PRESERVATION OF BIDAYUH TRADITIONAL ACCESSORIES & COSTUMES PROGRAM
• Bidayuh formerlyknownaslanddayak arethethirdlargestethnicgroupinSarawak.InBidayuh language”Bi”meanspeopleand”Dayuh ”meansland.Hence,“Bidayuh ”meansthepeopleoflands”.
• EachBidayuh communityfromaroundKuching,Bau,PadawanandSerianhadtraditionalcostumesthatdifferslightlyfromtheother,especiallyincolour.OneofthecommonaccessoriesamongtheBidayuh communityisknownas“Pagiah”,asetofcolourfulbeadedbraceletandnecklaces.
• InordertopreservelocaltraditionsandtocatertothegrowingdemandforBidayuh traditionalcostumes,SarawakCommunityCollegeshaveconducted thisprogramforlocalBidayuhwomenandthishasledtobetteropportunitiesandfortunesforBidayuhwomentobecomeentrepreneur.
SHORT SKILLS COURSES FOR DISABLED STUDENTS
• Childrenwithdisabilitiesaregiventhesameopportunitiestoeducationasanyablebodiedstudentsandthisinitiativesisinlinewiththeemphasizeonsocietalinclusiveness.
• CommunityCollegesoffersspecialskillstrainingforstudentswithspecialneedstoempowerthemwithameanstobemoreindependentandselfsupporting.
CAKE DECORATION COURSE WITH THE RUNGUS COMMUNITY IN KUDAT, SABAH
PITAS SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROJECTKota Marudu Community College in collaboration with YayasanSejahtera conducted a project to fund local community to upgrade their business, and to assist grocery shop owners in proper accounting methods and sourcing of grocery supplies.
Through the successful implementation of this project, Kota Marudu Community College have been awarded “Best Social Entrepreneurship Project” award at the Ministry of Higher Education Entrepreneurial Awards (MEA) 2016.
SELANGOR WOMEN SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAMME
• Selangor Women Social Entrepreneurship Programme has secured contracts to supply cookies and hampers in the PETRONAS petrol stations and customized orders from several retail stores.
• Within a year of operation, they have made RM85,000 in sales of tarts and cakes.
