2. Description and connections

2.1. Introduction The MODIG AIR is a high quality DVB-T indoor modulator which receives one HDMI input and converts it into one RF DVB-T channel on its output. The excellent picture (Full HD 1920*1080-30p) and modulation quality (MER~35dB) renders the MODIG AIR an ideal solution for distributing SD/HD digital signals received from any device with an HDMI output (e.g. a DVD player, STB or camera in a CATV network using the DVB-T technology). The user has the ability to control the device remotely using a Bluetooth interface by downloading and using the “Fte Pro Air” application from Google Play or App store for free. Finally, the MODIG AIR’s small size and metal case provides excellent electromagnetic shielding as well as great temperature dissipation and rigidness.

2.2. Installation example In the example, the MODIG AIR is shown receiving the signal from the satellite receiver Fte eXtreme HD Flex Plus and modulating it in a terrestrial RF output channel. The DVB-T output channel is mixed with the other channels of the installation, in this case by a TER 2 splitter / mixer. The MODIG AIR programming is done through a mobile phone via Bluetooth with the free application Fte Pro Air.

3. Setup

3.1. First installation The MODIG AIR can be programmed easily using the following 4 simple steps:

1. Download the “Fte Pro Air” app from Google play or App Store.

2. Power up the MODIG AIR, connecting the external power supply. The MODIG AIR will need 20-30secs to boot and the status indicator will blink until the procedure is finished. After the status indicator remains constantly green, you will be able to connect to the MODIG AIR.

3. Run the “Fte Pro Air” App. It will scan for any available

devices that are within range. On the top of the list you will see always the closest device to your phone or tablet. Choose the device that you want to connect with and press “Connect” and the status indicator will turn red. While connected to your phone/tablet, the device will not show up on any other phone/tablet in the vicinity.

4. Pressing the 3 points on the upper right side of the screen, you will be able to access to a new window that allows to select the language of the application and sort the device on the list by the Bluetooth signal power.

5. To connect to the device you will need to enter the default pin: 1234

4. Programming the MODIG AIR The programming of the device is through the “Fte Pro Air” App. When the “Fte Pro Air” app will be initialized, and once is connected to a modulator, the status indicator will turn red and the main screen will be displayed. App guidelines:

Tapping on the "left arrow" icon on the top-left corner returns to previous menu. Tapping on this icon while on the main menu causes the app to disconnect from MODIG AIR and return to scanning for nearby devices. The icon is not available while the app applies settings to the MODIG AIR. While connected to a MODIG AIR, the app shows a colored "signal" indicator on the top-right corner of the screen. This indicator shows the status of the Bluetooth connection through a color:

• Green: It is good or optimal.. • Yellow: It is regular. • Red: It is low. • Flashing red: It is too low and is about to get lost.

By tapping on the indicator, a new window will appear on screen showing a bluetooth power graphic. By tapping on the “Disconnect” button, the app immediately disconnects from the currently connected MODIG AIR and goes back to scanning for nearby devices. In this window the “Apply button time” can also be set (allows configuring the delay after applying settings. It can be set from 1 to 5 seconds) The “singnal” indicator is not tappable while the app applies settings to the MODIG AIR.

Important note:The first time you connect a mobile phone or a tablet with a MODIG AIR it is recommended that before proceeding with the configuration make a calibration of this Bluetooth signal indicator. To do this, follow the following steps:

Step 1. Position your mobile phone or tablet at a distance between 0.5m and 1m from the modulator. Step 2. Select the "INFO" option from the main menu. At the bottom of the "System Info" screen, there are 3

boxes with Bluetooth power values expressed in dBm. Step 3. Calibrate the point of maximum power of bluetooth signal: without moving your position, wait until the

value in the box "?" is the highest value or the closest to the value indicated in the box "max". Step 4. Calibrate the point of minimum power of bluetooth signal: slowly move your mobile phone or tablet away

from the MODIG AIR until the value indicated in the "min" box reach the minimum value, before losing the connection. Approximately this value should be less than -90dBm.

Step 5. Return to the main menu by pressing the icon at the top left of the screen.

Maximum power (step 3) Minimum power (step 4) These steps should only be repeated in these cases:

• If you uninstall and reinstall the Fte Pro Air application on the same mobile or tablet. • When using the application on a different mobile phone or tablet.

4.1. Main menu The main menu consists of the following options:

• Quick Settings • Custom profiles • DVB-T • Output attenuator • Encoder • Transport Stream • Other settings • Info • Help

4.1.1. Quick Settings This menu provides the ability to program several modulators easily and quickly. All you need is to enter the following parameters:

• The output RF channel: click and select the output channel from CH21 to CH69 • Set the output level by adjusting the modulator’s attenuator: click and choose the

attenuation value between 0dB / -10dB / -20 dB • Set the Profile No.: click and select one profile number from 1 to 99

How the profile works In an installation all the modulators (or Mux in general) need to have different values of the following fields to avoid conflict in the automated scan of the TV sets:

• Program Name • Service ID • TS ID

For that reason, the user must always select a unique Profile number in every modulator starting from Number #1. E.g. If we want to install three modulators in a CATV network, in the profile option we will select:

• Profile Νο 1 for the 1st modulator o meaning: Program Name = DTV 1 o meaning: Service ID = 1 o meaning: TS ID = 2210

User’s manual · MODIG AIR

Reserved for technical modifications and/or errors - 9 - MODIG AIR Version en_1.1 FTE maximal

• Profile Νο 2 for the 2nd modulator

o meaning: Program Name = DTV 2 o meaning: Service ID = 2 o meaning: TS ID = 2211

• Profile Νο 3 for the 3rd modulator o meaning: Program Name = DTV 3 o meaning: Service ID = 3 o meaning: TS ID = 2212

As a result, all the above modulators have different values in the above fields. Once the parameters are selected, press the “APPLY” button to set them to the MODIG AIR. One countdown will appear on the screen while the settings are applying to the modulator.

4.1.2. Custom Profiles The “Fte Pro Air” app provides the ability to create custom profiles under your custom name. To apply an existing custom profile to the connected MODIG AIR, simply tap on the name of the desired custom profile. How to create the profile:

Step 1. Click the “+” icon. Step 2. A new window will appear. Write the name of the profile and click the “Save” button. If you want to cancel the

action, press the “Cancel” button to return back. Step 3. Once the button “Save” is pressed, the MODIG AIR settings will be stored in the custom profile. The

configuration save progress is displayed on the screen. Step 4. When the custom profile is created has been created, it will appear in the list.

Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Custom profile actions:

To manage (view, clone, rename, or delete) a custom profile, tap on the three vertical dots “ ” at the far right of the desired custom profile:

• View: a window appears on the screen showing the custom profile parameters. • Clone: click if you want to clone the custom profile to another one. Write the name

of the new cloned profile and press the “Clone” button. If you want to cancel the action, press the “Cancel” button.

• Rename: enter the new name of profile and press “Rename” button. If you want to cancel the action, press the “Cancel” button.

• Delete: press this button to delete the custom profile. A new window will appear in order to confirm or cancel the deleting action.
