STEP 1Planning your fence layout

• Whendesigningyourfencelayout,itisimportanttorememberthatyourfenceboundaryisonecontinuousloopofwire,startingatyourwall-mounttrans-mitter,formingaboundarylooparoundyourselectedareaandreturningbacktothetransmitter.

• Youwillneedtoallowroominyourplanfor8’–10’ofsignalareafromtheboundarywire.

• Donotruntheboundarywirewithin10’parallelofutilitylines.Utilitylinescancreateinterference.Haveutilitylinesmarkedpriortofencewireinstallation.

• Tomaintainaconsistentsignalfield,useagradualradiuswhenrunningthewirearoundcorners,asillustrated.Avoidhard90degreeangles.

STEP 2Selecting a transmitter location

• Selectalocationtohangyoursystemtransmitterthatisdryandindoorswithastandard110VACelectricaloutletnearby.Alocationinthegarageorutil-ityroomisusuallyideal.

• Whenselectingalocation,keepinmindthatthefencesystemwirewillrunfromyourtransmittertothewireboundaryoutdoors.Thiscanbedonethroughawindoworbydrillinga3/8thinchholeatthebaseofthewallforthewiretopassthrough.

Removethetransmitterhousingcoverbypressingyourthumbonthebottomofthecoverandliftingoff.Whenremoved,holdthebaseofthetransmitterhousingagainstthewallinthechosenlocationandmarkthelocationofthescrewholeswithapencil.

Usethesuppliedmountinghardwareandhangtransmitteronthewall.Replacethetransmitterhousingcoverbyplacingthecovertabsinbaseandpushingbottomhousingdown.

STEP 3Lay out your fence & wire connections

Itisimportanttolayoutyourboundarywireandtestyourfencingsystembeforeyouburythewire.Thisisarealtimesavershouldyouencounteraproblemwithyourinstallation.

1.Measuretheamountofdistancefromyourwall-mounttrans-mittertothebeginningofyourboundaryloopattheedgeofyouryard.Youwillneedtoruntwolengthsofwiretwistedtogethertothestartofyourboundaryloop.Twistingthewiretogethercancelstheradiosignalandallowsyourpettosafelycrossover.

2.Takingyourtwoequallengthsofwire,securetwoendstosomethingstableandpulloutontheotherends.Twistthetwopairsofwiretogetheruntilthereare8–12twistsperinch.Itismuchfastertosecuretwooftheendsinadrillandthedrillwilldothetwistingforyou.

3.Startingattheendofyourtwistedwire,runyoursinglestrandofwirearoundyourpropertyasyouhavedesigned,endingbackagainattheendofyourtwistedwire.

4.Twistoneendofyourbound-arylooptooneendofthetwistedwirewithawirenut.Repeatwiththeremaininglooseends.Usingthewaterproofsplices,pusheachwirenutasfardownintothegelaspossibleandsecurelid.Check to ensure that there are only two wires for each splice used.

PLEASE NOTE:Usingjustwirenutsorelectricaltapewillnotkeepmoisturefrominterferingwithyoursystem’sperformance.

5. Inserttheotherendsofyourtwistedwireinthewall-mounttransmitterasshown.Tightenscrewterminalstakingcarenottoovertighten.

6. Itisrecommendedthatyougroundyourtransmitter.Connectthegroundterminal(centerscrewwireconnec-tion)onthetransmittertoagroundrod(viaelectricalwire)locatedoutsideofthehousewithgroundrodmaterialanddepthasrecommendedbytheNationalElectricalCode.

ThealternativewayistoconnectthegroundterminalonthetransmittertothecenterscrewontheACoutletviaelectricalwire(centerscrewisground).Theoutletusedmustbegroundedtobeeffective.

Anexperiencedpetfencedealer,tvtechnicianorelectriciancanhelpshouldyouhaveconcernsregardingthepropergroundingofthisequipment.

STEP 4Testing your fence operation

Itisimportanttotestthatyoursystemisfunctioningproperlybeforeburyingtheboundarywire.Youwillbelookingtoen-surethatthefenceisactivatingproperlyattheboundarylocations,aswellaslook-ingforunwantedsignalsinthehouseandothersafeareasofthehome.

1. Installthesuppliedbatteryinyourpet’strainingcollar.Removethebatterycoverscrewcap,insertthebatteryandensurethatthepositiveendisclosesttothebatterycompartmentopen-ing.Replacethebatterycap.*Please note - the light on the collar should not be illuminated. If the collar light is flashing red the battery is low and needs to be replaced.

2.Ensurethatthefencewiresareproperlyinsertedintothewall-mounttransmitterandtheadapterisplugged intothesideofthetransmitterandwalloutlet.Thetransmitterdisplayshouldilluminate.

3.Holdthepet’strainingcollarbythenylonstrapasshownatapproximatelytheheightofyourpet’sneck.

4. Slowlyapproachyouroutsideboundaryloopwireandlistencarefullyforthewarningbeeps.Shouldyouhearthewarningbeeps,backupandtrydifferentpartsoftheboundaryareaensuringthatthecollarisactivatingproperlyinotherlocations.Ifthecollaractivatestoofar,ortoonearthefencewire,adjustthesignalfieldsetting(seeSTEP6).

5.Walkbackandforthoverthetwistedwirelisteningforanywarningbeeps.Thereshouldbenone.

6.Walkaroundthe“safe”areasoftheyardandhouselisteningforanywarn-ingbeeps.Again,thereshouldbenoresponsefromthepet’scollarwhenfurtherthan10’fromtheboundaryloop.

TROubLEShOOTING TIPSThecollarwillnotactivateatthebound-aryloop:

•Thetrainingcollar’sbatteryhasbeeninstalledintheproperorientationandthecaphasbeensecured.

•Thewall-mounttransmitterhasthewirethatrunsfromtheoutsideloopsecuredinthewireconnectorsandthetransmit-terispluggedintothewalloutlet.

•TheboundaryloopisconnectedtothetwistedwirerunningtoyourtransmitterusingthesuppliedwaterproofsplicesandthatthereisonlyTWOendsofwireinsertedintoeachsplice.

•Checktodetermineifyourpetfencesystemisinstalledincloseproximitytoaneighboringsystem.Ifso,seeSTEP6:SystemAdjustmentsandProgramming.

•Makesurethatyourcollarbatteryisgood.Ifthecollarlightisflashingredthebatteryislowandneedstobereplaced.

•Shouldyoucontinuetoencounter difficulties,pleasecallcustomercare at1-866-900-2007

Thecollaractivatesinsafeareasoftheyardorhome:

•Checkthatthewireisnotrunningclosetooutsideutilitylinesandmovewherenecessary.

• Movetheboundaryloopawayfromlargemetalobjectssuchasoutdoorshedsormetalfences.

• Movetheboundarywireawayfromthesideofthehouse.

• Turnthesignalstrengthdownonthewall-mounttransmitter.(SeeSTEP6:SystemAdjustmentsandProgramming)

STEP 5Burying the fence wire

Afteryouhavethefencewirepositionedonthetopofthegroundandaresatisfiedthatthefenceisfunctioningproperly,itistimetoburythewire.

• Startingwherethewireexitsyourhome,Useaflatedgespadeorgas-powerededgertocuta1”–3”trenchata45degreeangle.Atrenchcutonananglewillkeepthewiresecurewhenputinthegroundandwillhealfaster.

• Aftercompletingthetrenchingaroundyourboundaryloop,insertthewireinthetrenchandstepdowntosecurethewireintheground.Donotpullthewiretightinthetrench,leavingsomeslackforexpansionduetoheatingandcooling.

• Itishelpfultowateryourlawnafterinstallationandagainwalkoverthetrenchedareastofurthersecurethewireunderground.

Youmayencountersomeobstaclesthatwillneedtobecrossedduringyourinstal-lation.

• Whencrossingaconcretedriveway,cleanoutanexpansionjointwithascrewdriver,pushwireintotheslotandcoverwithaclearsiliconecaulk.

• Itisnecessarytocutatrenchinasphaltdrivewayswithacircularsawandmasonryblade.Placewireintrenchandcoverwithasphaltsealant.

• ThewirecanberunthroughPVCtubingoragardenhoseandleftontopofthegroundwhencrossingheavilywooded,rockareasorwhencrossingcreeksorstreams.ThePVCorgardenhosewillnotobstructthefenceradiosignal.

• Itisnotrecommendedthatyouleavethewireaboveground,unprotectedduetodamagebyweatherandwildanimals.

Testthesystemagainasdescribedinstep4.Thistime,testthefenceatintervalsof10feetandwhenyouhearthewarningbeep,placeaboundaryyardflag.Theboundaryflagswillbeavisualtrainingaideforyourpetduringthetrainingprocess.Theflagswillbegraduallyremovedafterthetwoweektrainingperiod.

Adjusting the Signal Field Width

PLEASE NOTE:Thenumberdisplayedonyourwall-mounttransmitterinitsnormal,activestateisNOT ThE STRENGTh OF CORRECTION OR COLLAR OuTPuT.Thisnumberrepresentsthesignalfieldarea.

Thesignalfieldsettingdeterminesthetotalcorrectionareaorhowfaryourdog’sfencingcollarwillactivatefromthefenc-ingwire.Yoursystemcomespresetfromthefactoryonsetting10,whichis10totalfeetor5feetfromthefencewire.Youcanadjustyoursystemeasilybypressingthetoporbottomtransmitterbuttonstoselectasettingbetween1and32.

Correction Level Programming PerimeterPetFencingSystemscomefactorypresetwithanautomaticadjustinglevelofcorrectionfromlowtohighde-pendingonyourpet’sspeedandproximitytotheboundarywire.TheUltraComfortContactsystemcanbeprogrammedtoanyoneof5differentoutputlevelsfrom

ExtraLighttohighdependingonyourdog’spersonalityandtemperament.Tochangethesystemcorrectionlevels:

STEP 1 – Pressandholdboththetopandbottombut-tons,markedSCROLLandSETonthewalltransmittersimultaneouslyfor3seconds.Thetransmitterdisplaywillshow“00”indicatingprogrammingmode.

STEP 2 – Releasebothtransmitterbuttons.PressandreleasetheSCROLLbuttontoselectdesiredcor-rectionsetting.Thetransmitterdisplaywillshowthecorrespondingnumberwitheachbuttonpush.

Radio Frequency ProgrammingThisprogrammingoptionallowstheusertoswitchtheoperatingfrequencyfrom7KHzto4KHzintheunlikelycaseofsignalinterferencefromsourcessuchasneigh-boringpetfencingsystems.Yoursystemhascomepresetfromthefactoryon7KHzwhereyouaremostlikelynottoencoun-terinterferenceissues.

Tochangeyourfrequencysettings:

STEP 1 – Pressandholdboththetopandbottombut-tonsmarkedSCROLLandSETonthewalltransmittersimultaneouslyfor6seconds.Thetransmitterdisplaywillfirstshow“00”forafterthreeseconds,continuetopressbothbuttonsforanother3secondstoenterfrequencymode.Either“01”or“02”willbedisplayedonthewallmounttransmitter.

STEP 7Training your pet

Pleasetakeyourtimetrainingyourdogandcompleteeachstepoftheprocesstoenjoyoptimalperformancefromyoursystem.Ifyouhavequestionsalongtheway,expertadviceisonlyacallaway(1-866-900-2007). Thegoaloffencetrainingistohelpyouteachyourdogtoidentifyandrespecthernewfence,tomakethetrainingfair—soyourdogwillunderstandtheconsequenc-esofleavingandtomakethetrainingfun—soyourdogwillenjoystayingandplayingonyourproperty.

CompletelytrustingyourdogwithhisPerimeterFencewilltakeplaceoverthecourseofabout3weeks.Thetrainingisasmallpartofthethreeweeks,therestofthetimeisjustclosesupervision.

Timeshouldbesetasidetoworkwithyourdogfor10-15minutes,twotimesperday.

Bothyouandyourdogwillappreciateshort,funlessonsandmakethetrainingmoreeffective.Therearesixphasestothetraininglessons:

LESSON 1: Backawayfromthefence!6 sessions

LESSON 2: RespecttheFence1 session

LESSON 3: Addinginterestingdistractions8 sessions

LESSON 1Back Away From the Fence!

Startthefirstphaseoftrain-ingwiththecollarcontactscoveredwiththesuppliedpostcov-ersthatareincludedwithyourPerimeterFence.Thisistoensurethatyourdogcanhearthewarningtoneattheboundary,butthereisnochanceofcorrection.Thepostcoverswillberemovedinphase2ofthetraining.

Puttheelectronictrainingcollaronyourdogandmakesurethewallmounttransmitteristurnedon.

Thefirstlessonistointroduceyourdogtotheboundaryandtohelpherunderstandtobackawayfromthefencewhenthewarningtoneisheard.

Withyourdogonalead,casuallywalktotheboundary.Whenthedogreachesthesignalfieldandhearsthewarningbeep,immediatelyspinaroundandbrisklyjogbackintotheyard.Thedogwillfeelthetugandrunafteryou.Praiseenthusiasti-cally.

Ondaystwoandthreerepeatthesamelessonindifferentpartsoftheyard.Asthetrainingsessionsofthenextthreedaysprogress,you’llseethatyourdogwillstart

toanticipatethesignalandretreatwithoutyourprompting.

Daythreeissuccessfulifyourdogretreatswithoutyourpromptingandrefusestoapproachtheboundaryasyouapproach.Foreachsuccessfulattemptbesuretopraise,praiseandpraiseagain.

LESSON 2 Respect the Fence

Althoughyourdogislearningfastandavoidingtheboundary,hewillforgetorattempttobreaktheruleswithaninterestingdistractionbeyondyouryard.Topreventthis,yourdogmustexperiencewhathappensifthefenceboundariesarenotrespected.

Forthenextlesson,youwillneedtoremovethepostcoversfromthetrainingcollarcontacts.

Withyourdogstillonalead,walktotheboundarywithyourdog.Haveahelperwalkontheoutsideofthefencearea.Thehelpershouldignoreyourdogandnevercoaxthedogoutofthefencedarea.

Yourdogwillmostlikelyforgetearlierles-sonsandattempttoleavethesafearea.Themomentyourdogreactstothefencecorrection,immediatelyretreattothesafepartoftheyardandlavishyourdogwithpraise.Pleasenote,itisveryimportantthatyourhelpernotstop,lookbackoracknowledgethedoginanyway.

LESSON 3Distractions

Ifyourdogisavoidingtheboundaryatmultiplelocationsaroundyourboundary,youarereadytoaddmoretemptingdis-tractions.Remember,neverpullorcoaxyourdogintotheboundaryarea.

Thislessonteachesyourdogthathemustresistalltemptationstoleavetheyard.You can’t assume that if your dog won’t chase a ball out of the yard,

he won’t chase a bicycle.

Or favorite neighbor.

Yourtraininghasbeensuccessfulatthispointifyourdoghasresistedtheurgetocrosstheboundaryonleadwithanydistractionyoucandreamup.

LESSON 4Off Lead With Supervision

Afterseveralsessionsofdistractions,yourdogshouldbereadyforoffleadplay.Youmuststayintheyardforoffleadtraining.

Themoreyourdogstaysonthepropertyforthefirstmonth,thelesschanceofyourdogeverattemptingtoleavethearea.

Continuetosuperviseandplaywithyourdogoutsideforaperiodofoneweek.

Shouldyourdogboltoutofthepropertyforanyreasonduringthisphase,retraceyourlasttrainingstepswithdistractionswithyourdogonaleash.

LESSON 5Off Lead Unsupervised

Whenyourdogresistsallmannerofdis-tractions,bothonandoffthelead,hecanbeleftunattendedintheyard.

Keepacloseeyeonyourdogfortwoweeksfrominsidethehouse.Thisfreedomshouldbebriefatfirstandtheamountoftimeincreasedgradually.

Beforeandaftereachunsupervisedsession,youmustcontinuetheplayandpraiseroutinetoreinforcethattheyardisahappy,funandsafeplacetobe.

LESSON 6Removing the Flags

Aftertwoweeksofsuccessfulcontain-ment,youcanbeginremovingtheflags.Startbyremovingeveryotherflag,everyotherday,untilalloftheflagsaregone.

Theleads,trainers,flagsandtheelec-tronictrainingcollarareallcluesforyourdogtolearntheboundaries.Theyareallremovedgraduallyexcepttheelectronictrainingcollar.

It’sessentialthatyouobservewhetheryourofflead,unsuperviseddogstillavoidsandretreatsfromtheunmarkedbound-ary.Ifyourdog’sresponseisanythingbutimmediateretraceyourstepsthroughthetrainingprocess.
