DESCRIPTIONThese cylindrical agent storage containers, which are lessthan ten inches high and contain from 20 to 30 pounds ofFM-200, are ideal for height-limited locations such as un-der-floor applications. They are equipped with a pressuregauge, a burst disc type discharge valve, a replaceable ini-tiator will assembly a screen assembly, cable assembly,mounting brackets and safety plug. Each ASC has a boss-mounted check valve which accepts and optional Pressureswitch (see Fenwal Data Sheet 93.3119.0) and is used forrecharging the container

Initiator assemblies must be ordered for each container. SeeFenwal data Sheet 93.1932.0 for information.

Total pressure in a filled container is adjusted to 360 psi at70oF by superpressurizing with dry nitrogen.

Nozzles and piping selected shall ensure a minimum dis-charge rate of 84 lbs. FM-200 agent per second at the mini-mum operating temperature. Operating temperature shallbe limited to 32o to 130oF. Nozzles and piping must be inaccordance with Fenwal FM-200 Design Manual.

OPERATIONThe container is discharged when its initiator is actuated torupture the burst disc valve.

INSTALLATIONThe container must be securely mounted in position with thevalve down using the integral mounting brackets. The cen-ter of four slots are located at the corners of a rectangle 8-1/2 in. wide by 11-11/16 in. long. Use four 5/16 in. bolts orstuds to secure the container to a solid surface.

The 93-120251-001 unit has mounting brackets on the bot-tom as shown at right and the 93-120253-001 unit has themounting brackets on top. The 93-120351-001 and 93-120353-001 units have mounting brackets on the dies. Allunits must be mounted with the valve at the bottom: eitherparallel to the floor or facing down. If not mounted in thismanner, proper discharge will not be possible.

After the container is secured in place, remove the safetyplug and screw the screen assembly into the valve body.Then connect the rest of the piping and nozzle specified inthe system drawing. Retain the safety plug for use whenreconditioning the container or whenever a filled containeris moved.

MAINTENANCEThe following inspection and/or maintenance proceduresshould be scheduled or performed upon the occurrence ofany even which might bias the reliability of the system.

A. QUARTERLY INSPECTION

1. Check the pressure gauge. If the pressure is less than325 psig at 70oF (22.9 Kg/cm2 at 21oC) the containermust be removed by qualified personnel, inspected care-fully then recharge or replaced as required. Pressurewill vary with temperature. In the range of 55 to 85oF(12.8 to 29.4oC), this change is approximately 3 psi perdegree F (0.397 Kg/cm2 per degree C).

2. Check all components supporting hardware and tighten,repair or replace as required.

3. Visually check all components for evidence of physicalabuse and take whatever action is indicated. Replaceany component if at all in doubt of its ability to performproperly.

B. SEMI-ANNUL INSPECTION

Qualified personnel are to remove and weight all agent stor-age containers. Losses in net weight of agent must not ex-ceed 5% or 10% under pressure loss adjusted fortemperature. Container, and agent weight are marked onthe mounting bracket.

All outlet piping must be clean and free of dirt, chips, filingsand other foreign material that my become hazardous pro-jectiles or cause the system to become inoperative or inef-fective at the time of discharge.

NOTE: The safety plug shipped with the container must beretained and secured to the container whenever thepiping is removed from a charged container.Charged containers must have safety plug in-stalled when removed from system for shipment.

The burst disc valve assembly shall be an integral part ofthe agent storage container and shall be operated by apply-ing electrical current to an initiator assembly which has anelectro-explosive device that provides on demand, and in-stantaneous full bore release and discharge of the agent.Valves with moving parts and seals are not acceptable.

Filled containers shall be super-pressurized with dry nitro-gen to 360 psig at 70oF to aid in rapid agent distribution,particularly at lower temperatures. It shall automatically re-lieve between 850 to 1000 psi in even of excessive pressurebuild up.

Devices and connecting leads shall be completely super-vised.

The container design shall permit on-site reconditions andrefilling.

The integral mounting assembly shall provide a means formounting to a solid vertical or horizontal surface and shallwithstand a thrust of 1000 lbs. for 5 seconds in any direc-tion.

INSTALLATIONThe container must be rigidly mounted in position with thevalve facing down. Fenwal mounting brackets provide a se-cure means for wall mounting containers. A lifting ring onthe container provides a means for raising the container toits mounting location.After the container is secured in place, remove the safetyplug and connect the rest of the piping and nozzles(s) speci-fied in the system drawing. Retain the safety plug for usewhen reconditioning the container and whenever a filled con-tainer is moved.

MAINTENANCEInspection and/or maintenance procedures should be sched-uled as listed below, or performed when an event occurswhich might affect the reliability of the system.

A. QUARTERLY INSPECTION1. Check the pressure gauges of each agent storage con-

tainer. If the pressure is less than 325 psig at 70oF (22.9Kg/cm2 at 21oC), the container should be removed andcarefully inspected by qualified personnel. It should thenbe reconditioned, recharged or replaced depending uponits condition. Pressure varies with temperature, and inthe range of 55oF to 85oF (12.7oC-29.4oC) this change isapproximately 3pse/oF (.38 Kg/cm2/oC)

2. Check all component supporting hardware and tighten orrepair as required.

3, Visually check all components for physical abuse andtake whatever action is necessary. Replace the compo-nent if at all in doubt as to its ability to perform properly.

B. SEMI-ANNUAL INSPECTIONQualified personnel are to remove and weigh all agent stor-age containers. Losses of agent must not exceed 5% in netweight, or 10% reduction of pressure (adjusted for tempera-ture). Container and agent weight are marked on thecontainer�s nameplate.All outlet piping must be clean and free of dirt, chips, fillingsand other foreign material that may become hazardous pro-jectiles or cause the system to become inoperative or inef-fective at the time of the discharge.NOTE: The safety lug shipped with this container should be

retained and secured to the container whenever thepiping is removed from a charge container. Chargedcontainers must have the safety plug installedwhen removed from the system for shipment.Observe proper handling procedures when in-stalling or removing the initiator.

DESCRIPTIONThis FM-200 spherical agent storage container is less than10 inches in height to fit under most raised floors and con-tains from 10 to 15 pounds of FM-200 superpressurized to360 psig with dry nitrogen.

Each assembly is equipped with pressure gauge, burst disctype discharge valve, replaceable initiator well, safety plug,screen assembly, cable assembly and mounting brackets.Each ASC has a boss-mounted check valve which acceptsand optional Pressure Switch (see Fenwal Data Sheet93.3119.0) and is used for recharging the container.

OPERATIONThe container much be securely mounted to a rigid surfacewith the valve horizontal/parallel to floor or down. Four holesin the mounting brackets are drilled to accept 5/16 inchmounting bolts. The centers of the mounting holes are lo-cated at the corners of a rectangle 6.38 inches wide by 8.38inches long.

MAINTENANCEThe following inspection and/or maintenance proceduresmuch be scheduled as listed below or performed upon oc-currence of any event which might affect the reliability of asystem.

DESCRIPTIONFenwal FM-200 Bottom Discharge Agent Storage Contain-ers store FM-200 super-pressurized with dry nitrogen to 360psig (70oF). They are painted red and are equipped with a 3-inch burst disc type discharge valve, a replaceable initiatorwell, a screen assembly, pressure gauge, supervisory pres-sure switch with cable assembly, fill port, overpressure reliefvalve, safety cap, liquid level measuring device (optional)and lifting lugs. A 3-inch Flex Hose (P/N 29-117134-002) isavailable to facilitate piping connections. Initiator assembliesP/N 93-191001-001 must be ordered for each container.

OPERATIONThe agent storage container discharges when the initiator isactuated, causing the burst-disc valve to rupture.

INSTALLATIONThe container is installed in a vertical position with the valveassembly pointing up. Interconnection for discharge pipingis 3-inch NPT. A 3-inch flex hose is available to facilitateconnection between the container and discharge piping. A3-inch, 300-lb. malleable-iron threaded pipe union manufac-tured per ANSI B16.39 is required to mate the tank dischargeport to the flex-hose assembly.The container is secured in place by two mounting brackets(P/N 29-232334-00X) which are bolted together around thecontainer and affixed to a solid wall or a strut assembly. Two1/2-inch diameter bolts are required to secure the mountingbrackets to a vertical surface and two 1/2-inch diameter 9-inch long threaded rods are needed to hold the two mount-ing brackets together.After the container is securely mounted, it is connected todischarge piping per the system drawings. The initiator as-sembly is then installed.

MAINTENANCEAccording to NFPA standards the following inspection and/or maintenance procedure must be scheduled as listed be-low and performed upon the occurrence of any event whichmight affect the reliability of the system.

SEMI-ANNUAL INSPECTIONQualified personnel are to determine the amount of agent inall containers. The optional liquid level indicator may be usedto measure agent supply and compare it to the original netweight which is marked on the container label. If the mea-sured net weight is less than 95% of the original charged netweight the container should be tested for leakage, rechargedand reinstalled.Inspect all piping, fittings and nozzles for looseness, dirt orother damage. All outlet piping must be clean and free ofdirt, chips, fillings and other foreign material that may causethe system to become inoperative or ineffective at the timeof discharge.

RECONDITIONINGAfter a system has been discharged, it is recommended thatthe local authorized Fenwal distributor be contacted to re-condition the system.The reconditioning kit for these containers is P/N 31-193017-001. The initiator, not included, is ordered separately.

Listed and FMRC Approved.Each agent storage container shall have a fill range of 150-350, 240-560, or 370-850 lbs. and be of a construction thatcomplies with DOT-4BW500.The agent storage container shall incorporate lifting lugs, over-pressure relief, 3-inch burst-disk type discharge valve, fill port,cable assembly, pressure gauge, supervisory pressure switch,liquid-level indicator (optional), and a safety cap. Electricaldevice�s connecting leads shall be completely supervised.

A compatible flex hose shall be available to facilitate instal-lation and connection to discharge piping.The container shall be secured in place by two opposingsteel mounting brackets. These brackets shall be FenwalP/N 29-232334-00X.

DESCRIPTIONInitiator assemblies are used in Fenwal Fire SuppressionSystem to rupture the burst disc valve in Fenwal agent stor-age containers.

WARNING!

The initiator is a Class “C” explosive. It must behandle and stored in accordance withappropriate local regulations governing Class“C” explosives. The local Fire Marshall should

Never handle, transport, store, or install theinitiator assembly unless the shorting capsupplied with the assembly is properly securedto its threaded end. Safety glasses or a faceshield must be worn when handling thesedevices. Improper handling, misuse or abuse ofthis device can cause bodily injury.

OPERATIONThe initiator assembly is activated by an electrical current of2.0 amps. The assembly is destroyed by its operation andmust be replaced whenever a system is actuated.

INSTALLATIONThe initiator assembly is inserted into a well in the agentstorage container. Consult Fenwal Publication 93-FM200M-004 and/or 93-FM200M-003 for details on the proper instal-lation and testing procedures for this device.

MAINTENANCEThe initiator assembly should be stored in an area main-tained at 70-75oF (21-24oC). The storage area must be dryand secure from unauthorized access to these units. Thecombined shelf life and service life of an initiator assemblyshall not exceed seven (7) years. The service life varies withthe maximum temperature to which it is exposed for an ap-preciable length of time. See Table 1.

At the end of it’s service life or seven years, whichever oc-curs first, in initiator assembly must be removed and de-stroyed in accordance with local regulations.

DESCRIPTIONThese nozzles are used in Fenwal FM-200 Fire Suppres-sion Systems to disperse FM-200 uniformly throughout thehazard area. Patterns direct discharged FM-200 parallel tothe ceiling. Nozzles are available to discharge in either 180o

or 360o patterns, depending on location within the hazardarea. A selection of orifices is available for each nozzle sizeto provide correct sizing for appropriate agent distribution.

Nozzles are constructed of brass, nozzle sizes are 1/2, 3/4,1/ 1-1/4, 1-1/2 and 2 inch NPT. See Ordering Information forsizes and part numbers.

DESIGN/INSTALLATIONThe nozzles are equipped with female National Pipe Threadsand provide and equal distribution of agent throughout theprotected area. Nozzles should be mounted in a downwardvertical position only. The Placement of the nozzles for ad-equate coverage to all portions of the hazard area is deter-mined by considering the indicated throw of each nozzle.When using large nozzles in an area where smaller nozzleshave a sufficient throw, care should be used to avoid anyunnecessary and unwanted turbulence.

ARCHITECT/ENGINEER SPECIFICATIONThis FM-200 Fire Suppression System shall use dischargenozzles that distributed the FM-200 uniformly throughout theprotected area. The nozzle shall be Fenwal P/N 93-1940XX-XXX.

DESCRIPTIONThis pressure switch assembly mounts directly to a checkvalve on Fenwal spherical FM-200® agent storage contain-ers to trigger a TROUBLE condition when container pres-sure drops below 200 psig ±15 psi. Assemblies are availablewith normally open or normally closed contacts, and withstandard or explosion resistant cable assemblies.

OPERATIONNormally Open - The pressure switch contacts are closedwhen the container is pressurized in accordance with speci-fications. The contacts open when pressure drops below 200psig.Normally Closed - The pressure switch contacts are openwhen the container is pressurized in accordance with speci-fications. The contacts close when pressure drops below200 psig.

CAUTION!

Pressure in a normally filled container will dropbelow 200 psig at or below a temperature of+10oF (-12oC). Accordingly, this modification isnot recommended for low temperatureapplications.

INSTALLATIONTo install the pressure switch assembly, first unscrew theguard around the unused boss on the container and removethe safety plug from the check valve. Secure the check valvehex with a wrench to guard against loosening the check valve.Screw the pressure switch into the check valve 3 turns be-yond hand tight and then attach the cable assembly by screw-ing the housing over the threaded boss. Connect the cableassembly to the control unit in accordance with the systemschematic.

CAUTION!

Use wrench on check valve to avoid overtightening and when loosening components forremoval.
