The CPU (central processing unit) is the part of a computer controls the interpretation and execution of in-

structions.

Definition of CPU

Intel® Pentium® Processor E6300 (2M Cache, 2.80

GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)

CPU stands for Central Processing Unit. Its job is to process the instructions contained within com-

puter programs.

What Does CPU Stand for

Feature :CPU chips are generally very small and very

thin

Type:The primary

manufacturers of CPUs for personal

computers are Intel and Advanced

Micro Devices (AMD).

Function :A microprocessor chip is a small piece of silicon containing thousands

In a personal computer, a hard disk drive (HDD) is the mechanism.

controls the positioning, reading, and writing of the hard disk

There are 2 types of hard disk.

Definition of Hard disk

HDD : Samsung 320GB SATA2 7200RPM 16M

Hard disk driveA hard drive is made up of 2

to 5 magnetic disks, each measuring at around 2.5 inches in diameter. It also

has a motor, spindles, heads, controllers and an

actuator. All the components are encased in metal.

This hard drive is located in computer, so we can’t bring to

outside, but it is safe.

One of the advantages is

that this type of hard drive

contains many GB, such as 1 TB.

Portable Hard DiskA hard drive is made up of 2 to 5 magnetic disks, each measuring at around 2.5 inches in diameter.

It also has a motor, spindles, heads, controllers and an

actuator. All the components are encased in metal.

There are many types of portable hard disks, which

are 120GB, 160GB, 320 GB, 500 GB, and etc.

Portable Hard Disk’s advantages are that we can carry it easily, and it

contains lots of GB. However, they are easy to

broken.

Input devices

An input device is anything that puts information

inside a computer

Page 9: Module 1: Concepts of information Technology

Output device

An output device takes

information form a computer

and we can see it.

Types of memory

RAMRAM or Random Access Memory is volatile memory that is erased when the power goes off. Program instructions and data held in RAM can be accessed and saved much more quickly than that held in permanent storage.
