ZEPPELIN-Shelter® Technology and Quality

Be it as a standardized system or a customer-specifi c developed unit, ZEPPELlN-Shelter® in the FM Series and ISO 20’ as well as for vehicle box bodies offer individual and functional equipment and

features for the most diverse applications of mobile or stationary communication technology – based on 10‘, 15‘, 20' sizes or to customized dimensions. More than 10,000 delivered units for civilian and military operations speak clearly for the quality and usability.

The high quality of the ZEPPELIN-Shelter® is based on the special design of the shelter cell, which is made of frame profi les and sandwich plates for fl oor, roof and walls with aluminum cover sheeting and pre-manufactured

polyurethane rigid-foam core, milled according to drawing with accuracies to 0.2 mm.

Reinforcements are integrated in the roof, fl oor and walls of the shelter cell for fastening components and equipment in the interior. An additional insulation layer is installed between the frame profi le and the interior cover sheeting to avoid thermal bridges. The cover sheetings, the core material and the profi le frame are bonded in a heat press, resulting in a homogeneous sandwich plate, which ensures very high stability and a long service life.

9

On ZEPPELIN-Shelter® of the FM Series, the sandwich plates are joined to the shelter cell using rivets and welded corner half-shells made of cast aluminum. All joining locations of the exterior cover sheetings are welded throughout. ZEPPELlN-Shelter® of the ISO Series are equipped with a steel frame to support the top load. The sandwich plates and the steel frame are joined together with rivets to form the core cell. Throughout, the exterior cover sheetings are connected water-tight to the steel frame.

Upon design and manufacture standards, all required preventive corrosion-protection measures are met that are necessary to maintain the function and usability of the Shelter over its complete service life. All materials, adhesives, etc. being used have material parameters as well as chemical and physical properties that support the highest-possible functional use.

The shelters are equipped with all necessary and operational-specifi c openings, the complete array of fi ttings as well as an optional fastening-rail system in the roof, fl oor and walls. All corners of the ZEPPELlN-Shelter® are fi tted with corner castings made either of steel or cast aluminum, depending on Shelter design and type, dimensioned in compliance with DIN ISO 1161.

ZEPPELlN-Shelter® can be equipped with HF shielding in accordance with NATO Specifi cation 6516 (minimum shielding of 60 dB in the frequency range between 100 kHz and 1 GHz).

Depending on requirement, ballistic protection to STANAG 4569, Level 1 - 3, can be provided for the ZEPPELlN-Shelter®. In this, ZMS differentiates between integrated and adaptive protection. Dependent of protection class, the integrated protection technology developed by ZMS (ZMS property right No. 203 15 249.2, armored shelters in container form) allows for a variety of ballistically breaking and stopping materials – such as Aramids, armor steel with varying alloys and hardness, as well as ceramics – to be integrated into the sandwich design.

The adaptive protection – also possible as a retrofi t for non-protected Shelters – is achieved through separate plates that are easily mounted to the shelter cell by means of fastening systems, such as C-rails. A variety of materials can be used here, depending on the protection class required by the operator.
