MODEL IX -WAC/HP AIR CONDITIONERS & HEAT PUMPSUnit Application
Bebco Model IX-WAC/HP Industrial Grade Air Conditioners & Heat Pumps are designed as a total solution to building climate control in severely corrosive and Hazardous (Classified) Areas. The Unit are designed to comply with all requirements of National Electrical Code Article 500, and provides the most exemplary solution to environmental control in highly corrosive environments.
Technical DescriptionBebco Model IX-WAC/HP Industrial Grade
Air Conditioners & Heat Pumps are self-contained wall mounted units with all necessary components to supply a room or building with recirculated air that is temperature controlled and humidity limited.
The HVAC system features two isolated sections, stacked one atop the other. The lower section, known as the condenser compartment, contains the condenser coil, condenser fan motor, condenser fan and shroud assembly, compressor, and pressure sensors which supply the unit controls with signals to activate and deactivate the compressor and condenser fan. The upper section, known as the evaporator compartment, contains the evaporator coil, optional heater elements, an evaporator blower wheel and motor assembly, electrical controls and a return air filter element.
The units are contained within a 14 gauge seal-welded 316 grade stainless steel sheet metal housing that features wall surface mounting flanges,18 gauge stainless steel ventilation grills on the condenser compartment, and doorway drip shield flanges. The units are intended for use in highly corrosive outdoor environments and feature a white urethane paint finish on all housing and component surfaces, but it can also be painted any custom color requested.
The unit bottom support bracket, return air filter grille, and supply air register are shipped loose in the crate, to complete field installation. In addition, custom supply ducts with registers can be furnished upon request to distribute air evenly to multiple rooms or the entire length of a large single room.

IMPORTANT "G2" & "G1" UNIT NOTES
"G2" Units are designed for use on structures with nonhazardous interior ratings as a result of Type Z pressurization in accordance with NFPA 496. The structure must contain no internal source of ignitable concentrations of gases or vapors, e.g. analyzer rooms. "G2" Units must be powered by a circuit located after or separate from a disconnect switch for the pressurization unit, in accordance with NFPA 496 section 5.4.9

"22" Units are designed and approved for use on control rooms or buildings classified as Class I, Division 2 / Zone 2, Groups B,C&D / IIA, IIB and contain no internal source of ignitable concentrations of gases or vapors (analyzer rooms)."22" Units are also designed and approved for use on analyzer rooms or buildings classified as Class I, Division 2 / Zone 2, Groups B,C&D / IIA, IIB, if the room or building is ventilated in accordance with NFPA 496 section 8.3.1.
IMPORTANT "22" "21" & "2G" UNIT NOTES
"11 and 21" as well as "1G, G1 and 12" Units incorporate a Type "Y" pneumatic purging system to render all or some Division 2 rated motors and conduit systems suitable for a Division 1 Group C & D Hazardous Areas.
IMPORTANT "11" & " 21" UNIT NOTES
User must provide a clean source of instrument air or inert gas that is essentially free of any ignitable concentration of combustible gas, and operate purging system in complete accordance with manufacturer's instructions and NFPA 496.
Manufacturing ProcessBebco begins the manufacturing process with fully inspected and tested components, and a seal-welded 316 stainless steel housing. First, 1” foil-backed foam insulation is applied to all interior surfaces of the evaporator compartment. Then, an evaporator coil and stainless steel drip pan are installed in the evaporator compartment then a compressor and condenser coil are installed in the condenser compartment.
Technicians then install all necessary copper tubing with hand fitted solder joints to complete all interconnections between the condenser coil, the compressor and the evaporator coil and preform leakage tests. Upon proving the performance of all tubing, the condenser coil shroud, fan motor and fan blade assembly are installed in the condenser compartment and the evaporator blower wheel and motor assembly are installed in the evaporator compartment.
Finally, the HVAC system is fitted with electrical controls, conduit, pressure sensors and wiring, and all stainless steel grills, and a rear access door. The completed unit is then inspected and performance tested to ensure optimal performance.
Component RatingsGeneral Purpose rated evaporator compartments are fitted with a general purpose blower motor, a blower assembly with galvanized blower wheels, and a NEMA 4 rated electrical control enclosure.
Division 2 rated evaporator compartments are fitted with a TENV blower motor with hermetically sealed thermal overloads, aluminum blower wheels, and a NEMA 4 and 7 rated explosion proof electrical control enclosure.
General Purpose rated condenser compartments are fitted with a standard compressor, a general purpose fan motor and a galvanized fan blade.
Division 2 rated condenser compartments are fitted with a modified compressor, a TENV fan motor with hermetically sealed thermal overloads, and aluminum fan blade.
Sealed flex conduit, appropriate conduit seals, and form seven fittings are used in the condenser compartment, for all wiring between the compressor, condenser motor and electrical controls.
The evaporator compartment is fitted with a sealed wiring harnesses or sealed flex conduit and conduit seals, depending on the interior rating.
An intrinsically safe isolator is added to protect the thermostat for Hazardous interiors and intrinsically safe barriers are added for condenser compartment sensors on units with Division 2 rated areas.
DIVISION I APPLICATION NOTEType Y purging will be used to protect motors, compressor and conduit system on Units rated for Class I, Division 1, Group B Hazardous Areas. Contact a Bebco Sales Associate for information.
Operation & ServiceInitial start-up is accomplished by ensuring that the thermostat controller for the HVAC system is set to the "off" condition. Power can then be applied to a main disconnect switch for the unit after any conditions such as building pressurization have been satisfied. The HVAC system's thermostat can then be set to activate heating or cooling functions.
During normal operation, the HVAC system will cycle on and off as needed to meet thermal control demands.
Power to the HVAC system must be disengaged prior to accessing the HVAC system evaporator compartment.
Please contact a Bebco Sales Associate or refer to the installation, operation and maintenance manual for more information regarding operation.
Electrical RatingsAs shown in the cross section view to the right, the condenser compartment is exposed to the surrounding atmosphere, while the evaporator compartment is only exposed to air which is recirculated within the climate controlled building or room.
The units are therefore designed with a split rating, distinguished by a segment of the Model Number that identifies the unit’s electrical rating. The segment consists of two characters which represent the separate evaporator and condenser compartment ratings.
Please utilize the model number designations chart on Page 8 to select the correct unit for your particular application.
