WID Architecture

Module 1Workforce Information Database Review

Implementation Options

• Data warehouse for LMI research shops

• Storage container for information delivery systems

• A combination of both

Module 1Workforce Information Database Review

Module 1ALMIS Database Review

Implications of Alternative Implementations

• Flexibility (display, storage, analysis)

• Maintenance (ease, speed, cost)

• Operational Speed

Module 1Workforce Information Database Review

• SQL Server (48%)

• Oracle (28%)

• Other Relational Databases (24%):

• MS Access• MS Visual FoxPro

Module 1ALMIS Database Review

What relational database software is being used to house the WID?

Module 1Workforce Information Database Review

Module 1ALMIS Database Review

How can the information in the WID be accessed/ extracted/queried?

• Directly through the relational database software housing the WID

• ODBC using another relational database software

• Through Custom Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) (Client/Server Application)

• Internet

How is the Workforce Information Database

currently being used by

customers?

Module 1Workforce Information Database Review

Module 1ALMIS Database Review

Who are they [customers]?

What do they want?

How do they want it?

Module 1ALMIS Database Review

LMI Applications currently employing the Workforce Information

Database Structure

• ACINet (America’s Career InfoNet)

• Vendor-Provided Systems

• State LMI customized applications

Module 1Workforce Information Database Review

Module 1ALMIS Database Review

Relationship Between the WID and Applications

• The WID is a generic data container that can feed a variety of applications for different customers and purposes.

• The WID is NOT SYNONYMOUS with the applications that it feeds.

Module 1Workforce Information Database Review

Module 1ALMIS Database Review

Relationship Between the WID and Applications

(cont.)

• Different applications produced by the same or different vendors can access the same WID.

• Applications may require “optional or additional” tables.
