to fruition as the remodeling is done, regular food and beverage hours have been estab-lished and the entire building is “open” for our use. Please remember, it is YOUR BUILDING!!!!!! Do you realize what we have???? We have a facility unmatched in all of Shrinedom. There are thousands of Nobles throughout the world who would love to have a facility like this for their enjoyment. Please take advantage of what you have. We begin the year with 1262 members. This represents a net loss of 49 for 2018. Membership continues to be a major concern and top priority for all Shrine Temples and Shriners International. It priority of every Moila Shriner. We need everyone’s help to move our membership in the right direction. We have a tremendous facility to offer and we continue to support the world’s greatest philanthropy, Shriners Hospitals for Children. Please visit the web-site beashrinernow.com . Be part of the solution!!! Make a difference in 2019. Yours in the Faith, Ill. Ken Dunlap, Recorder

NEW BEGINNINGS

Nobles and Ladies it is a new year and there are a lot of new beginnings, as there are each year, but here at Moila we have many new beginnings. We all have had to put up with the long construction period of our Tem-ple and now we can start anew with a beautiful, newly remodeled building. If you have not been to the Temple lately, please come and view all of the changes. We partnered with GreatLife Golf and I would like to build on that partnership in getting new members in our fraternity.

We also have a new Divan and we would like to bring back the brotherhood of our fraternity. Let’s get involved in our great organization and tell others what Shriners do. I have had the privilege of being your Associate Board Member to the St. Louis Hospital and I will continue that position as long as I can. It has be very reward-ing to see firsthand what our doctors and care givers do for our kids. Please remember that Shriners help Kids!!!!

We need to get our units and clubs involved and bring back the fun of being a Shriner. We will work very hard to try and make this happen, but we need you help to come together for the good of Moila and the Shrine.

LET’S MAKE MOILA GREAT AGAIN!!!! Your Chief Rabban,

Ill. Sir Dan Baker

Greetings Nobles,

I was born November 25th 1962 in Cameron Mo. to Gor-

don R. Plowman & Joetta (Murphy) Plowman and was

raised by my father and stepmother (Linda Stark Plowman)

from the age of six along with a brother Stephen and sister

Tracy. I attended 1st grade in St. Joseph Mo. 2nd grade in

for 10 years, during which time I was stationed at Tyndall

Minot, North Dakota. While at Minot I joined Star in the

West Lodge #33 AF&AM where i was initiated an Entered Apprentice on Feb 8th, passed to the degree of Fellowcraft March 7th

and was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on May 9th 1988. While there I was on the traveling degree team and trav-

eled extensively throughout the state as well as the International Peace Gardens helping to confer degrees. In June 1993 I joined

Kem Temple AAONMS of Grand Forks ND. I left ND in 1994 and moved back home to St Joseph and transferred my membership

to both Brotherhood Lodge #269 and Moila Shrine Temple . I have served the Lodge as Worshipful Master twice first in 1999-2000

and again in 2007-2008. At Moila I have served as a Potentates aid for Illustrious Sir Dave Ingersol, and Illustrious Sir Ron Wood

as well as chairman of the membership committee. I was Commander of the Moila LOH in 2018, and was appointed to be the Cap-

itan of the Guard by Illustrious Sir Mark Morgan during the same year. I am also a member of the Hospital Transporters and the St.

Joseph Valley of the Scottish Rite.

currently a Crew Supervisor with the Parks Dept.

an oncology nurse at Mosaic Hospital where she has been employed since 2000. Between us we have 4 children and 3 grandchil-

dren and one puppy.

I look forward to seeing you (and your lady) at our Shrine Center in the coming years and encourage you (and your lady) to come

Yours in the faith,

Douglas D Plowman

FROM THE TREASURER

Greetings from the new Treasurer of Moila Shrine Temple. First off, I would like to thank Ill. Sir Dave Ingersoll for all his years of service on the Divan in the several positions he has held. Secondly, I would like to thank all the Nobles for putting your trust in me and allowing me to be the Treasurer for Moila. I promise to put forth my best effort. Now it’s time to get to work. We need all the clubs and units to please get their yearly financials turned into the office ASAP. It’s very important we get this information filed for tax purposes each year, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Also we need to get signature cards from all the clubs and units so I can get authorized on their bank accounts. This process is a pain in the rear end when we switch treasurers but it is necessary. I will do my best to make this as seamless as possible. We are in a very good financial position right now due to our partnership with GreatLife. We have spent a lot of money togeth-er making this remodel and re structure of our building successful. Everything is nearly completed, and good times are ahead! As I said, we have put some money in for this remodel, a lot of which was unexpected due to some problems in our aging building. So we can’t forget about fundraising! The Circus is coming a lot faster than we think, and we will be down at the Civ-ic Arena working away before you know it. Fundraising has to be at the top of all of our “to do” lists so we can remain finan-cially strong for years to come. There are some new/old things that we are trying to work out for this summer so be on the lookout for some events that I’m sure will bring the Nobles, Ladies and the Public together at Moila for a good time.

Thanks Ill. H Mark Crawford

sonic way and working for and with the Moila Shriners for years to come.

NOTE FROM THE DIVAN

We are very fortunate to have available to us the usage of social media. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, along with other social media platforms,

allow us to communicate with each other more efficiently, thus improving opportunities for fellowship. However, these same forms of communica-tion can also be dangerous to our great fraternity. When postings con-

taining negative content are made, whether in regards to a brother noble or the fraternity in general, we are allowing that negativity to be viewed

by the general public. These types of posts can be extremely harmful to our great philanthropy. Please keep in mind who might be seeing your posts, and that the contents of social media should be governed by the

same code of conduct as is used in the Lodges of Freemasons.

Well Brothers, winter is just about here. Most of the snowbirds have flown to warmer climates, while we battle mother na-ture again.

As I assume the President’s office, I do so knowing we have some big challenges ahead of us. The biggest one is simple, that’s revenue. We simply don’t have enough. We can’t go on losing funds the way we are. There is not an easy solu-tion. We need member participation, new fundraising ideas and new members if we are to survive. How much better off we would be if everyone would come out once a month to eat a good meal. If anyone has an idea to help raise money, tell me or a board member and we’ll kick your idea around.

Right now, it looks like we will lose Turkey Days because nobody wanted to take charge and get it going. That is a $5,000 loss right there. We did make a dent with the rifle raffle, putting about $3,000 back in. But we need so much more. I believe we can at least break even.

Enough doom and gloom. I would like to thank Larry Byars for his help in the transition for me. It will be a learning pro-cess. I know with the board members’ help we can keep our heads above water.

Michelle has done a great job with her crew and will continue to do so. Let’s all remember what a great facility we have here and take advantage of it. I am looking forward to a great year. With everyone’s help, we can have it.

See you at Your Club

Ole Tymers Unit

Greetings All,

Things are pretty slow, with our Unit being Dark during the winter months.

We did have a GREAT turn out for our annual Christmas Dinner. We had 26 members & Ladies attend the din-ner @ the Benton Club. We had a good meal, Director Bob gave a review of the activities from 2018, and we had a "gag gift" drawing that was a lot of fun. Director Bob handed out his annual "Thanks a Million" awards to, Wayne Nold, for his 11 years of service as our Secretary/Treasure, Jerry Thornton, Vern Hart, & Alyce DuCoing,

for 40 years in Needles Ladies.

One of our "snow birds" Jerry Acord & Lady Nancy, had a rough trip to Arizona. Normally it takes them two days, but this trip took four days, due to them running into an ice storm on their way thru Okla. & Texas. Two of

the main highways were closed. However, they finally make it, safe & sound.

We continue to have our monthly breakfast @ LePeep's the last Monday of the month @ 9am. Had 7 mem-

bers/Ladies attend on the 31st.

The Evans & Nichols celebrated the New Year, @ the River Inn Resort in "sunny" Brownsville NE. Way too

much to eat, good music, champagne & fireworks @ midnight. Wish we had more folks join us!

Won't be long before our annual March Circus. Our Unit will be taking tickets again, this year. Our Circus Chairs, Leland Daise & Wayne Nold, will be starting on the work schedule soon. If any Unit member has a prefer-ence on what days/times they would like to work, please be ready to convey to Leland & Wayne. Be watching for

more info on this event.

A couple of our Ladies, continue to work on healing & recovery of their medical issues. Sue Long & Donna

Imlay. Please keep both, in your thoughts & prayers!

Well, as we all look forward to a New Year, we hope you all have a very Happy & Healthy New Year.

Yours in the Faith, Bob Nichols

"Proud To Be A Shriner"

The frame on the back of my license plate, on my car says: "Proud To Be A Shriner". What does that mean? It may mean one thing for me and another for someone else. I would like to share a story of mine, that defines what that means for me. On one of my transport trips to the hospital in St. Louis last year, these are some things I saw that help me define what "Proud To Be A Shriner" means to me. When I first went into the hospital, I proceeded over on the West side of the lobby/waiting area, near the food service. I sat down, amongst the chil-dren & their parents/grandparents/guardians, waiting for their appointment. It was hard to miss the feeling that we were all in a place that was nothing but, happy, positive, & good things were happening! I was impressed that when the nurses/hospital tech came to call the next patient in for their ap-pointment, they didn't just call a name or number out, they went to each patient & their family and greeted them, asked them how they were all do-ing, and then escorted them back to the exam room. All this did was gave a feeling of, "Proud To Be A Shriner". I then moved over to the East side of the lobby, were most all the drivers wait for "their" appointment to be over. I was observing the display case of all the Fezzes representing all the Tem-ples involved in bringing patients to this hospital. I got to thinking about how all these fezzes represent all the thou-sands of Shriners’ time and effort in serving this one cause. Again, this gave me a feeling of just how, "Proud To Be A Shriner'' I was. As I continued to wait, a little boy in a diaper and t-shirt, no more than three foot tall, with legs no bigger around than a silver dollar, approached the big toy box, to the left of the check-in counter. It was obvious that he was a pa-tient with many health problems. I will never forget the look in his eyes and the excitement in his face, of looking thru the toy box, for just the right thing that caught his eye. What a feeling I got, of how "Proud To Be A Shriner", I was! Well, as we arrived back to our Moila Temple, after gassing up the van, from a trip that started in the wee hours of the morning to late in afternoon, after the Temple office had already closed, I just had to think of all the things that happened during our trip, and once again, I got that wonderful feeling of just how, "Proud To Be A Shriner" I really am. Yours in the Faith, a fellow Shriner
