Berlin is Germany’s capital with a sizeable Muslim population. Despite the presence of several Islamic institutions in the city, there are still pressing needs for more facilities to serve the growing community.

The existing institutions focus on classical mosque activities. We ur-gently more welfare structures for the Muslims in Berlin, especially for reverts/new Muslims, young children, old, people, mentally ill and sick people, destitute Muslims and those who came into conflict with the law.

With more Muslim social help centres, we are confident that such so-cial problems amongst Muslims will be alleviated.

Why the need for an Islamic Center?

The I.U.G. is a Berlin registered NGO since 1981 Many members are German but also from other nationalities

Aim is to engage in Dawa, to establish educational Islamic facilities ,to provide so-cial aid for Muslims in need Activities include: teaching of Islamic knowledge, Arabic, regular gatherings for re-membrance and study circles, seminars, counselling for individuals, social support for people, families in need, food and clothing distribution

The I.U.G. /Islamische Ummah

To develop and strengthen the beautiful identity as Muslim, Mu'min

To re-establish the awe, admiration and inspiration for Islam and Muslims

To improve the overall situation of Muslims in our city

Progress Report

When we bought the 100 year old building in 2003, it had not been habituated for more than 10 years and was in a disastrous condition.

We started a thorough renovation which has not yet been completed due to lacking funds.

However major important renovation has been done, like the entire renewal of the roof, the exter-nal isolation, plastering and paint, the renewal of windows, the control and replacement of wooden poles in the ceiling, anti-fungus treatment and the almost-done renovation of one apartment.

Outstanding are the entire plumbing and elec-tricity pipes and cables, the division of the units, bathrooms, toilets, Wudu' places, internal plaster-ing, as well as painting the entire staircase, base-ment, heating system, doors, fencing, pavements and garden.

We are planning to break up the renovation into smaller steps.

In the next months we would like to renovate the 2 flats in the basement, the staircase of the entire building and get the outdoor area more attractive and neat.

Renovation from 2010-2013

Once the renovation is done we will run a kindergarden from there and start with the gatherings.

For this part of renovation we do need at least 50 000 euro.
