See you at the Minnesota Milk Dairy Conference & Expo Dec. 2-4

    Harris Dairy Inc.Sandstone, Minn.Pine County250 cows

How many times have you attended Midwest Dairy Expo? Ten years or more.

What is the main reason you attend? To get new ideas and to look at machinery.

How has attending MDE benefi tted you and your dairy farm? I have gotten a lot of new ideas. When we built our new barn, we saved a lot of money on our freestalls and milking system because we talked to dealers directly at the Expo. We looked at new machinery and got new ideas from feed guys. We always come back with a lot of literature.

Who has been the best speaker you have heard at MDE? We haven't been able to

Bob Harris Why do you attend Expo?

make it on time for the speakers. But we hope to get to some this year.

Tell us about your farm. I farm with my son, Nick. We milk cows in a parallel, double-12 parlor. We farm 500 acres and raise corn and alfalfa for the cows. I've been farming for 42 years.

    Because friendly still counts.

For the Hackett family, successful farming has always been about

strong connections to the land, each other, and their network

of trusted partners. Now, as ownership passes from father to son,

those relationships are more important than ever.

The Hacketts thriving 900-acre operation is a result of long-term

commitment, vision, and trust qualities they sought in a lender

as well. And as a lender with roots in farming, they discovered an

advocate who saw their potential and treats them, well, like family.

If youre ready to start or grow your business,

    were eager to listen.

we are paid on the federal order of components system. The prediction of Money Corrected Milk differs, though, based on how youre paid for your milk. This index adjusts cow production to the economic value of milk that cow produces, not just total milk per cow. As most dairy producers know, components are hugely valuable. Looking at raw milk per cow is a bit deceiving as to how good, or bad, a cow may be. If we just use raw milk, we could be making a huge mistake. Money corrected milk is the perfect answer to perfecting this, Bethard said. Applying the principles of Money Corrected Milk can pertain to any dairy. It doesnt matter what color the cow or size of the dairy, Bethard said. It can apply to every dairy; most dairies are interested in ranking their cows and nding which cows are most productive, in order to cull the poor and keep the better ones. This is a better expression of productivity of the cow. More on Bethard A native of New Jersey, Bethard received his BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees from Virginia Tech in dairy nutrition and management. Following graduate school, he worked on the faculty at New Mexico State University and then as a technical services specialist for Monsanto Dairy Business. From 2009 through 2014, Greg worked at DRMS at North Carolina State University in dairy software development. Since 2000, Greg, along with wife, Rachel, has operated G&R Dairy Consulting, Inc., an international dairy consulting rm focusing on nutrition, facilities, management, business and nancial services. In 2014, Greg became CFO for Pagels Ponderosa Dairy, LLC, in Kewaunee, Wis., Dairy Dreams, LLC in Casco, Wis., and Rons Wisconsin Cheese in Luxemburg, Wis. Greg has published articles in the Journal of Dairy Science and written articles for various dairy industry magazines. He has also given presentations to dairy producers and allied industry around the globe.

We called Stray Voltage Consulting, and Jerry found the problem within half an hour. Roger said. I was very impressed with Jerry. Hes a former REA guy, so he understands both the farmer and the electric company. Being able to work with both sides is a key component to his success. I havent had a single problem with our fresh heifers since Jerry corrected our stray voltage problem. I would highly recommend Stray Voltage Consulting to anyone who thinks they might have stray voltage!

How many times have you attended the Midwest Dairy Expo? I have attended the expo 10 times.

What is the main reason you attend? I like to attend the dairy classes and also check out the booths.

How has attending MDE benefi tted you and your dairy farm? Our milk production has increased because of the way we feed all of the cattle.

Who has been the best speaker you have heard Midwest Dairy Expo? David Kohl is the best one because he is fun to listen to. He gives you a good game plan for the past and future market of dairy farming.

Ted Grangroth Why do you attend Expo?

Tell us about your farm. We farm about 120 acres, which includes 80 acres of alfalfa and 40 acres of corn for corn silage. I buy all of my corn and some dry hay. I have

a freestall barn with a milking parlor. I raise all my heifer calves and see the bull calves at about 10 days old. My wife, Sally, and I have fi ve children, Josh (28), Amber (27), Sheila

(25), Sam (18) and Wyatt (16), a daughter-in-law, Eva, and two granddaughters, Emma and Mallie. Josh and Wyatt help on the farm
