MBI’s Annual Convention & Trade Show is the industry’s premiere event, hosting 500 attendees and exhibitors at prestigious resorts while providing top-notch educational sessions, new products, the latest trends in modular construction, and the opportunity to meet with industry leaders. If you want to increase your share of federal government dollars, this is a must-attend event. Key procurement movers and shakers offer the how-to’s of securing federal construction projects—from homeland security to military command to disaster relief. Featured speakers have included former Federal Emergency Management Agency director James Lee Witt; General Richard Myers, fifteenth chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff; and Brigadier General Bo Temple, military programs director for the Army Corps of Engineers. Get the most up-to-date information about green building initiatives, incentives, design requirements, and construction techniques at this annual event. Green building and industry experts offer everything from why green is the “right thing to do” to effectively marketing sustainable buildings. ESSENTIALS OF COMMERCIAL MODULAR CONSTRUCTION

MBI’s popular “Modular 101” conference is an annual event providing basic training on the commercial modular construction process, start to finish, from qualifying customers to building finishout. In addition to meeting face-to-face with over a dozen industry experts, attendees take away a printed resource manual including sales tips, details and illustrations on the many phases of modular construction, as well as a glossary of industry terms. AIA CONTINUING EDUCATION HOURS

MBI is a registered provider with the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education Systems and offers free seminars on commercial modular construction to AIA members, introducing design professionals to modular buildings. Participants earn learning units in AIA’s Health, Safety, and Welfare in Architecture sections. OSHA APPROVED SAFETY TRAINING

Help protect company employees and raise safety awareness with the “OSHA 10-Hour Construction Outreach Training, Commercial Modular Construction Edition (for Dealers).” These industry training materials have been developed by the US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety & Health Administration and MBI for delivery by any OSHA-certified instructor. Scheduling assistance is available through MBI.

MBI EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

The MBI Educational Foundation is the only organization established specifically to provide educational opportunities in the form of training and scholarships to individuals with an interest in commercial modular construction. Two scholarships are available annually. One is for an MBI member employee or employee spouse, child, or grandchild, regardless of company type. The other is for the winner of the student portion of the Awards of Distinction contest in which a student enters a design for a “green” portable classroom.

MBI SealsAs a symbol of commitment from MBI members, the MBI seal proudly displays the Modular Building Institute logo, as well as MBI’s toll-free telephone number and web site address. Direct access to the Modular Building Institute–a clearinghouse for customer praise, questions, and even complaints–provides your customers with an added assurance that they are getting a product from a member of the MBI.

One voice standing alone carries little clout, but many voices speaking in unison will be heard. MBI stays in constant contact with countless code, legislative and regulatory agencies, speaking on behalf of our members.

PROTECT YOUR INTERESTS

MBI has the network to make all industry participants aware of issues impacting your business, and more importantly, can organize members to act upon issues before they become law. Every member, no matter how large or small, has a voice with MBI. The burden of protecting the interests of an entire industry should not and cannot be shouldered by one or even many of the largest participants in the industry. It is a responsibility of all companies engaged in the industry. MBI provides structure to ensure equal input on matters of importance and the ability to equitably tap necessary resources when addressing issues.

INTERACT DIRECTLY WITH CODE OFFICIALS

Through our popular code compliance conference calls, MBI members have access to top code officials and get answers to frequently asked questions. Code officials provide answers to our members’ questions, which are then posted to our advocacy page.

I believe the success of our industry and our own business will be closely tied to the success of the MBI Seals program. These funds are critical to help fight government interference and to help promote the industry that provides our livelihoods.

Modular.org provides valuable industry resources. The site is constantly updated with upcoming MBI events, searchable membership directory and industry news. It currently receives about 10,000 visits per month.

MBI MODULAR ADVANTAGE

Modular Advantage is MBI’s quarterly e-magazine that includes features stories, industry data, case studies, and other industry resources.

INDUSTRY ANALYSIS

MBI’s annual industry survey has proven itself to be an invaluable publication and tool for market trend analysis by members as well as banks, students, research houses, and others. The report offers a statistical year-in-review and makes projections on future industry progress and development. In 2006, MBI joined efforts with the research and investment firm of Robert W. Baird to compile joint data analyses for inclusion in the report.

MBI MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY

The MBI membership directory is a current and free resource to members and potential customers alike. The directory is a comprehensive list of every MBI member manufacturer and dealer, as well as suppliers of materials, services, and financing. This directory enables members to contact colleagues around the world to share skills and expertise.

MBI ELINK

MBI members receive eLink, a weekly electronic newsletter covering timely industry and association news and information. Hot topics include advocacy issues, regional council events, and educational and training programs, to name a few. To receive eLink, your email address must be registered with MBI headquarters.

MEMBER CONNECTION NEWSLETTER

The quarterly “Member Connection” Newsletter is published by MBI to provide timely and newsworthy items about the commercial modular building industry. Coverage includes association news, legislative items of interest to our members, quarterly industry financial outlooks, calendar of events and other information related to the MBI and/or the modular industry.

Awards & RecognitionAWARDS OF DISTINCTION

The MBI Awards of Distinction contest is the commercial modular industry’s premier awards program, offering competition for first place, honorable mention, and best of show awards in over 30 building categories. Entries are temporary, permanent, and renovated modular buildings as well as industry marketing pieces. Building entries are judged on areas of architectural excellence, technical innovation, efficiency and length of project. GREEN BUILDING DESIGN COMPETITION

Part of the Awards of Distinction contest, a new green building design category gives both MBI members and college and university students the opportunity for world-class recognition. For students, winning also means receiving a scholarship towards higher education. Currently, entries must be portable classrooms, may be actual or conceptual buildings, and should show considerable improvement over typical portable classrooms in certain contest-defined “green” areas. OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

MBI’s Outstanding Achievement Award is given each year to one individual in honor of his or her exemplary contribution and service to the commercial modular buildings industry, and in particular to MBI. As a colleague-conferred award of gratitude and appreciation, it is one of the industry’s most prestigious honors. HALL OF FAME

By establishing a Hall of Fame, MBI recognizes the contributions of those whose careers are or were dedicated to our industry or whose acts have had a significant impact on the careers of all others involved. Induction into the Hall of Fame is the highest award MBI bestows upon a member. Length of service, citizenship, business success, and role as a pioneer or innovator are considered before being inducted. VOLUNTEER-OF-THE-YEAR AWARD

Annually, the MBI executive director selects at his discretion an individual to receive the Volunteer-of-the-Year award. This award recognizes the contributions of a member who significantly gives of his own time and effort toward the advancement of MBI.

Q ONCE MY APPLICATION IS RECEIVED BY MBI, HOW LONG

BEFORE I CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF BENEFITS?

Immediately! When your application is received, your contact information is entered into our database, giving you same-day access to member benefits. Formal approval, followed by an acceptance letter and certificate, comes at the next scheduled meeting of the MBI Board of Directors.

Q ARE MBI MEMBERSHIPS CORPORATE OR INDIVIDUAL?

Corporate. MBI members are companies, not individuals. Each member company indicates on its membership application or renewal a person to be its representative in MBI. When appropriate, each member company is entitled to one vote on association matters.

Q CAN I LIST MULTIPLE BRANCHES IN ADDITION TO MY MAIN

LOCATION AT NO EXTRA CHARGE?

Yes! In addition to your main office, you can include as few or as many of your branch locations in our database as you want. Listing all of your branches has its advantages. The State of Business lists we generate, for example, will include your company only after you have notified us of the areas you serve. Lists like these are used by MBI Headquarters to refer customers to member companies.

Q IF I LEAVE MY COMPANY, DOES MY MEMBERSHIP “TRAVEL”

WITH ME?

No. Since memberships are corporate, they do not follow an individual from company to company. They stay with the company that joined. Also, memberships can not be transferred from one company to another. To remain involved with MBI as a member, your new employer will need to join.

Q HOW DO I UPDATE MY MEMBER RECORD(S)?

The easiest and most efficient way to update your record(s) with changes to your contact and other information is to log on at modular.org using your username and password. An “update account” icon will appear and you can make any necessary changes. Or, simply contact MBI Headquarters by phone (888-811-3288) or email (info@modular.org).
