    Pedometer Assignment 20 points

Task: Wear a pedometer for a week (7 days) to track the number of steps you get on adaily basis.

Current daily recommendations for high school students regarding steps are 10,000. Thatis your goal. You will track the amount of steps you get in a day and log it into a

spreadsheet on Microsoft Excel. You will receive a spreadsheet to fill in your numbersfor the corresponding days. At the end of the 7 days you will compile a student report in

which you need to create a graph of your data and provide an explanation of it.The spreadsheet will look like this:

I walked a lot this week. I started of the week, on Monday, really well with

20,000 steps. I did a lot on Monday including walking to all my classes, a 2 mile run, and

basketball practice. I didnt reach 20,000 steps again throughout the week, but I was close

on Tuesday. After that I decreased in my daily steps. Friday and Saturday were the days I

got the least amount of steps, but I still managed to get 10,000 or close to it. On Friday I

went to the mall and walked around a lot, but I still didnt reach 10,000 steps. Every

weekday I walked to the classes I had that day and to any errands that were within

walking distance. I also ran a few times throughout the week including a 5.7-mile race on

Sunday. Below is a visual of what my week was in terms of my step count.

    Recommendations from the teacher:

Its evident that you do a lot of physical activity during the day. You

accomplished 10,000+ steps on 6 out of the 7 days of the week and thats fantastic. There

is never any harm in getting more though, the more the better, in this case. Looks like

toward the end of the week, Wednesday-Sunday, you struggled to get more and so here

are some recommendations to increase your step count on those days. When you drive to

places and different locations park farther away. For example, that day you went to the

mall maybe parking a few spots away from the building would have gotten you closer to

    the goal of 10,000 steps.

    Results:

I noticed that Wednesday I didnt hit the goal of 10,000 steps a day. That was the

only day that I did not achieve the goal. Wednesdays are my busiest days of class so I

think that may have had something to do with it. I dont walk a lot on Wednesdays

because I just hang out at the library until my next class starts. I also noticed that Tuesday

I had the most steps. I only have one class on Tuesdays so I think that might be why I

have the most steps. I have time to do a lot of different things on Tuesdays such as run,

go grocery shopping, go clothing shopping, go on a walk, etc. The weekends had close to

the same amount of steps. I usually do the same thing every weekend which is go on a

run and then hang out with my friends.

    Recommendations from the teacher:

On days some days instead of instead of going to the library and just sitting, as

you might do could go on a walk around campus, depending on the weather. You could

also take a longer route to get to class to take up more time and to get in more steps. In

general, to make sure you hit the 10,000 steps a day goal, you could do a couple other

things. You could park farther away from the store; you could walk every day to class,

and walk your dogs when you go home instead of just letting them out in the yard.
