Near Field CommunicationNear Field Communication is a short-range wireless connectivity that uses a magnetic field induction to enable communication between devices when they're touched together, or brought within a few centimeters of each other.

The first thing to know is that NFC is actually not new tech. It's an evolution of the radio-frequency identification technology, which has been used for years as the basis for the London Underground's Oyster card.

The use that is proven to be most popular, and with the most potential is the idea of contactless payment with phones. In which NFC will be used to enable the user to simply scan their device to purchase items from stores, however on top of this will have coupons, receipts, loyalty points and warranty programs all sent directly to their mobile.

Companies that are using this idea already are; Barclays in a contactless debit card system, the Google Nexus S smart phone developed a way to get information on a place by tapping a phone against a special Google-branded location card, negating the need to search manually.

Smartphone Statistics

These statistics look at the most common mobile operator in individual continents and worldwide. The figures show that Symbian OS is the most common in; Africa, Asia and South America whereas IOS is most common in; Europe, Australia and North America. This shows potential mobile marketers that if you wish to reach consumers in Africa then advertising through IOS is useless and a waste of time, making these statistics beneficial.

QR CodesQR or Quick Response Codes where created in Japan by Toyota in 1994. QR codes where originally developed by Toyota to track vehicles during the manufacturing process as components could be scanned at high speed.

QR codes have quickly been adopted by the advertising industry due to the mass popularity of smartphones which have ‘put a barcode in everyone’s pocket’. Advertisers have capitalised on this in recent years and barcodes are now usually seen on packaging, posters, loyalty cards and magazines.

When scanned by a barcode reader application QR codes will direct you a link using the internet. This is often used effectively by many businesses who use QR codes to direct consumers to their website’s or a special offer. The reason this operation has become so successful is due to the simplicity QR codes. QR codes can are now placed on most promotional material meaning

iAd’s

The company Apple, in 2010 launched an advertising service in order for Marketers to advertise their products to the millions of apple users around the world.

This was supposed to be a new, unique way of sending an advertising message to audiences.

iAds Success?According to Forbes magazine Apple’s iAd is seen to have failed, in its brief 2 years of activation.

Reasons for this, is that many users find it more annoying than informative.

Advertisers have to take big risks before it came see results. And with that, the costs of using iAds is still very expensive.

Finally, realistically iAds audience is limited. It can only reach Ipod or Ipad users.

Proximity MarketingProximity marketing is the localized usage of advertising content that’s made possible by the utilization of a wireless distribution network integrated with a specific place. Potential targets of this medium of marketing who wish to receive the transmissions for the advertising content are only able to do so by having the required device and being in that particular place. Devices in the range of the distribution are more commonly and specifically targeted, via a traditional and localized broadcast. The whereabouts of the device are discovered by:• A cellular phone in a specific spot.• A Bluetooth or WiFi device being within range of the transmitter.• A GPS enabled device that’s requesting localized content from the Internet

servers. • A NFC enabled phone that can read a RFID chip on a product or media and

launch localized content from the Internet servers.

Unlike other apps of this nature, the user is not, bombarded with adverts. Another feature is the apps language settings, which allow the user to receive news in an array of different languages.
