Choosing a User Account Mode
• Domain account mode– users with existing Microsoft Windows domain accounts
• Active Directory account creation mode– ISP to create unique accounts for customers in Active
Directory service.
• Cannot mix modes• Is a one-time-only choice.• Cannot change user account modes after creating
the configuration database. In Active Directory account creation mode, there
are certain administration tasks that are unavailable in the HTML Administration pages.

Choosing a Database Type
• Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3• Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (Windows)
(WMSDE), Service Pack 3• By default, WSS installs WMSDE during setup.• Using WMSDE may be more secure than using
SQL Server, because WMSDE cannot be connected to remotely.
• WMSDE is only light usage, a single server• Later, can migrate your data to a SQL Server
database.

Choosing an Authentication Type for SQL Server
• Windows authentication– More secure– Depends on the domain credentials– The username and password are not sent between
servers– Are abstracted through the IIS application pool
• SQL Server authentication– Less secure– The username and password for the database
administrator account are sent– In unencrypted format

Verifying that FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions are not Running on Port 80
• By default installing, verify that FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions are not installed and running on the virtual server on port 80 before you install.
• By default, upgraded from Windows 2000 to Windows Server 2003, FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions were installed to port 80

A quiet (or unattended) installation
• Without any user intervention.• Is never prompted to supply information and
never sees any message.• Can perform a quiet installation from the
command line.• Any output from the Setupsts.exe program is
stored in the log file in the Temp directory of the Microsoft Windows volume.
• To perform, use Setupsts.exe command with the /q command-line option.

Introduction
• The process of applying WSS to a virtual server is called extending.
• To extend a new virtual server, must perform the following steps:1. Create the virtual server in IIS.2. If necessary connect to the configuration database for
the server farm.3. Extend the virtual server using HTML Administration
pages or the command line.
• To complete this procedure, must be logged on as a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or SharePoint administrators group.

How does Extending a Virtual Server Interact with the Database ?
• Configuration database– Maintains connections between servers and content
databases– Stores server settings– Identifies which content is to be provided by which
virtual servers.– Is one configuration database per stand-alone server or
per server farm.
• Content database– Store data from the sites :
• Site management data – user names and permissions• Content – list data and documents
