You may be asking yourself or others for that fact “..what exactly is a ‘Masquerade Party’?” Well, besides the obvious answer, it’s a reason to dress up, raise some money and a drink or two. In other words it’s a chance to have a Phun evening with your Phellow Parrot Heads and anyone else who might show up.

It’s an opportunity to see and hear our good Phriend Rick Lamb and the Phin Addicts playing live music.

Th is is our fi rst Masquerade Party so let’s pull out all the stops and make it a great one. Dress up, go all out, rent or make a costume. At least wear a mask (and we’re not talking about the dust kind). Don’t be the only person at the party without a costume - you really don’t want to win that prize.

You know that, this being a Parrot Head event, it’s going to be a great time. Plus the money raised goes to our local Shri-ners. So come out to the Akdar Shrine’s Hall (you know you’ve always wondered what the inside of that building looks like) April 2nd at 7:30 and join us!

Cathy Boley will be getting out the 1st

round of emails to past golfers with tour-nament information in the next few weeks. She will also start contacting sponsors that have contributed before to see if they will again this year.

We need everyone to pitch in and help get golfers, prizes, beer, and hole sponsors this year. And remember to keep track of the time you spend getting donations, as you can earn one point per each volunteer hour. Th ey can add up fast .

NOTICE! We are also looking for some-one to sponsor the lunch this year. John

Hedge has another event that day and won’t be able to cook. If anyone has a contact that might consider donating lunch for 150 people, please let Cathy know. It would be a tax deductible dona-tion for them. As all donations you get for the tournament are tax deductible.

Our illustrious President has put a chal-lenge out to all Tulsa Parrot Heads to wran-gle up at least one (1) hole sponsor, and a couple of prizes and/or beer.

Come on Pholks, let’s not let Cathy down. Get out there and get those donations.

Make her proud!

Motorcycle, Car andMotorcycle, Car and

Custom Semi-Truck ShowCustom Semi-Truck Show

Tulsa Chill

April 29th – May April 29th – May 1st1st“Th e Chill” / Kansas and Oklahoma’s largest indoor Motor-

cycle, Car and Custom Semi-Truck Shows! It is our pleasure to present to you the all new “Chill” event series for 2016.

“Th e Chill” is heading to Tulsa, Oklahoma for its 1st annu-al event April 29th – May 1st of 2016 and will be held at the River Spirit Expo located at 4145 East 21st, Tulsa, OK. We truly believe that the Oklahoma Motorcycle, Car and Custom Semi-Truck enthusiasts will love “Th e Chill” as much as we do!

Girls? Did we mention Girls??? Trust us on this one… “Th e Chill” is very well known for its swimsuit competi-tions, fashion shows and/or performances with some of the hottest girls around. Past events have included the T95 Rock Squad Girls, Hooters Swimsuit Competitions as well as the world famous Flaunt Girls!!!!

FUN for the whole Family!!Th e Tulsa Parrot Heads have agreed to ‘work’ the Tulsa Chill

Show so we are looking for volunteers to help out. What we will need from the Parrot Heads is more of a security issue. Mean-ing we will need someone working during the event to walk the event and to ensure that no one is messing with other people’s stuff so to speak. It’s more of a keeping an eye on people. We will probably only need two to four at any given time to keep an eye on things. You can schedule people to be there in whatever shift s you want.

We will get paid $8 an hour, and they will give us one check for the total time at the end of the show. We can designate what charity we want the money to go to. We will sign up people for 2 hour shift s and will need 2-4 people on each shift . Th e hours of the car show are Fri April 29 12pm to 10pm. Sat 10am to 10pm, and Sun 10am-4pm. Aft er your shift you are welcome to walk around the show if you want. Th is is not hard, and anyone can do it. Even if you are an old crip like your president.

Th is is a great opportunity to increase your ‘Volunteer Points’ - remember Fall 2016 is just around the corner and you wouldn’t want to miss Margaritaville’s Grand Opening would you?

For most of us, the trip to the ‘Ft Worth Stockyards’ started in the early ‘am’ Saturday morning as we headed south to OKC to catch Amtrak’s ‘Heartland Flyer’. Some Parrot Head’s opted to stay the night in OKC so they would be (supposedly) bright and chipper fi rst thing in the morning - oh well.

34 Tulsa Parrot Heads departed the OKC Train Depot/bomb shelter (the interior of their waiting room was a little abysmal)at 8:23am on the dot.

We were off ! Rock-eting our way to the Ft Worth Stockyards! But fi rst we had to make a few stops (Norman, Purcell and a few others) and listen to a few announcements concerning shoes and toes (?)and our general safety. But we were too busy playing ‘I pad Charades’, ‘Go Fish’ and drinking to let any of that aff ect us. Th e interior of the train was very comfortable and spacious - nothing at all

like the Hogwart’s train. And we had our own sec-tion too - almost the whole car. Towards the end of the trip the ‘Club Car’ started running low on beer - but we persevered.

Next Stop - Ft Worth, Texas! We arrived in Ft Worth right on time. Now the trick was getting from the depot to our hotel. In no time

at all the shuttles arrived and in two quick trips we all made it to the hotel. Aft er checking in most everyone was a little hungry so we walked across the street to the ‘Mercado

Juarez Cafe’ for some au-thentic Mexican food. Aft er lunch some folks went back to the hotel to freshen up and others headed straight down to the ‘Stockyard’ district.

Th e ‘Ft. Worth Stockyard’ district is basically just bars and gift shops with a few restaurants thrown in for good measure which, as you well know, is paradise for Parrot Heads! Aft er arriving on the main street it seemed as though the men

headed for the bars and the ladies took to the stores. We tried our best to hit every bar but I’m sure a few were missed. Th en there was

the ‘Longhorn Stampede!!’ down main street - which was actually more of a ‘shuf-fl e’ than a stampede - but entertaining none the less.

Every year Owasso Public Schools sends approximately 80 athletes and Unifi ed partners to participate in the Area and State Games.

Th e February raffl e was very well distributed if I do say so myself. Th ere were one or two tables that were luckier than others - but that’s to be expected. In this case I was sit-ting at one of the lucky ones for once.

Mardi Gras, Shrove Tuesday, or Fat Tuesday is a se-ries of Carnival celebrations beginning on or aft er the Christian feasts of the Epiphany and culminating on Ash Wednesday or the beginning of Lent.

If you poll a hundred people regard-ing the origin of Mardi Gras, ninety of them probably would say that Mar-di Gras began in New Orleans. Th e fi rst U.S. Mardi Gras celebration was actually in Mobile in 1699. Th e fi rst Mardi Gras parade was held there in 1837. Depending on who you ask, New Orleans still has the most famous celebrations, followed by Mobile with Galveston following close behind.

Galveston began its formal celebra-tions in 1867, complete with gala balls and lavish parades. Today the parades alternate between Th e Strand, Galveston’s equivalent to the French Quarter, and the Seawall. Th e Seawall

parades typically are held during the day and the pa-rades in the Strand begin in the early evening and con-

tinue into the night. One of the most famous parades in

Galveston is the Uptown Funky Um-brella Parade. It is held in the Strand. Carol and I and our friends Ed and Alice have participated in this revelry the past two years while doing our best to escape the winter tempera-tures of northeast Oklahoma. Th ere are plenty of beads and other things you associate with Mardi Gras, but for the most part, the celebrations are family-friendly.

Galveston and the surrounding area is well known for its cuisine with your choice of chain restaurants and “hole-in-wall joints.” Th ere are plenty

of dive bars as you would guess, the perfect place for a Parrot Head vacation.

Aft er dark everyone’s attention turned to food, so we all split up and headed for diff erent restaurants/steak

houses and fi lled our bel-lies. Lastly, we all some-how found our way back to the hotel - but don’t ask how.

Next morning we jumped (so to speak) on the bus and headed

home. Th e bus wasn’t as lively as the train but that’s to be expected. We stopped for lunch at a restaurant called ‘Babe’s’ in Sanger, Tx. for some of the best chicken you ever ‘et’. Aft er lunch and on our way again the bus made an unexpected stop (due

to a traffi c jam) at a road side Braums ice cream for a rest, a shake and a cone. Next and last stop was the OKC depot and then the drive back to Tulsa.

All in all we had a wonderful time. I would do it again in a sec-ond. Hopefully this will become a regular thing for the Tulsa Parrot Heads - hint, hint.
