From Your Canon:

Jesus instructed his disciples that they

must be like children, be willing to give

up everything, be willing to take a last

place and be willing to carry the cross.

The sons of Zebedee then want to be

first in the kingdom. They seemed to

have missed the model of discipleship Jesus was providing for them,

one they would embrace only after they began to understand.

“Trunk or Treat” will take place in the parking lot on Friday, October

29: 6:00-8:00 PM. Children will come in costume to receive treats from

those cars parked in the parking lot. If you wish to be one of those cars,

please call the office to let us know you will be there!

The Annual St. Louis Center Dinner and Auction is back this year

and will be held in our Hall on Saturday November, 13 beginning at 6:00

PM. Tickets to the dinner are $150.00 donation each. Come and support

the residents of St Louis Center and bid on the many wonderful items that

have been donated.

Events this Week: Mon. 9:45 AM. Scripture Study Gathering Space

Tue. 7:00 PM RCIA: Room 10

Wed. 12:15 PM Ladies Bible Study: Hall

7:00 PM Choir Practice: Church

Thu. 6:30 PM Rosary: Church

When receiving Communion, we first make a bow, then either receive

on the tongue or into hands placed up over each other. We are neither to

grab the host from the minister, nor put both hands out, or form a grate

with our fingers. We immediately consume the host and never mouth it

from our hand, but use our fingers to place it in our mouths.

Model Discipleship

St. Mary, Chelsea, Michigan

This past week parents met to receive materials to help their children

prepare for First Reconciliation in January 2022. Jesus calls us to the

Two Great Commandments – “love God with all your heart, soul, mind

and strength and love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12:30) And then the night before Jesus dies, he

ups the commandment – “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you

must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one anoth-

er.” (John 13:34, 35) This love is not only important for us and our families, but for the whole world. “By

this everyone will know.” What is our witness to the world like? Are we being the light Jesus calls us to

be? We can’t do it on our own. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE!!!! That’s why we need to encounter Jesus in the sac-

raments to receive from him that which we must give away – love and forgiveness. Please keep these

families in your prayers.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

& Faith Formation

“In the biblical tradition, the Son of Man is the one who receives from

God “dominion, glory and kingship”. Jesus fills this image with new

meaning. He shows us that He enjoys dominion because He is a servant, glory because He is capable of

abasement, kingship because He is fully prepared to lay down His life. By His passion and death, He

takes the lowest place, attains the heights of grandeur in service and bestows this upon His Church”…

Pope Francis – October 2015

Jubilate! The Youth Choir of St. Mary will hold first rehearsal on Sunday, October 31 at 11:15 am in

the church. Refer to the flyer for information or contact Steve Hinz.

Our song of praise for communion:

To Serve is to Reign

Here I am among you

as one who serves.

Whoever would be great among you

must be your servant;

whoever would be first among you

must be your slave.

Just so, the Son of Man came

not to be served but to serve,

and to lay down his life for all.

Deacon Tom Bio

I was born and raised in San Diego, where I met Joy, who became my high school

sweetheart. We married in 1966, and we have nine children. I have worked in sales,

manufacturing control, purchasing and computer systems design and implementation,

and Joy earned her RN. After we moved to Michigan in 1984, she worked in pediatric

intensive care at the University of Michigan. We spent a while away from the Church,

but God had other plans for us. I “accidentally” got involved in the Parish CCD pro-

gram. Partnering with Sally Pobojewski, we taught middle schoolers for several years.

Then, in a period of two weeks, two people said that they thought that I should look

into the diaconate. Deacon Dick Shaneyfelt said that my timing was excellent because a new group of

men was being assembled to begin the diaconal education and formation process. So, here I am today, 20

years and then some later, a worked example of God’s grace – a work still in progress. Relying on God’s

continuing grace and hearing the occasional divine “OY VEY,” I serve here at St. Mary as one of your

deacons. Who could ask for anything more?

Beth Wenzel Bio

Born and raised in Jackson, Michigan, I grew up in a non-religious family. We believed

in Christian values, but we didn’t actively go to church or talk about God. When I met

my husband, Sean, I really started to be introduced to the Catholic Faith. Sean was not

a practicing Catholic at the time, but he held strong to his faith and values. We were

married in 2005 and have three children who have been raised in the Catholic faith,

bringing Sean back to his faith, and me to mine. I officially joined the Church in 2016

on Holy Saturday. In 2017, God opened the door for me to become the office secretary.

A position that answered some prayers on purpose, and filled a wanting to be more active in the church.

We would also like to thank

those parishioners that contribut-
