Section 1 : Using the Jukebox

INTRODUCTION

The following is a reference guide for the Operator to navigate the userinterface (UI) on the Jukebox. There are a couple reasons why it isimportant that the Operator feels comfortable with all of the UI features.First, the Operator needs to know how to answer questions on how touse the jukebox for employees and customers at the location. Second, the Operator needs to know what a normal UI looks like in order totroubleshoot the UI and understand when specific features are avail-able or not.

The second way to confirm a jukebox isconnected is to look at the album imagesdisplayed on the SEARCH screen. If thejukebox is not connected, the only albumsthat will be displayed will be local albums. Inthis case album images will be displayed. When the jukebox is connected to the AMIEntertainment Network, download imageswill be displayed in place of album images foreach selection that is not stored locally on thejukebox hard drive.

Using the System

AMI Entertainment NetworkConnection

There will be periods of time where the juke-box cannot connect to the AMI EntertainmentNetwork. This may be due to outages of thelocation broadband connection, maintenanceoutages of the AMI Entertainment servers orsome other reason. Even though the jukeboxis not connected to the AMI Entertainmentnetwork, local music can still be selected andplayed.

Connection to the AMI Entertainment Net-work can be confirmed by two visual indica-tors on the User Interface. First, while lookingat the ALBUM tab, one of the 10 albumimages will be replaced by the downloadimage. The album title will display “Music onDemand”. This image is a clear indicationthat the jukebox is communicating with theAMI Entertainment Network. When a cus-tomer touches this image, the SEARCHscreen will appear.

Operating the Jukebox

Use this reference guide to navigate the

jukebox.

Attract Loop

This moving image file may consist of adver-tisements, promotions and graphic imagesand appears when no one has touched thetouch screen for a few minutes. Simply touchthe screen to begin using the system. Theattract loop will automatically disappear.

Getting Started

Touch any part of the screen to begin viewingalbum covers.

Paying to Use the SystemThe Price of Credit appears on the screen.Insert bills into the bill acceptor or coins intothe coin slot to receive credits. Total creditsare based on money inserted. Credits willappear in the upper right-hand corner of thescreen. Credits will not accumulate until theamount of money inserted reaches one ofthe pricing levels displayed in the Price ofCredit list.

Post Classic Template

The first screen that is displayed after leavingthe attract mode will be the Album Selectscreen. This is indicated by the lighted AL-BUM button on the middle tab just under thescreen banner at the top of the screen. Thebanner will indicate that All Music is beingdisplayed.

Note the Touch to Download button dis-played in the top center position, and also thephrase “Touch Search to Download” abovethe SEARCH radio button. These items willappear on every album screen whenever thecomputer is connected to the server. Shouldthese items not appear on the album screenit indicates that a connection problem existsor the AMI network is unavailable.

The song selection process is the same forlocal music and download music. The juke-box will indicate a local selection by display-ing the graphic image of an album cover. Toselect and play a local song, at least onecredit must present. Music that is not storedlocally on the hard drive will have a downloadimage displayed in place of the album cover. To select and play a download song willrequire at least two credits be present on thejukebox. A download confirmation screenwill display the number of credits required toplay the song and ask you to confirm yourselection. Press YES to confirm and play thesong, press NO to cancel your selection andcontinue browsing the music library.

Browse through album covers on the localjukebox by pressing the red arrow keys oneither side of the album panel. The screenwill show 10 album covers per page. Whenyou reach the last page, the arrow on the rightwill disappear. When you reach the firstpage, the arrow on the left will disappear.

Making a Selection

The jukebox software supports multiple tem-plates and skins. A template is the actuallayout of the images and control buttons onthe User Interface (UI). A skin is a variationin color and control shape for a specifictemplate.

From time to time, a software update willcontain a new template and/or skin. The newtemplate may provide new features, changedor enhanced features, and may add or re-move some control buttons.

Page 7: MoD BoX User Manual

To make it even easier, Kwik Pick provides abutton called “Play All Credit.” Touch thatbutton and Kwik Pick will automatically picksongs one at a time, starting at the top of thedisplayed list, until all credit is used up. Inmany locations, a customer will give a waiteror waitress a few dollars and ask them to playsome music on the jukebox. Now all theyneed to do is deposit the bills and touch oneor two buttons. Kwik Pick will choose themost popular music using the credits on themachine. And since the program redistrib-utes the list’s songs each time it’s played,Kwik Pick can be used over and over againwithout bar patrons hearing the same music.

Lava Lamp Template

This template is a simplified UI. The processof selecting a song is the same as the PostClassic template. However, there are onlytwo buttons on the top of the screen, KwikPick and Search. Search works the same asthe Post Classic template and is explainedlater in this section.

Kwik Pick is a new feature that replaces thePopular button in previous software versions.

The Kwik Pick feature makes choosing goodmusic quick and easy. The jukebox’s soft-ware calculates daily, based on selectionsmade over the past two weeks or longer, themost popular 50 songs played on the sys-tem. This song list is then loaded into theKwik Pick list. Each time a patron choosesKwik Pick, a random list of songs is dis-played. The list contains both local andMusic On Demand songs. The patron canview the list using up and down arrow but-tons. To play a specific song in the list, thepatron simply touches the song title. Creditis deducted and the song is queued up.
