• Sometimes being at the top is not the best!

–Minnesota has the 3rd highest unintentional fall death rate in the country.

–Falls are the #1 cause of all trauma care in Minnesota hospitals.

–Falls are a major public health concern.

MNFPI: Vision, Objectives

• Older Minnesotans will have fewer falls and fall-related injuries, maximizing their independence and quality of life.

– increase awareness of the prevalence and risk factors for falls

– increase assessment of fall risk

– increase the availability of evidence-based fall prevention interventions statewide

– increase access to these interventions

– enhance quality assurance efforts related to fall prevention
