Campers will be spending sometime outside, if you would like them to wear sunscreen or bug spray you must administer it at home in the morning. The MOCA Museum Staff cannot be made responsible for administering sunscreen or bug spray. For kids who frequently need a change of clothes, we suggest packing extra clothes in a Ziploc bag labeled with your child’s name, in your camper’s backpack.

DISCIPLINE

Our number one rule is RESPECT. This includes self-respect, respect for fellow students, respect for instructors, and respect for the space and materials MOCA provides. Parents are expected to help implement this rule with their participating children.

Unacceptable behavior is defined as behavior that is disruptive to the group’s well-being or harmful to others (or ones’ self) i.e. hitting, punching, biting, threatening or inappropriate language. Our staff will use behavior management techniques such as redirection, conflict resolution and positive reinforcement when handling behavior situations. Corporal punishment is not used at MOCA.

A child with disruptive behavior will be given an opportunity to correct him/herself. If the behavior is not corrected, the child will be removed from the groups for a specified time period depending on the age of the child. Parents will be informed if their child’s behavior is disruptive and will be expected to work cooperatively with The MOCA staff to correct the behavior. MOCA reserves the right to dismiss a child from the program when behavior problems continue to disrupt the program and/or the camp is not able to positively function within our group size and counselor-to-camper ratio. There is no refund for a child who is asked to leave camp.

TUITION

Tuition is due at the time of registration. Parents/Guardians must complete full payment(s) online or at MOCA’s front desk for their child’s specified session(s) to be considered an enrolled attendee to our program. Due to high demands for spots in MOCA Summer Arts Camp once a student begins their first day there are no partial or full refunds issued. MOCA prides itself on project based learning and non-attendance during camp affects final project outcomes. It is highly encouraged that your child attends the full 2 weeks uninterrupted.

MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART

Summer Art Camp Rules 2019 In order to ensure the best summer experience for every camper, it is important that campers treat one another with respect and follow established camp rules. The rules are to be read, signed, and returned to MOCA prior to the first day of camp. The rules are as follows: Campers may not bring Gameboys, PS3s or any electronic handheld toys to camp. Cell phones may not be used during class and should packed away safely in lunch boxes. Campers should:

Be courteous, kind and respectful of others

Keep a positive attitude

Participate in cleaning up

Report any problems to a counselor

Follow directions at all times Campers should not:

Disobey, disregard or defy a staff member

Fight or start a fight that results in an injury

Intentionally destroy or steal any equipment, property or artwork

Throw any object at another person

Strike or hit a person with any object

Bring any kind of weapon or other dangerous object to camp PROCEDURES

On the first day of camp, the Camp Director will explain all rules to campers.

Positive reinforcement of appropriate behavior will be used.

If a camper breaks a rule, the Camp Director will be notified before any child is disciplined.

Campers will have a “3-strike” opportunity to correct inappropriate behavior before a phone call is made to notify parents, and to ask for assistance in behavior modification.

If parents need to be notified more than once, the camper may be asked to leave the camp.

In the event that a camper is having difficulty controlling impulsive behavior: 1. Camp staff will conduct a timeout/mini conference with the camper to discuss the problem and

possible solutions with the camper.

2. Parent will be informed of the camper’s behavior and of actions taken.

3. If inappropriate behavior continues, the camper may be asked to leave the program.

Each day of camp, an adult must sign in when dropping off a camper and sign out at the end of the day when picking up the camper.

Pick up is scheduled between 3:30pm and 5:30pm.

In case a parent is running late, MOCA must be notified by calling 305-893-6211.

MOCA closes at 6:00pm. Campers who are not picked up by 5:45pm will be escorted to the North Miami Police Department, located next to MOCA, where they will wait for an adult to sign them out.
