FACE VALUE: PAYPAL HERE HTTP://WWW.MOBILEMARKETINGMAGAZINE.CO.UK/

PayPal now allow UK users to use their own face as authentication. The PayPal app will allow users to search for local businesses such as restaurants that accept mobile PayPal payments.

The user will then check into the venue on the app and their name and picture will appear on the stores PayPal app. The customer will then be able to pay using the app and the cashier will be able to complete the transaction by clicking on the profile picture. This app will stop businesses having to turn away customers who do not carry enough money around with them and it will help prevent Identify theft.

QUALCOMM TO LAUNCH SMARTWATCH ON CYBER MONDAY HTTP://WWW.MOBILEMARKETINGMAGAZINE.CO.UK/

Qualcomm to Launch Smartwatch on Cyber Monday Mobile tech firm Qualcomm is launching its own smartwatch,

the Qualcomm Toq and it will be available on their company website for $350. To use it you would require a companion device with Bluetooth than runs Android 4.0 and above. Users will be able to accept and reject calls, view notifications and access a small selection of apps. CEO Paul Jacobs said “Like a traditional watch, Toq displays information at a glance with no on/off switch. And paired with a smartphone to receive notifications and content, it allows the watch to seamlessly merge our physical and digital lives.” I believe this item will not sell well as it will only be available on the Qualcomm website and many Android users will not want to pay $350 to access their phone on a watch when they could just take their phone out of their pocket. It is a clever idea but I think it will be seen as a bit of a gimmick.

APPLE ALREADY AT WORK ON IPHONE 6 HTTP://WWW.MOBILEMARKETINGWATCH.COM/

Apple Already at Work on iPhone 6

Apple are already working on the iPhone 6 according to Chinese blog C Technology despite the recent releases of the 5s and 5C. The new iPhone will reportedly have a larger curved screen (4.9 inches). With the continued growth of Samsung and other smart phone companies Apple are going to have to do a lot more than making a bigger screen if they want to become dominant again.

NFC

Near field communication is a tool used by numerous different organisations. It’s used to process micro transactions under £5 usually via just pressing the device against the pinpad. An example of a company using this technology would be Starbucks, they allow for either an individual to scan a barcode via the app, or a customer the ability to tap their debit or credit card against the technology. Another technology which adopts NFC is google wallet which allows for a location of merchants who use NFC.

PROXIMITY MARKETING

Proximity Marketing mainly uses bluetooth and wifi to communicate with consumers, sending out electronic alerts which allow for advertisement to the customer. An interesting case study is from brand of Pot Noodle. They targeted 18-25 year illd males in the masses across Northern regions. through BlisMobile Northern rail networks males were easily targeted, after initial trials Pot Noodle rolled out to the following major mainline railway stations - London Victoria, -Manchester, -Leeds, -Newcastle. A clear call to action was advertised on the digital transmission screen, displaying a moving display of pot noodle ambassadors and an invite for viewers to download the free gaming application. The results were a 95,000 download over a 4 week period, which was a great success rate. It had a viral effect. - Quoted from mmaglobal.com/node/12050

There are multiple different technologies that are available, some of the big ones that are up and coming are Hadoop, Mongo DB and also Scala.

SMARTPHONE STATISTICS BY COUNTRY

UK

As we know in the UK by anywhere you look, the market and most people in the UK are on their phone, always looking at social media, something that has become so easily done in the UK with its mobile cover reach so much more people can use the internet on their smartphones.

In the UK, android has become the number one most used ‘Smartphones’ in 2013

The UK have a defined split into the trends within the battle to the number one slot of the best smartphone on the market today.

CHINA

China has possibly the highest of the population in the world in terms of people, so with marketing opportunities can come much easier to start selling in such cities as ‘Beijing and Shanghai’ as a capital for new tech releases and mobile usage.

A dip in trending towards smartphones have taken a major hit in china over the year 2006-2011 towards the beginning of 2012, you can see a rise in use of smartphones.

Apple for the December 2013 is going to see 700 million orders towards the use of new 5s/6 that will make a game changer to the smartphone sales and direction.

USA

USA as we know, knows the market and ways into how build and design are manufactured, take the iPhone. Designed in California (West USA) and is then build in China.

With the hunger of the use of fast and to the point tech, America is always trying to get a new fresh hold in everything that we use and be able to overtake such things as tablets and laptops.

In the years to come, the rest of the world such as the UK are then able to start being big competitors of the smartphone race

Compared to China, USA haven’t gone into smart phone trends until the year 2007, and has found a great amount of growth.

SNAPCHAT

Snapchat – Snapchat is a way of sharing videos or photos with adding a caption and sending to a friend or friends. They will view the snap but only for a limited amount of seconds (1-10), unless they take a screenshot! If you want to share a snap with all your Snapchat friends then you can add it to your Snapchat Story, where each snap is live for 24 hours.

After you download the app, you must first create an account with a valid e-mail address in order to start. The downside of this is that there are no Facebook or Google login options. Once you have done this, you are in, then Snapchat can access your address book (only if you grant it permission) for any contacts that are using the app, there is also an option to invite friends who are not. Snapchats interface is simple and instinctive and with its unique timer feature, Snapchat offers a ‘fun’ and ‘sneaky’ way to share photos and videos. However, Snapchat needs more photo and video editing tools as you cannot import items from outside the app, also the video snaps are of low quality.

WHATSAPP

WhatsApp – WhatsApp is a way of messaging your friends including sending photos and videos with the use of the internet without incurring texting fees. WhatsApp interface is clean and simple, with an easy navigation system at the bottom for Favourites, Status, Contacts, Chats and Settings. WhatsApp has a speedy setup and performance and it allows you to keep your phone number, however, the App does not sync with Facebook. WhatsApp uses the green arrows to indicate whether your message was delivered and read, you can also see when your friend is typing. WhatsApp is a good way to keep in touch with friends and family without having to pay a bundle for text-messaging fees.
