Mobile Device Server Environment
Benefits
• “Mobilize” a client/server app
• Robust commercial product support for semantic technology capabilities on the server platform
Challenges
• Doesn’t deliver semantic functionality to the mobile device
• Data access is controlled by the server. (Server App Layer decides which semantic databases to access)
• Requires “always connected” network
• App performance affected by network performance

Mobile Device Server Environment
Benefits
• Executes semantic queries through the server environment
• Can query semantic data from multiple servers
• Robust commercial product support for semantic technology capabilities on the server platform
Challenges
• Requires “always connected” network
• App performance affected by network performance

Standalone Mobile App
Application Layer
Semantic Tech Layer

Mobile Device
Benefits
• The data is local to the mobile device
• Does not require a network connection to operate
Challenges
• Limited commercial product support for semantic technology capabilities on the mobile platform

Linked Data Environment
Benefits
• Some data is local to the mobile device
• Queries that reference external data are processed through URI links to one or more linked data resource platforms
• Can query semantic data from multiple servers
Challenges
• Requires “always connected” network for transactions that require access to off-device data
• App performance, when querying off-device data, is affected by network performance
• Limited commercial product support for semantic technology capabilities on the mobile platform

One-fifth of the bankers surveyed said they were interested in offering mobile banking apps that work with Google Glass.
"I want all the tellers and front end staff to be using Google Glass.“
Bankers are … waiting for consumer adoption to pick up before building mobile banking apps for [Google Glass].
American Banker, April 24, 2014
Banking [Indiana University Health surgeon] Szotek and his team used the [Google Glass] technology earlier this year to remove a rare tumor from an Indiana man. Google Glass' voice command capabilities allowed him to view medical records during the four-hour procedure without having to take his hands or eyes off the patient. He says the device can make surgeries safer and more efficient.
