While, I was thinking about today’s topic on theimportance of presentation I started wondering how theSabarmati ka sant could negotiate freedom for Indiawithout any necktie or wearing the suit or any basicpresentation skills.

What I could understand was that this simple man whowas undisputedly the world leader of the millenniumhad very simple approach – sincerity and truthfulness.

We hope that the audience today would get an insightas to how the sales man prepares while negotiating fora contract. The presentations are tailor made keeping inview the customer as well as well the end use orapplication for which the product is required.

The sales man would learn some skills whereas apurchaser would be able to see the hidden things moreclearly from today’s talk.

A small formality about introducing the speaker who isotherwise well known in the professional circle.

CEO: Sales Persons become CEO if they Aspire & Perspire.Say every morning “I am CEO Material.”

Attributes of Successful Sales Person

They Set Big Goals: They don’t wait for their Boss orCompany to fix Sales Goals for them. They take ProactiveApproach and set Challenging Goals based on theirMarket Intelligence and Gut Feeling. They make suretheir goals are specific, self-motivational, achievable yetchallenging & Goals without time tag has no meaning. They visualize their target, and lay path for itsachievement.

They have Focus: Focused Salesperson are internallydriven to accomplish envisaged goals and demanding ofthemselves and are Self-Motivated, to achieve theirgoals.

They are able to organize themselves and recognize whatneeds to be done in market place. Focus produces bestresults when it is backed by detailed action plan. (Focuscan be Customer Specific, Launch of New Product orWinning Key Account)

They are Persistent: Salesperson have to be ThickSkinned. They are going to become very familiar withthe word “no”. They have to be confident andpersistent if they want to remain in Sales Playground.

They have to overcome various Gate Keepers who willact as barrier.

They Demonstrate Value of their Product / Service:Successful Sales person know that a well-informed buyerwill usually base much of His/her decision on the valueproposition presented by the Sales Person. They knowhow to create this value with each customer, prospect,or buyer they encounter. Too many sales people thinkthat price is the only motivating buying factor. Top SalesPersons recognize that price is a factor in every sale butthey know that it is seldom the primary reason someonemakes their decision.

They Take Initiative: Sales Persons devise their ownaction plans. They’re go-getters and take matters intotheir own hands. If something has to be sold, they knowthere is a way to do it. Salesperson will do what it takesto sell the product. Learn to like the product &compliment it in given situation.

Patience and Perseverance: Salesperson comes acrossdifferent type of customers. Some of them purchasenothing but waste time by asking irrelevant questionsabout the products. Under such circumstances, he shouldnot lose his patience but give patient hearing to thecustomers.

He should not get tired with his customers .He shouldtry to convince them. Customer is supreme for him andhe should not leave any stone unturned to give fullsatisfaction to customers.

Page 4: MMR Oct 2016 - Branch News

Materials Management Review40 October 2016

They are Optimistic: Salesperson with healthy amountof optimism does not accept helplessness. Salespersonshave persistence—a trait that is critical in the sales worldbecause of the frequency of rejections salespersonsexperience.

In event of losing a transaction, some people throw theirhands up in the air and resign themselves to thedisappointment because they feel helpless in givensituation. They do not construe customer’s refusal asrejection of himself or herself personally.

Salespeople who possess a large amount of optimismlike themselves and when they encounter failure, although disappointed, it does not destroy their positiveview of themselves. They consider themselves still inthe running and able to turn the situation around. Theybelieve that they can make things better by using adifferent approach, or by trying again.

They are Confident: All great Salespersons haveconfidence on their product and themselves. If you don’tbelieve in your product, you aren’t going to make acustomer believe in your submission. If you canconfidently explain how your product or service is goingto contribute in customer’s business , then you’ve gotthe customer in the palm of your hand.

They are Resilient: Top Salespersons have unique abilityto cope with difficulty, to negotiate obstacles, optimizeperformance in face of adversity. At the heart ofresilience is this fact: Top sales professionals are masterat denying that lost sale is a failure. They take rejectionas a personal challenge to succeed in next situation, introspect reasons for lost sale, and devise Plan B.

They are Responsible: Salesperson with a strong senseof responsibility do not place blame on other peoplewhen placed in a difficult situation. They get things doneand when obstacles arise, accepts any errors oromissions that have occurred. They do not get defensivenor do they try to blame situation on circumstances oron other people. Sales managers should strive to hiresuch persons.

They Network on A Continuous Basis: Ambitious salespersons do not miss any Networking opportunity.(Example of a person attending un related Besna’s ofHIGH Net worth Persons)

“Credit is yours and Debit is mine” is theme throughwhich he nurtures his Team Members.
