1981 World’s first mobile frequency synthesis tuner. Before Sony, tuning a car radio meant turning a knob connected to a sloppy, imprecise variable capacitor. The Sony XT-1 changed all that.

1991 World’s first Mobile digital preamplifier. Part of the legendary Mobile ES system, the XES-P1 included digital volume, balance, fader, parametric equalization and sound fields.

1984 World’s first mobile full-logic cassette deck. Before Sony, the Stop, Play, Fast Forward and Rewind buttons operated clunky levers and rods. Sony replaced them with electronically operated touch-buttons in the XR-740 and XR-780.

1979 World’s first Walkman® player. Sony sets music in motion with the world’s first headphone personal stereo, the TPS-L2.

2010 Sony’s first receiver with TomTom® navigation The XNV-770BT in-dash AV receiver.

2011 World’s first Pandora® internet radio control for three smartphone platforms The DSX-S310BTX supports Pandora control not only via iPhone® devices1, but also Android™ and BlackBerry® phones1.

2012 First MirrorLink™ certified receiver in the USA The Sony XAV-601BT becomes the first MirrorLink™ cerified AV receiver released in the USA.

Milestones along the roadSony has an amazing track record.

Sony started with soundFor the moment, forget about BRAVIA® televisions, Handycam® cameras and PlayStation® consoles. Before any of that, Sony was an audio company. We’ve been breaking sound barriers for 60 years. And we’ve been advancing audio technology all the way from the recording studio to your ears.

The Power of Sony® Mobile Audio

1982 World’s first mobile diversity reception tuner. Two FM antennas can do what one cannot — minimize multipath distortion. Sony proved it with the XR-100.

1950 Japan’s first audio tape recorder. The Type G changed recorded history.

1984 World’s first mobile CD player. It only stands to reason that the company that co-invented the Compact Disc was first to bring the wonders of digital audio into the car, with the CDX-5 CD player and CDX-R7 CD/tuner.

1986 World’s first Mobile A/V system. This included the XTV-5 and XTV-8 monitors, the EVX-S8 8mm video deck and the XVM-9 TV tuner with diversity reception.

1979 World’s first mobile PWM amp. The PWM switching power supply was far more efficient than conventional amps, as Sony demonstrated with the XM-1.

2010 Sony’s first receiver with Tune Tray The DSX-S100 Digital Media Receiver.

2011 Sony’s first Digital Link Sound System DLSSThe XDP-PK1000 integrates iPod® touch or iPhone® music1 with no need to rip apart your dashboard. It even upgrades your bass, power, clarity and imaging!

1986 World’s first CD changer. Before it came into homes, the CD changer actually appeared in cars first with the CDX-J10 DiscJockey 10-disc changer.

Digital Link Sound SystemThe challenge: to integrate your iPod® touch or iPhone® devices5

and get great sound without replacing the factory radio or tearing out factory speakers. The solution: Sony’s Digital Link Sound System. The XDP-MU110 delivers slick integration for iPod touch and iPhone devices, plus high power, plus sophisticated DSP that improves the stereo soundstage even for in-dash receiver sources. The XDP-PK1000 has all of that, plus an enclosed subwoofer and a rocking 300 watt Class-D subwoofer amp. Either way, the path from factory radio misery to autosound enlightenment has never been easier.

iPod touch® and iPhone® integration5

Not all iPhone® integration is created equal. Going from the headphone output to your factory radio is bush league. Going in via the FM tuner is even worse. Sony created a unique interface- preamp-power amp that integrates your iPhone as never before. The adjustable, dash-mounted cradle for iPhone makes it easy to play back stored audio content or launch streaming audio apps.

Digital Signal Processing (DSP)We don’t just connect your iPhone,® we make it sound better. Sony Digital Signal Processing (DSP) improves both your mobile device and your in-dash receiver sources with sophisticated time alignment, equalization and adjustable crossover points. The main processor box also includes a 45 watts x 4 amplifier to make your factory speakers sound their best.

12-inch enclosed subwooferFor loud, clear, gut-kicking bass, here’s a genuine Sony subwoofer, complete with dimpled cone to generate extra-high volume with extra-low distortion. And unlike raw subs, this one comes complete with a perfectly matched wooden enclosure — another way Sony makes high-end audio easy.

XDP-PK1000 At a GlanceThere’s never been anything quite like Sony’s XDP-PK1000 Digital Link Sound System. It’s more than iPhone®5 integration. It’s more than a subwoofer upgrade. It’s the total solution that takes plain-vanilla factory radio to an entirely new level of sonic performance.

Power tripWhile the hide-away DSP box drives your factory speakers, there's even more power at your command. The supplied subwoofer is driven by a powerful Class D amp with 300 watts of power to satisfy your soul.

XDP-MU110 At a GlanceThis Digital Link Sound System makes exceptional iPhone®5 integration even more accessible. Here’s the easy way to connect your iPhone with maximum sound quality, to shape the sound with sophisticated Sony DSP and to power your tunes with 45 watts x 4 channels. Your factory radio never had it so good.

Enjoy unified control over your iPhone®5 and car system with cradle-mounted controls for volume, source and seek.

From SUV and minivan to sedan or coupe, your car’s sonic environment can be optimized with these switches for vehicle size, subwoofer and subwoofer location if included.

Now you don’t need to replace your factory head unit to get stylish iPhone®5 integration and great sound.

Install the cradle on dashboard properly so that the unit will not interfere with normal driving.

iPod touch® and iPhone® integration5

The headphone jack is a mediocre way to connect your iPhone® portable into your car stereo. It degrades the sound by first making it analog. Connecting via FM radio is even worse. Sony created a unique interface-preamp-power amp that integrates your iPhone as never before. The adjustable, dash-mounted cradle for iPhone makes it easy to play back stored audio content or launch streaming audio apps.

Digital Signal Processing (DSP)We don’t just connect your iPhone,® we make it sound better. Sony DSP improves both your mobile device and your in-dash receiver sources with sophisticated DSP including time alignment, equalization and adjustable crossover points.

Power tripFactory radios typically lack the power to take your music to the next level. Where factory radios can fall short, Sony’s XDP-MU110 excels. The compact, under-seat processor box includes plenty of power: 45 watts x 4. Net result? Your factory speakers will sound better than ever.

Auxiliary InputMost Sony head units include an Auxiliary Input on the front or rear panel. This enables you to connect virtually any device that has a stereo headphone output and feed the music directly into your Mobile Audio System. So there's no need for RF modulators that distort your music. (Not included on the DSX-S210X, DSX-S310BTX or XAV-701HD)

Compatible Devices:

Any digital music player, cell phone or other portable audio player that includes a headphone output. Requires connection cable with 3.5 mm mini-plug.

Sony® BusWay back when Sony created the trunk-mounted 10-disc CD changer, we needed some way to connect and control the changer from an in-dash receiver. This led to the Sony Bus, a flexible architecture for expanding your Sony Mobile Audio system in ways that could scarcely be imagined way back when!

Consider the system expansion possibilities:

> XT-100HD HD Radio™ tuner> XA-120IP iPod® interface> RM-X60M/L Remote Commander® marine controller > Third-party satellite radio tuners

(require service subscription)> XA-C40 Sony Bus switcher > XA-300 auxiliary input adaptor

The system starts with an in-dash receiver equipped with a Sony bus terminal, which handles control signals. Most Sony bus products include a pass-through connection, so you can daisy-chain additional Sony Bus components. Audio connections are made with line-level RCA cables.

Bluetooth CompatibilityBluetooth9 capabilities are developed according to "profiles" that may be included in specific devices.

2012 Sony Bluetooth receivers support the following profiles:

Two-device operation — limited by outdated Bluetooth technologies, some competitor's receivers can communicate with only one Bluetooth device at a time. Sony receivers can connect two simultaneously! So you can connect a Bluetooth phone and a Bluetooth digital music player and enjoy seamless switching when a call comes in!

HFP 1.5 (HandsFree Profile) — place and receive calls directly from the receivers front panel or with the included wireless remote.

OPP (Object Push Profile) — enables Bluetooth data transfer between devices.

PBAP (Phone Book Access Profile) — access your phone book information from your phone to the display and have control through the head unit.

The SensMe Channel display of Sony Mobile AV Receivers (XAV series) includes a thematic image for the channel (left) and album cover art (upper right).

SensMe™ Technology SensMe™ Technology

Content Transfer SoftwareSensMe™ technology begins on your Windows® PC, with Sony’s SensMe Setup and Content Transfer apps. The apps analyze your songs based on the 12 tones of the musical octave. In this way, the system can identify the song, album, and artist, retrieve the album cover art from the Internet and classify each song according to its tempo and musical content.

12-tone AnalysisThe SensMe™ 12-tone analysis looks at seemingly simple parameters such as tempo (beats per minute), rhythm ratio and number of notes. But it can also identify more high-level features like three-chord songs, acoustic versus electric instruments, bright versus dark and happy versus sad. A level of timeline analysis identifies beat positions, bar lines and music structure. The system saves this information as metadata tags in the music files. This metadata accompanies the music onto compatible digital music players and USB drives.

Not compatible with iPod® or iPhone® players.

SensMe™ ChannelsIn your car, SensMe channels make finding the right music as easy as picking a radio station. When you connect your compatible digital music player or USB drive to the head unit, you’re ready to take advantage. Choose from any of 17 SensMe Channels, organized by mood (such as Energetic, Relax) time of day (Morning, Midnight) and driving occasion (Party Ride, Weekend Trip). The system can handle up to 500 tracks per channel. As an added bonus, Sony AV Receivers will even display the album cover art as each song plays.

SensMe™ MoodHow are you feeling right this minute? Happy? Sad? Somewhere in between? The SensMe mood function of Sony Mobile AV Receivers enables you to pinpoint your mood on a two-dimensional chart. One dimension is Fast/Slow. The other is your choice of mood (Sad/Happy), Type (Soft/Hard), Style (Acoustic/Electronic) or time (Morning/Midnight). The system arranges up to 200 tracks on the chart and plays the tracks in the circle around your select mood!

Compatible Models: XAV-72BT, XAV-63 and 64BT.

Music to match your moodThere may be times when you want to sift and search through thousands of digital music files. But when you’re driving is not one of those times. Playlists are nice for organizing your music, but playlists quickly grow old. Shuffle play is fine, for what it is, but it’s completely random — and unrelated to your mood.

That’s why Sony invented SensMe™ technology. Like a music concierge, the SensMe features arrange your music files by mood and serve them up accordingly. The technology is impressive. And the results are amazing.

Compatible Models: XAV-701HD, XAV-601BT, XAV-72BT, XAV-64BT, XAV-63, DSX-S310BTX, DSX-S210X and CDX-GT660UP.

Overshoot at the leading edge of a high-frequency square wave indicates poor high-frequency uniformity in a conventional amp. It’s a sign of sonic trouble.

Sony’s Dynamic Reality Amp is far more accurate.

Audio Technology

Sony breaks new sound barriersSony makes high-end performance accessible to the rest of us. It’s a cost-performance breakthrough made possible by two landmark integrated circuits — our exclusive Advanced Sound Engine and Dynamic Reality Amp. Sony receivers with these circuits are destined to exceed the expectations of their delighted owners.

Dynamic Reality Amp: Power meets delicacySome people act as if loudness is the whole point of aftermarket Mobile Audio. At Sony, we love music and like to crank it up as much as anyone but we insist on hearing it the right way. That means low distortion, low noise and smooth frequency response. Our latest power IC, the Dynamic Reality Amp, establishes a new benchmark for in-dash amplification over our previous chip.

> 27% lower transistor-to-frame resistance helps Sony reduce distortion and maintain fidelity to the original source.

> 20% lower noise speaks for itself. Your music isn’t merely loud. It’s also clean.

> Flat response to super-high frequencies provides smoother sound, without the distortions that can make cymbals and other high-frequency transient sources difficult to enjoy.

Audio Technology Audio Technology

Advanced Sound EngineJust as the engine makes the difference in your car, the Advanced Sound Engine makes the difference in Mobile entertainment. This Sony® integrated circuit enables us to offer sophisticated Digital Signal Processing (DSP) at surprisingly affordable prices. The benefits go beyond equalization to include proprietary Dynamic Loudness, our original Rear Bass Enhancer, plus Time Alignment and super-flexible active crossover. Sony’s Advanced Sound Engine combines extraordinary fidelity with extreme impact.

Listening PositionAt home, you’re free to sit where you’ll hear the best sound. In the car, you’re not free at all. For example, the driver has no choice but to sit way too close to the front-left speaker. Sony compensates with the digital delay system we call Listening Position. By selectively delaying the channels, Sony aligns the arrival time for ideal sound. Independent settings for subwoofer and full-range speakers put you in complete control.

Center Speaker OrganizerNow you don’t need a center channel speaker to enjoy proper playback of 5.1-channel DVD sound tracks. Sony’s Center Speaker Organizer (CSO) performs “downmixing.” The circuit decodes the Center channel and mixes it into the Left-Front and Right-Front, creating a virtual Center speaker of high performance.

Rear Bass EnhancerIf your system doesn’t include subwoofers, Sony has the next best thing. The Rear Bass Enhancer will direct the bass to the rear speakers only, then give that bass an extra boost, to deliver sound with authority.

4-22

full rangefull range

bass

CSO downmixes the Center channel to the Left-Front and Right-Front speakers.

CSO Processing CSO ResultThe result is a high-performance virtual Center channel speaker. Other channels not influenced by CSO (independent)

Dynamic LoudnessWhen music playback is soft, the sound gets unnaturally “thin.” That’s because human hearing is far less sensitive to deep bass and extreme highs when the volume is low. The Loudness circuit was invented to correct this equalization imbalance. Loudness boosts the frequency extremes whenever the Volume control is turned down. Unfortunately, conventional Loudness can’t take the program dynamics into account. But Sony’s Dynamic Loudness can. It considers both the Volume setting and the dynamics of the content. You get powerful, natural sound at all settings of the volume control.

Automatic Level OptimizerWhen do you use the Volume control — and why? Chances are you reach for the Volume when you switch sources, for example, between the radio and a digital music player. That’s when a sudden blast of sound can surprise you, distract you and get you reaching.

Sony has a better way. Automatic Level Optimizer is a value-added feature of Sony’s exclusive Advanced Sound Engine. The system analyzes the audio level of each source you select — and each digital file you play. And it automatically adjusts the level to prevent sonic surprises. For the driver, this means less need to fumble for the volume control. For everyone else, it means a smoother, more enjoyable audio experience.

Audio Technology

Built-in HPF/LPF CrossoverFull-range speakers may be okay for “factory radio” systems, but they have major limitations. For one, full-range speakers can’t produce really low bass the way subwoofers can. And as the amplifier tries to push bass through full-range speakers, the treble distorts. That’s why advanced audio systems use multiple, specialized speakers, including subwoofers, mids and tweeters. And that’s why Sony® receivers have built-in active crossovers. The high-pass filter (HPF) strips out the bass and sends the audio signal to the internal amplifier or to the RCA outputs if you're using an external amp. The low pass filter (LPF) sends just the low bass to a subwoofer amp.

Audio Technology

EQ3 Equalization In the old days, your only way to adjust tone quality was the bass and treble knobs. Sony equalization goes light years beyond, with discrete bands of equalization. The result is far more sensitive, supple control. Parametric models even let you select the frequency bands, for even greater sound control.

EQ3 Stage 2 — Three frequency bands (60, 1,000 and 10,000 Hz) with ±10 dB adjustment. Models: CDX-GT260MP, CDX-GT360MP, CDX-GT700HD, CDX-HS70MW, CDX-H910UI, CDX-M10, CDX-M20, CDX-M60UI, DSX-MS60, DSX-S100 and MEXBT3000P

Adjustable crossover SlopeSony’s Advanced Sound Engine takes the concept even further with a crossover that’s not only active, but digital as well. For maximum impact, you want separate amplifiers for your subwoofers and full-range speakers. For maximum sound quality, the sophisticated Digital Sound Processing (DSP) built into the Advanced Sound Engine circuit provides you with a choice of mild, moderate or aggressive crossover slopes (6, 12, or 18 dB per octave).

You can precisely divide the frequency range with the digital high-pass filter (HPF) and low-pass filter (LPF) with selectable frequencies at 50, 60, 80, 100 or 120 Hz and set the adjustable crossover slope to perfectly match the needs of your speakers. There’s even a selectable subwoofer phase mode to optimize your subwoofers presence. Selectable crossover slopes are available on select 2012 models (CDX-GT-40U, CDX-GT56UI, CDX-GT565UP, CDX-GT660UP, DSX-S210X, DSX-S310BTX, MEX-BT4000P and MEX-DV-1700U).

EQ7 Parametric EqualizationIn the beginning, you could only control the frequency balance of your music with simple bass and treble adjustments. Three-band equalizers were a big step forward, adding control over midrange frequencies. Sony has gone even further with EQ7 and EQ7 Parametric. EQ7 provides 7 independent bands of adjustment while EQ7 Parametric provides 7 selectable bands of equalization. And enjoy six factory preset EQ curves, plus a seventh custom curve for your own settings.

Digital Music Plus As good as they are, today’s digital music players use compressed codecs that can’t match the sound quality of a studio master recording. For this reason, Sony developed the Digital Music Plus (DM+) circuitry to analyze the music content and optimize frequency response, phase and vocal harmonics. Users can engage the circuitry to hear the effect and enjoy clearer sound from their compressed audio files.

Comprehensive CodecsHow's this for peace and harmony? Sony builds receivers that accept just about every digital audio codec and format you'd want on the highway. This most certainly includes MP3, WMA and AAC1 — the codecs popular in most digital music players. Just plug in and play. It's easy and there's no messy file conversion or re-recording.

Drive-S Audio StageTo hear how good a Mobile Audio system can be, slip a favorite Compact Disc into a receiver with Sony's Drive-S audio stage.

> Upgraded CD transport mechanism with integrated shock dampening and enhanced drive servo for faster tracking speeds.

> Silicon-on-insulator MOSFET power ICs improve transient response and reduce crosstalk.

> World class signal-to-noise ratios of 120 dB.

Configurable Preamp OutputsSony receivers deliver high power — 52 watts x4 — but we don’t stop there. Preamp outputs let you expand your system with external amplifiers to really power up your ride. You can use the receiver's built-in amplifier for the front speakers and go with external amps for subwoofers and rears. Or go full-on custom with a complete set of outboard amps.

Digital Clarity TunerSony receivers are known for exceptional tuning. And we’ve made them even better. Our latest generation of receivers boasts better signal-to-noise ratios, lower interference, better multipath rejection and better stereo separation. It all adds up to immaculate reception.

Radio Data System (RDS)MP3 players have artist and album title displays. So does Sirius™ / XM™ satellite radio. Now FM stations can have it too. The Radio Data System (RDS) enables artist and title information to accompany the FM broadcast. Select Sony receivers automatically display the information.

AmplifiersWhen it comes to giving you a good kick in the pants, there's no substitute for Sony® amplifiers. Flexible output configurations fit your needs from one channel of power to many. With audiophile output stages, your music isn’t just loud, it’s also clear. And sophisticated input level, crossover and low boost adjustments enable you to optimize the sound for your choice of speakers.

Am

plifiers

6-36-2

Channel Flexibility Ask any audiophile or mobile audio expert. You'll hear that "bridging" a pair of amplifier channels results in a single channel of roughly twice the power. Many of today's best systems take advantage of this high power technology. That's why all Sony® multi-channel amps can be bridged for maximum flexibility.

Internal CrossoverTo get the full benefit of your speakers, you’ll need to send them the appropriate musical frequencies. That’s why our amplifiers offer internal crossovers. A crossover consists of two filters: the High Pass Filter (HPF) sends everything but the deepest bass to full-range speakers while the Low Pass Filter (LPF) sends only the deep bass to the subwoofers. Filter adjustments enable you to set the frequency at which the music "crosses over" from full-range speakers to subwoofer. A separate bass boost adjustment enables you to optimize the bass for your specific choice of subwoofer.

High Level Inputs The best way to connect an amplifier is called "line level" or "preamp output." This uses audio cables with the familiar white and red RCA jacks. But what if you're using a factory radio that doesn't have preamp outputs? Sony amplifiers come to the rescue with high-level inputs. Simply connect the speaker outputs of your receiver to the high-level inputs of the amplifier. Auto sensing will even switch the amplifier on automatically whenever the head unit is on.

Amplifier Technology Amplifier Technology

Sony 4/3/2-Channel ampsSony takes channel bridging one step further with 4-channel amps that enable both pairs to be bridged. The result is a 2-channel amp of extraordinary power.

Sony Class D Mono AmpsThese subwoofer specialists are the only Sony Mobile amps that can't be bridged, because they only have 1-channel.

Sony 4/3-Channel AmpsAll our 4-channel amps can drive four full-range speakers. Or you can bridge to drive two full-range speakers and a subwoofer.

Sony 2/1-Channel AmpsOur 2-channel amps can drive a stereo pair of speakers or be bridged to deliver a single channel of roughly twice the power. It's a good choice for driving a subwoofer.

To sub or not to sub One of the glories of custom mobile audio is a big amplifier driving a subwoofer. Freed from the responsibility of reproducing midrange and treble sound — the “sub” generates nothing but deep bass. The results can be spectacular, pumping out lows with a volume and realism that rivals the live concert experience. As in home theater systems, a single subwoofer can perform well because deep bass is not “directional.” The human auditory system can't tell where the bass is coming from.

Dynamic Distortion Suppressor When conventional amps are driven too hard, they “clip” off the signal peaks, sending masses of distortion to the speakers. The Dynamic Distortion Suppressor of Sony's XM-GS100 and XM-ZZR3301 reduces peaks without clipping them harshly. So distortion is substantially reduced.

Class D Amplification"Powerful" doesn't have to mean “big,” “heavy” or “hot.” Conventional Class AB amplifiers only manage to convert 50 to 60% of incoming power into output to the speakers. The rest gets dissipated as heat. At 90%, Sony's Class D amplification is far more efficient than traditional Class AB amplifiers. As a result, the XM-GS100, XM-1S and XM-ZZR3301 deliver incredible power without filling up — or heating up — your trunk. These Class D amps are designed or subwoofer use only.

Active Thermal ControlWhen the going gets hot, conventional thermal control simply shuts your amp down until it's cool. Sony's XM-GS100 and XM-ZZR3301 have a better way. Active Thermal Control automatically lowers the output until it's safe to return to normal operation.

SpeakersThe tweeters create a soundstage that appears to float in midair. The midranges reproduce the human voice with the presence of a live concert. The subwoofers deliver the deepest bass drums with an impact you can feel on every kick. This is the way mobile audio ought to sound — and does — with our Mobile speakers.

Subwoofer ConfigurationsSony single and dual-voice coil subwoofers enable you to configure systems of awesome power. For example,

“bridging” a stereo amplifier to drive a single subwoofer results in nearly twice the power. In addition, wiring a pair of 4-ohm subwoofers in parallel results in a 2-ohm load, into which Sony® Class-D amplifiers will also deliver roughly twice the power. With Sony amps and subwoofers, the power is yours.

Mica Reinforced Cellular Glass Fiber Cone Select DVC subwoofer cones are constructed using a woven glass fiber reinforced with a mica cellular composite to provide a super rigid cone for better response. (XS-GS120LD & XS-GS120L only)

Interwoven Lead Wires To maximize ruggedness and minimize acoustic interference, Sony has actually woven the voice coil lead wires into the subwoofer's spider.

DVC Wiring OptionsWiring a dual voice coil subwoofer in parallel (left) results in a 2-ohm load, a good choice for increased power with Sony Class D amplifiers. Wiring in series (right) results in an 8-ohm load, a good choice when you're wiring multiple pairs of drivers to an amplifier.

Speaker Features & Technologies

HOP and Aramid/Carbon Fiber Matrix DiaphragmsSony’s patented Highly Oriented Polyolefine (HOP) has been hailed by autosound enthusiasts for bass that’s tight, accurate and powerful. This year, selected speakers go even further, embedding HOP in a unique matrix with Aramid and Carbon fibers. Together the three materials suppress diaphragm resonance and minimize distortion — not only in the lows, but also the mid and high frequencies. The result is sound that’s powerful at all frequencies and uncommonly clean — even when you’ve got the volume cranked up.

Tweater Adjustments Unlike deep bass, highs are "directional." That's why Sony mounted the tweeter of the XS-GS1720 at a 10o angle. And that's why you can rotate the tweeter mount 270o. So you get clear, powerful highs whether you mount the speaker on a rear shelf or at the bottom of a door.

CrossoversSony® speakers use passive crossovers to separate the frequency bands for woofers and tweeters. These carefully designed crossover networks lower distortion by providing each driver with only the correct frequencies.

Seaworthy entertainmentReliable operation on the sea is no accident. It’s the result of detailed engineering, which uses silicone rubber, circuit board coatings, UV-resistant finishes and more.

Marine Audio Technology Marine Audio Technology

Not just splash proof: Meets IPx5 RequirementsNot all marine audio systems are as tough as this. Imagine pointing hoses at an audio component. Now imagine turning the water on and letting loose a gusher of gallons per minute — for three full minutes. That's the requirement of IPx5, the international standard met by Sony splash proof Marine receivers and controllers.14 Compatible Models: CDX-HS70MW, CDX-H910UI, RM-X60M/L.

Rigorously tested to resist salt sprayIf you live on the coasts, splashing is not the only threat to your equipment. Salt spray is amazingly corrosive. That's why the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) created the B117 torture test for salt spray. Select Sony Marine head units, controllers and speakers pass the test, for superb durability.

See product specifications for certification results.

Anti-corrosion coated circuit boardsYou can't see inside Sony Marine products. But when you're out on the water, humidity can get inside, causing rust that can undermine reliability. That's why Sony uses conformal coated circuit boards. All Sony Marine products, including amplifiers are safeguarded by HAYA high humidity resistant vinyl resin. It's the same compound that protects the circuit boards of outdoor traffic safety equipment.

Also tested to withstand sunlightJust as you can get sunburned, the finishes on your equipment can fade, crack and peel after prolonged exposure to sunlight. And just as with sunburn, ultraviolet (UV) light is the biggest culprit. The finishes on Sony Marine head units, controllers and speakers are specifically designed to withstand another ASTM test: G154 for UV resistance.

Ergonomic DesignWhen the throttle is open and the boat is bouncing, you'll appreciate Sony's front panel layout. Large, widely-spaced buttons make it easy to control your entertainment.

USB 1-wire Hear all your songs on all your outings. Sony’s USB 1-wire interface lets you connect, control and even charge your iPod,®4 Walkman® player, and other USB devices.2

Resists Salt Spray Whether you're into freshwater or saltwater boating, Sony Marine Audio is built to take it.

Splash ProofWe don't just claim splash resistance, we confirm it through rigorous IPx5 testing!14

Resists UV RaysSony® Marine Audio units are built to maintain their good looks, even after prolonged exposure to the sun.

Bright, Easy-to-Read DisplayThe cockpit of a boat is not a living room.Sony displays are designed to remain legible in direct sunlight.

Qualifying Your CustomerFew techniques on the sales floor are quite as powerful as qualifying your customer. After you've said hello and introduced yourself, ask for the customer's name. Then use their name and ask the right questions about the customer's needs. By asking questions, you'll be accomplishing many things at once:

1. You'll be demonstrating that you're sincerely interested inthe customer's needs. This will inspire the customer to trust you more. And it's not even an act. You really are interested, because...

2. You'll be gathering all the information you need to make a smart recommendation, and...

3. You’ll have exactly what you need to close the sale. When you describe the system, be sure to repeat what the customer told you, as in, “You told me you really liked the idea of Pandora® internet radio control. So I’m recommending a Sony receiver that controls Pandora streaming and displays Pandora track and artist names...”
