When people ask me what my favorite part of college is, I always reply with the
same answer with a lot of excitement; NEACURH! I never imagined going into
college and becoming so passionate about a moose and a student organization.
My love story begins with homesickness. My rst couple weeks were very hard
for me and my RA convinced me to be our oor president and everything fell
into place from there until I ended up on the RHA Executive Board.
I attended my rst NEACURH Conference at Faireld University for Mini No
Frills 2009 and it was a life changing experience. All of the excitement around
residence life and making student's experiences better cl icked something inside
of me and two weeks later I changed my major and decided I wanted to go to
grad school for higher education/student aairs, which I had no idea existed
before I attended Mini's. A month later, I ran for RHA President and attended
my rst NACURH Conference in Arizona. It was there that I realized the power
of NEACURH and how our region brings so much to NACURH as an
organization! Now I am in my second year on the Regional Board of Directors
and I am head of heals in love with the people and Marty even more.
I could go on for forever with story after story of how I fell in love with
NEACURH, but the real story is WHY?!? This organization has changed my life
and helped me be a better person and nd my true passion; student aairs!
All of the leadership opportunities I have been a part of have made me the
leader I am today and I am forever thankful for committees, boardrooms,
programming sessions, Monthly Moose Callings, OTM's, and Roll Calls. The icing
on the wedding cake of my love for NEACURH are the people. Students are
what keeps me going day after day and the passion I see in this organization isincredible and contagious! I have made the best of friends throughout my past
4 years of involvement and they are friendships that will never end. I am
condent that 10, 20, and maybe even 50 years from now I will write "I miss
NEACURH" on my Facebook and cry a little when a delegate I met or RBD
member I worked with "likes" my post or comments back "me too" and then we
reect on the moosetastic memories we have been given.

I've fallen in love
with NEACURH
because of the
community and
family I've beenadopted into full

I feel in love with NEACURH through the
ability to meet such a large group ofpeople and within 2 cheers feel as
though I have known them forever and
truly know that they look at you for who
you are and not what you look like or
how loud you are screaming.
-Grin Labbance
I love NEACURH because of the amazing moose
lovers out there that make you feel that you havebeen friend with them for a long time. I also love
NEACURH because of the spirit it brings and that
you can bring back to your campus.

NEACURH FUN FACT:Within the past 5 years, weve had two NEACURH
Directors become the Naonal Chairperson
I have fallen in love with RHA because
they welcome everyone with open arms. I
am a new advisor this year and am having a wonderful time learning
all about RHA, NEACURH, NRHH, and especially Marty the Moose. Iam so excited to go to conference and learn even more.
- Lisa Rakowitz, PACE RD and RHA Advisor
There are so many reasons of why I have fallen in love with NEACURH!NEACURH has provided me with so many new experiences that have
helped me grow to be the person I am today. By allowing to step
outside of my comfort zone, make decisions that aect people in a
positive way on a larger scale, grow as a leader, and work on
professional and personal skills, NEACURH has truly made a huge
dierence in my life. But I could not forget to mention the friendships
and bonds I have made throughout my entire NEACURH journey. I will
never forget them and am grateful for having met them in such an
amazing environment where we are all passionate about the same
thing!
John Rodriguez RCC Recruitment and Retention
RHA is the one thing that has always stayed consistent in
my life. I have had numerous people just pick up and
leave me, but at the end of the day, I always had RHA.
When I found NEACURH at NACURH 2009, I couldnt
believe how much love and joy I was able to experience.
Ever since, the spirit of NEACURH is infused into my
everyday life. I have fallen in love with NEACURH due to
the spirit, love and compassion our region exudes, and I
am so proud to say I was able to not only experience
NEACURH but live, breathe and enjoy NEACURH.

As a relatively shy person (it's hard to believe, I know)
going to any conference was hard. I would have to step outside
of my comfort zone to make friends and I would have to CHEER?!?
My rst conference was NACURH 2009 and let me tell you, it was an
eye opening experience. Never had I seen so many people get together for acommon cause, share my passions and have so much fun! At this conference, to push myself
and my delegation to meet new people, we had a contest to see who could get the most
clothespins and in the process we got to meet so many awesome people. You probably think I'm going on a
tangent right now, but that is not the case.
Many people would say that they love NEACURH and NACURH for the spirit, the enthusiasm, the
cheering. While, yes, I love those things and they rst made me love NEACURH and NACURH I have come to
love a couple of other things as well! The rst of those is the passion, every person that attends conference
is there for two common goals: to better themselves and to better their school. These two goals shape
everything that we as an organization do and is an underlying theme for every conference and meeting. From
sitting in boardroom for 6 hours, to presenting programs, to attending a keynote speaker You all are there to
LEARN about yourselves and thereby your organizations. The next this I love about NEACURH is the
unconditional support. I have never met such a diverse group of people that look past all of their dierences
and make sure that the others within the group succeed. Although I love SO MANY MORE things about
NEACURH the last thing for this article is that I absolutely love all of you. Each of you bring something unique
and special to the organization and we are the region that we are because of all of you. Your dierent ideas
and background bring an amazing perspective to the region, one that we would surely be lacking without
you!
I fell in love with NEACURH roughly 4 years ago and in that time my love has grown, blossomed and
developed and that may not have been the case without each one of you! NEACURH is here to support you
and your development but also to give you that spark and motivation to do more and be more. NEACURH is
an unwaivering support system for each of you to fall back on and I hope you never lose your sense of
passion and determination wherever you go :)

Top Five Ways to
Advocate for Your
Residents:1.
Invite oces anddepartments to present and
get feedback at your general
body meetings (food,
maintenance, judicial aairs,
etc...)
2. Talk to your residents and ask
what types of things would
help improve theirexperiences at your school
3. Look through your
constitution and documents
to make sure you are using
inclusive language, such as
gender instead of sex
4. Collaborate with other
student organizations oncampus to work together on
common causes
5. Talk with other NEACURH
peeps to get ideas of what
types of advocacy projects
they are working on

Headrst into NEACURHThis past June, I had the amazing opportunity to attend the
NACURH conference hosted by Western Illinois University. I had
no idea what I
was getting
myself into
when I applied
for this
leadership
conference; Iwasnt even
sure what a
leadership
conference
was. I was a
general body
member of
RHA when I rst heard about NEACURH/NACURH and the conferences. A few
of my friends told me that I would be a great candidate for the conference, so I
applied not thinking much of it. Months later, I found myself in Moline, ILknowing almost nothing about NACURH/NEACURH, but being surrounded by an
amazing group of people, and an extraordinary organization, I couldnt help but
dive right into the NEACURH spirit. I really fell head rst into the NACURH/
NEACURH experience and I loved every moment. Now only a few months later,
Im one of Salem States co national communication coordinators. Maybe I took
too much responsibility after only having been to one conference, but its been
an amazing experience so far, especially because of the amount of support
coming from fellow RHA executive board members and advisors. Being a part of
this organization gives me a sense of purpose on campus and o. Knowing that
Im a part of my campus community AND my regional community really givesme a sense of pride. Im really looking forward to this year to show o my
moose pride!
