Who we are:

Milton Keynes Play Association is a registered charity, operating in

Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas. Our role is to support play

development, primarily in the voluntary and community sector. We

achieve this through sharing skills and knowledge, providing low cost

resources, service delivery and representation.

The team would like to welcome you to the 2014/2015 training and

development programme, which we hope will support your varied

needs, inspire and promote a quality play service. Yet again we have

not increased the costs for the majority of our courses.

Workforce development:

We work in partnership with Milton Keynes Council, and are

registered with the National Skills Academy to deliver Play &

Playwork training in the South-East. We deliver around 150 training

and development opportunities to somewhere in the region of

2,000 learners a year.

Who are our training and development opportunities aimed at?

Primarily our courses are specifically designed for those caring for

children and young people whether you work in an after school club,

school, nursery, pre-school, as a childminder or help in a community

group. However our core competence training and development will

appeal to the statutory, private or public sector workforce.

Where does the training take place?

The majority of our courses and workshops are delivered in our training

facilities at Kiln Farm with free parking. These are self-contained

training suites, which are all equipped with audio visual

equipment and are air conditioned.

Bespoke Courses

We can also arrange for training to be delivered at your setting

for any of the courses listed, tailor-made for your requirements.

You can confirm your booking on the telephone using a debit/credit card, or by sending a

2014/2015 booking form with payment which should be received within 10 working days, to secure your place.

By making payment by credit or debit card you are adhering to our terms and conditions,

which are available below.

Terms & Conditions 1. Provisional bookings: Places for courses and workshops can be reserved by phone, but will only be confirmed after

payment has been made by debit/credit card or a booking form is received. This must be received by MKPA 10 working days after the booking has been to secure your place.

2. Payment of course fee: Payments prior to the course/workshop is required, however members can be invoiced by request, which we require to be paid before the course commences. A certificate will be

available to you once we have received payment. 3. Bookings from non-members:

We are able to take bookings from non-members subject to payment of the relevant cost. Please make sure you indicate your membership number on the booking form to avoid being incorrectly charged. If you would like details regarding our membership, please do not

hesitate to speak to us. 4. Cancellation or non-attendance of courses:

The full cost of the course/workshop will be charged for cancellation without 5 working days’ notice or non-attendance. Where a course is over more than 1 session then the onus is on the student to attend ALL sessions. Failure to attend all sessions will be classed as a non-

Milton Keynes Play Association has the Skills Active Code of Practice,

and is registered as a CACHE and OCN Centre.

Sensory Integration Disorder Have you ever had a child who does not like too much noise, or gets frustrated if

there is too much choice not knowing what to do first? Sensory Integration Disorder (known as SID) is often undiagnosed, but it can impact children’s lives and behaviour.

This workshop explores the condition and provides helpful and practical advice to those working with children who have sensory overloads.


Supporting Change & Transition

We all hate it if unexpected change happens. For some children dealing with daily change

and transition is very hard. The workshop explores why this might be and how we can support children who have difficulty dealing with both simple transitions and life changing

Creating Sensory Stories These workshops bring imagination to life by creating amazing fun, interactive stories out of

“Do It Together” Family creative play workshops Have fun together, learn new skills and gain ideas of how to use low cost and scrap materials for craft

activities at home. For all the family with children aged 4-11yrs old.

Animal Magic - October

Use a variety of scrap material to create animal themed masks, puppets, models and mobiles for you to

take home.

Marble Madness - April

Create your own marble runs and crazy mazes using scrap materials to create a game for you to take

home. Have fun experimenting with different moving parts to see where your marbles end up.

Getting the Most out of your Day

This session takes a fresh approach to how we deal with time personally and challenges the myths that we don’t always have enough time. It will help you find the personal roots of how

you operate in time and help you think of new and different ways of dealing with them. It will include offering some strategies and ways of looking at getting the job done productively on the basis that effective time management starts with personal responsibility.

Understanding Blended Families This workshop gives an understanding of the challenges and dynamics around blended

families. It will include, What is a step-family? reactions to loss and signs of stress in children, common difficulties and early problems.

Divorce through the eyes of a child This workshop looks at the potential behavioural and emotional effects of divorce, separation
