HALAL STATEMENT CATERING AT MOAT All food provided by Moat Community College is halal (permissible). Vegetables, pulses, grains and fish are halal by nature. All meat products are purchased from suppliers with halal certification (see Further Information at end of this document for supplier and halal authority information) and prepared in a kitchen which is not used for haram (impermissible) food preparation. No Genetically Modified (GM) food is used at the college. GOVERNMENT REGULATION The Welfare of Animals (Slaughter or Killing) Regulations 1995 state that all animals slaughtered in the UK should be fully stunned to the point of insensibility before slaughter and until death. A dispensation exists in the legislation for animals slaughtered for Halal and Kosher meat which states that these animals are not required to be stunned. Schedule 12 Part 1 Section 2 of the legislation allows that animals need not be stunned if it is for the food of Muslims. No pork or pork by-products are held on site or allowed in food preparation areas.
