Mobile Website Design: The Golden Rules Mobile websites are becoming increasingly commonplace.

There are several reasons for this, but mainly it’s because our mobiles and tablets now come with internet as standard in the majority of cases – in the past, we used to have to pay for data per byte, and that became astronomically expensive after a few minutes of browsing. Today, many of us pay as little as £5 per month for full and unlimited internet access. If you’re interested in building a mobile website then there are a few things that you need to understand, which we address during the course of this article.

Understand How Users Want to Interact with the Website This is a fundamental step in website

design, and any mobile website design company will verify this fact. You need to understand what your customers want from your website, before you start on the technical side of things.

The website must be logical and structured in a way that makes sense, and is useful, to the user. For example, imagine that you want to sell women’s fashions. Most likely, your users will be looking for different types of particular items, e.g. shoes, dresses, trousers, etc. A decent website will make it very apparent, exactly how to navigate to this area of the website.

Some things to remember her are:

1.Big buttons: most of us use our fingers to navigate the touchscreen on our mobile phones. If this is something that you do, then you’ll already be aware of how fat our fingertips are in comparison to what we might imagine. Smaller buttons make it very easy to click on the wrong link, and it’s not long before we’re travelling here there and everywhere just to get to the place we intended to arrive at initially. As a website developer, you get around this problem by creating big buttons with lots of space between these buttons.

2.Easy navigation: as mentioned above, it’s important that your users can navigate easily around the website. Everything needs to be structured in a way that makes sense, but is also relevant. You may have to do a bit of market research to establish exactly what your particular users want to look at, and in with order, they want to look at them in.

3.Less content: with standard websites, ‘content is king’ and it’s the same with mobile websites…with one exception. A Mobile website design company will keep content to a minimum. They will say as much as possible in as short a space as possible. They will also feature fewer media objects (e.g. videos and sound clips). This is because the more content you have the longer it will take to load. Mobile phones have a relatively low CPU, so they can’t deal with a lot of data – they certainly can’t deal with the usual gubbins that you find on a standard website. Your users will navigate away from your site if it takes too long to load.

As long as you follow these simple rules, your mobile website should be a hit – you have to have the right product, though, and we can’t help you there.

The technology behind creating the above qualities is relatively complex. You may need to learn a lot of new information.
