Chapter 01In Dallas, a miniature black hole generation and evaporation experiment was being held. This experiment was being performed to try and study mass-energy conversion. It had been stalled due to potential dangers, but was started due to the events of Scorched Halloween.

In Japan, the usual group of people were at Shizuku's house, studying for exams. There, Shizuku announces that she will be studying in the USNA as a foreign exchange student starting in the new year. Everyone is surprised, since foreign exchange amongst Magicians was a rare thing, since it would reveal some of their technologies. They decide to hold a farewell party for her on Christmas Eve. She will be studying in Berkeley California, which is a relief for the rest of the group, since the “human ideologists” movement, an anti-magic movement, is focused in Boston.

As Tatsuya and Miyuki head home, they talk about Shizuku's travel abroad. The exchange students would be from the USNA and were likely there to investigate Material Burst.

Back in the States, Angelina Sirius was lying in bed after a mission in which she had to kill one of her subordinates who had deserted his post. While she is lying there, one of her subordinates, Major Canopus talks to her and comforts her as something of a parent figure. He wishes her good luck on her mission overseas in Japan.

Chapter 02Tatsuya and Miyuki were dressed in formal clothing for New Years Day (kimono and hakama) as they were going to visit the shrine. When they step outside, they meet Haruka, who was wearing a suit, and Yakumo, also in traditional clothing, and all four of them head to the shrine. On their way there, Haruka expresses her envy that Miyuki was able to put the kimono and attend to her hair on her own.

Once they reach the shrine, they meet Leo, Mizuki, and Honoka. After a few comments about Tatsuya looking like a Yakuza boss's son, he introduces Yakumo to them and they all head to the shrine. When they reach the shrine, they see a blonde-haired, blue-eyed foreigner. As she leaves, Tatsuya notices her looking at him.

At the start of the new term, there are rumors about the new international student in 1-A who has a beauty that contrasts from Miyuki's. They did not go to see the new student, but when lunch time comes along, Miyuki brings her along and they all have lunch together. There, she is introduced as Angelina Kudou Shields. Tatsuya asked her if she was in some way related to Kudou Retsu. She is the grand-daughter of his brother. Erika asks if Lina had other reasons for coming to Japan, which Tatsuya notices has made her tense up.

Chapter 03Lina's first week at First High School was a fantastic one. Miyuki's place as “The Queen,” the number one beauty of the school, had been changed to one of “The Two Beauties.” Since they were always together (Miyuki was showing Lina around as Student Council Vice-President), they were always compared to each other.

In the practice hall, the two are competing over who can take control of a metal ball between the two. Miyuki had been number one in this amongst the entire school (though she did not go up against Mari or Mayumi), but Lina was keeping even with her. Mayumi and Mari, who had come to watch, noticed that, while Lina was losing overall, she had kept up with Miyuki and was actually slightly faster, though she was overpowered in the end.

At lunch time, Lina is complaining about losing, but Tatsuya says she should forget about victory and defeat after the whole thing is over. He also thanks Lina for being a good motivation for Miyuki. He then asks why her nickname is Lina and not Angie. She states that she took Lina because there was a girl named Angela in her elementary school class, so she got stuck with Lina.

After school, Lina returns home to an apartment where a young woman, Michaela Hongo (Mia), was living. Mia, like Lina, had been sent on an espionage mission and had come a few weeks ahead. Her position was as a salesman of Maximilian (another magic Engineering corporation) at the National University of Magic. Neither of them have found anything. Lina mentions that she isn't cut out for the job, since she feels Tatsuya may have identified her already. She talks about how he questioned her nickname being Lina and not Angie (she is publicly known as Angie Sirius), and that she was very nervous when he asked.

Back at home, Tatsuya was measuring Miyuki's data for her CAD adjustment. Tatsuya seemed unhappy, but it was because Miyuki's growth was faster than he expected. He says Lina was a good rival for her, which serves to make Miyuki burn with the will to fight. While talking, Miyuki thinks to herself that she wants to know more about what Tatsuya is thinking.

After the measurements were completed, she went up and changed into leggings, a short skirt, and a long skin and had acted in a manner which exposed her womanly parts. She pouts slightly when Tatsuya, completely oblivious to what she was trying to do, continues the conversation and talks about how he believes Lina is Sirius. He also believes she was sent here for another purpose, since her abilities are not well suited for espionage based on his observations.

Chapter 04In Shibuya late at night, the streets were filled with young men who made the area lawless. Most of the large cities had been destroyed in the war, and when the country rebuilt them, they became safer. Shibuya seemed to be an exception. Leo was wandering the streets, a habit he had taken to due to his beliefs and family circumstances. Germany was the first country to successfully use genetic manipulation to modify the body of a Magician. Animals were often used to strengthen the genetic code, and amongst the first generation of chimeras, Leo's grandfather was one of the few to survive. All others either died quickly or grew insane as they grew older and killed themselves. Leo thought his grandfather was one of the few who lived a long time because he was a person who followed his whims. As such, Leo tried to do the same and walked around at night whenever he had the urge to.

As he is walking along, he notices some familiar faces. He calls out to Toshikazu and Inagaki, who eventually pull him away. They had been walking around in disguise since the area was notoriously bad for policemen and adults. Though a little hesitant, they decide to ask Leo about a case they were investigating, since the information would be released the next morning. It is in regards to a “vampire.” All the victims they had found around Tokyo had been killed and had their blood drained. The bite wound present was also too clean (with regards to bacteria). Leo makes a few guesses, which surprises Toshikazu, who then adamantly asks if Leo has any plans on becoming a detective. After getting back on track, they exchange information and Leo says he'll help with the investigation.

The next week, the vampire rumors are causing a stir in the school. While talking about them, Honoka mentions that Shizuku had told her the vampire incident was a rumor that seemed to be going around America and that it had started in Dallas Texas.

While the group of friends were gossiping about the vampire, Lina, who was not present at school, was in the USNA embassy having a meeting regarding the autopsy of one of the deserters Lina had caught before coming to America. It seems there was extra brain matter present, though what it meant no one could tell. Lina asked if it could be used to affect the mind using magic, but the scientist says something of that sort is only possible with spirit-interference magic, and even then, it would be unlikely. What's more, there was no such magic in existence. Lina simply thinks to a legend she had heard about a magic which could alter the mental structure, though the Magician had been unmarried and died twenty years ago in the hospital.

Chapter 05In a club house with no one else present, Mayumi met up with Katsuto. After joking around about how other people would think they were having a rendezvous, Mayumi gets down to business and requests Katsuto's help regarding the vampire incident. Apparently there were many more deaths than the police had found, and what's more, the majority of them were Magicians. Katsuto is hesitant at first, since it could potentially spark a fight between the Yotsuba and Saegusa if the Juumonji were to involve themselves, but after hearing the full story, he easily accepts.

After school, Tatsuya headed to the Public Morals Committee Headquarters to grab his CADs, as he was going on patrol. There, Kanon asks him to show Lina around, since she wanted to see what happened on the job. He accepts the task. When they are alone (outside of the gazes looking at him in envy), she asks why he is satisfied as a Course 2 student when Kanon (she pronounces it Cannon) thinks highly of his skills. He states that he is simply good at combat and that he is a Course 2 student because he is poor at using magic. Hearing those words, Lina quickly attacks him with her hands and tries to shoot him with magic. Tatsuya successfully suppresses her. She complains about how he has such good control, since her hands still hurt but he wasn't developing a bruise. She apologizes formally afterward, which Tatsuya says is an eerie thing. He states that a polite nature does not fit her nature. Getting angry at that, she mentions that she has tea with the President and then quickly shuts up noticing her mistake. She then says she accompanied him on the patrol today to see if he was suitable to coming to America. He denies her arguments that America would find a good use for him and would not judge him poorly like the Japanese system did (he argues that no matter what, it would essentially be the same thing, since he could find his uses in Japan as well). Tatsuya ends the conversation with that, not bothering to question Lina (since he is already pretty sure of her identity), which confuses her.

Chapter 06Early in the morning, while Erika was preparing to do her morning training, she receives news that Leo is hospitalized because he was attacked by the vampire. She sent a mail to everyone and was not present in school that day. While she is at the hospital (she is sitting in the hall, making sure no one odd comes to attack him), she notices Mayumi and Katsuto visiting him. She then goes to her brother to ask him what was going on, all the while regretting that she did not beat him harder (since it was such a rare chance to let her frustrations out).

After school, Tatsuya and everyone goes visit. Erika meets up with them (which surprises everyone, since it was getting late and she was at the hospital since the morning. She states she had gone home and returned since the group would be there, in a tone everyone felt was too natural).

As they enter the room, Erika introduces Leo's sister, Saijou Kaya, to them. She leaves the room to let them all talk. When they talk to Leo about what happened. Mikihiko asks Leo if he can check his spectral body, which is something of a representation of his energy in the shape of a human body. After reading it, Mikihiko asks Leo if he is really human (which somewhat offends Leo, since his grandfather was genetically modified), because Leo has an amount of energy which would make most people unconscious, yet he was there sitting upright and talking easily. Mikihiko mentions that what happened to Leo sounds something like a Parasite, a spirit of sorts. He is confused, though, since such things rarely ever need to drink blood. As they leave the hospital, Mikihiko says that what confuses him most, though, is that people rarely meet any spirits, and that the incidents where they harm people like this vampire occurs every few hundred years.

Back at the hospital, Leo collapses. He had done his best to act normally so that he wouldn't worry his friends. After he goes to sleep, Erika goes back to talk to her brother.

Chapter 07Tatsuya and Yakumo were doing their daily sparring. As they fought, Yakumo had used his magic to hide his presence. Tatsuya disperses it with Gram Dispersion, but is met with another illusion spell he has never seen, which leads to his defeat. Tatsuya notices it was not a normal illusion magic. Yakumo admits it, saying it was originally a magic used to deceive those not of this world. This confuses Tatsuya, since he had heard Mikihiko just the day before that spirits are rarely ever met. Yakumo corrects his misunderstanding, since Mikihiko was not talking about spirits people bring about on purpose (such as Mikihiko's Spirit Bodies)

Two days later, things were different for Tatsuya than normal. In the morning, Erika came in at the last minute and slept through all the morning. Mikihiko too was not present. At lunch, Erika was still asleep. He went to Honoka and asked to speak to Shizuku. When he gets in contact with her, he mentions that Leo was attacked by the vampire and that he wants any information she can find for him, so long as she does not do anything dangerous to get it.

That night, Erika was patrolling the city on the lookout for the vampire with Mikihiko. Currently, there were three different forces hunting the vampire – The Police, the Ten Families (Mayumi and Katsuto), and the Hundred Families (primarily Erika and Mikihiko). She was partnered with Mikihiko who could use his Ancient Magic to help guide them. Soon enough, they find the vampire and what appears to be someone chasing after her. Both are women wearing masks. Mikihiko fights the woman presumed to be the vampire while Erika fights the crimson-haired, golden-eyed girl hunting the vampire.

Chapter 08Erika and the golden-eyed woman were fighting, Erika pressing into her and remaining on the offensive. She knew instinctively that it would be bad to fall into a defensive position. She was only holding her own because her physical combat abilities were superior and her opponent was impatient. While Erika was fighting the golden-eyed woman, Mikihiko was fighting the vampire. Though the vampire was weaker than the golden-eyed woman, he was having trouble suppressing her. He eventually uses Thunder Child to electrocute the vampire, but the vampire uses a Dispersion System magic which attacks him with a greater electric shock. Before he was about to be defeated, a large amount of Psions forced the vampire's attacks to cease.

Erika meanwhile was still fighting the golden-eyed woman who had pulled out a gun. Erika had managed to stop the gun, but was hit with a magic which stunned her. When she regained control, she noticed the golden-eyed magician had been hit by Tatsuya, who was on his bike. The golden-eyed girl shoots bullets at the ground to cause a distraction and ran away. Before she got away, Tatsuya shot her with his magic, but nothing happened.

Tatsuya approaches the two to see if they are safe. After Mikihiko hands his cloak to Erika (whose clothes had been heavily damaged in the fight), Erika asks why Tatsuya was there. Tatsuya simply states that Mikihiko called him (Mikihiko thought Tatsuya was a traitor, since Erika did not know he had called him). Before Erika starts to go on a rampage, Tatsuya mentions they should leave if they don't want to be caught by the other search parties. Erika jumps on his bike at his invitation and the two leave Mikihiko behind to run away on his own.

Late that night, Tatsuya has Miyuki call Mayo. He requests that she give him some details on the Kudou Family magic “Parade,” (he asks her because she was taught by Kudou Retsu) which he believes is what the golden-eyed magician used. Parade is a magic which writes coordinates into a false body, which essentially makes it a superficial duplicate that he could not even differentiate between through the Idea. Because of that, any attacks he uses won't work unless they hit the caster. He also receives permission to contact Kazama.

Chapter 09As Tatsuya and Miyuki are heading to school, they meet with Mayumi, who wants to talk to Tatsuya in a club room alone after school. When he goes to meet up with her, he sees Katsuto with her. Mayumi and Katsuto ask if Tatsuya had gone out last night. He preempts them saying he rushed out because he was asked to and that he had no intention of joining their vampire hunt. He also states that he will not help them unless they give him information, since there is too much he does not know. When they accept those conditions, he says he will help them. Mayumi wants to keep an eye on him and Miyuki, but Katsuto says he should work alone (because a relationship with Tatsuya was a give-and-take one).

Tatsuya finds out that the scale of damage was larger than he was predicted, there was a fourth force obstructing the search teams (which is likely the golden-eyed girl Erika was fighting the night before), and that there may be many more vampires. He leaves before he is asked to tell his own information.

He runs to the Student Council Office because Miyuki is waiting for him for lunch. As he enters, he dodges Lina, who was hiding by the door. After she has left and he, Miyuki, and Honoka were eating lunch, he asks why Lina was even in the office. They say she had trouble joining a club (because the clubs were aggressively recruiting her and she wouldn't be able to go to any competitions in the time she was here), she was placed in the student council as a temporary officer. They also mention that while she was practicing in the light gymnastics club (similar to Mirage Bat type acrobatics), many people wanted to take pictures of her and sell them. Tatsuya jokingly makes a comment about her being picturesque, which makes Miyuki and Honoka upset.

Later that night, after supper, Tatsuya is looking at a monitor set up by Fujibayashi and Sanada to track the movements of all the search teams. He can't find the vampire, but based on how the other teams move, a supercomputer the Independent Magic Battalion is using calculates where the vampire would move. As soon as he finds a good opportunity, he rushes out and tells Miyuki to remain home.

After he left, Miyuki thought about their connection while looking at the monitor (though he turned it off, she somewhat remembered what to do to bring the map back up). The connection she has with him is something of a one-sided shackle. While she was the only one that could break it, he was the one who could see everything about her, no matter where he was. As she was thinking such things, the doorbell rings and she sees Yakumo.

Tatsuya reached a park before the golden-eyed magician and the vampire arrived to fight. He was quietly watching from a tree. The vampire was losing and was trying to run away. While she was trying to run away, he pulled out a gun and shot her.

Chapter 10Tatsuya had shot the vampire with a small, anesthetic bullet. Catching her, he jumped down from his hiding place and is attacked by the masked magician. He manages to dodge her attacks and destroys her illusion magic, Parade.

In a car, Yakumo and Miyuki were speaking. Miyuki asked why Yakumo was coming out when he normally does not do anything pertaining to the real world. He explains that he is going out because it is his duty to help his student with this particular opponent who had used Parade. The Kudou magic, Parade, was apparently a derivation of the magic Yakumo had used a few days prior against Tatsuya, and it was developed by the Kudou when Yakumo's predecessor taught it to Kudou in the 9th Magical Research Institute. The main difference was that Yakumo's magic focused on creating a body clone while Parade focused on changing the image of the user. Since it was based on the magic that he used, he felt it was his responsibility to stop it from being shown to other people.

The masked magician shot five bullets at Tatsuya, but they all disintegrated. By the time she shot her seventh, the gun she was using fell apart. Tatsuya yelled for Lina to stop fighting, though it has the complete opposite effect. She pulled out a number of daggers (all her weapons were Integrated Device) and throws it at him. Tatsuya was having trouble fighting her, since she had used Parade again, though this time to create a body double. He could not find her while the fake was present (Parade is described as a computer shortcut which does not take one to the file it was supposed to point to). Without her location, he could not properly attack.

To find her, instead of reading through the Idea to find her location (since it would leave him open), he throws up a grenade which shoots out buckshot. He gets hurt and forcibly stops his auto-regeneration. Lina put up a barrier which was still too weak to block the entire attack. Her barrier was dissipated and then the new one she set up dissipated before it was activated. She gives up as Tatsuya throws her to the grown. He is suppressing her with one hand. Using the other, he reaches for her mask. As soon as he touches it, she activates her magic, “Dancing Blades” which cause five knives to fly out at him from all angles. Thinking about the mechanism, he decomposes the knives as they reach his clothes.

Now that her attack had finished, he proceeds to pull the mask off. The next moment, she begins to scream for help (like a girl being raped). Four police officers come and pull him off her. As soon as she jumps into one of the policeman's arms, Tatsuya jumps up and kicks him in the face, knocking him out. He then says to Lina that she should stop with the theatrics, and calls her Angie Sirius (finally exposing that he knows even her secret identity). He claims that even if it were a real policeman, he would have attacked, since he would have unknowingly aided a foreign soldier.

She says that she must kill him as he knows her face and identity. Tatsuya is surrounded. As Lina is about to attack, Miyuki shouts. Tatsuya manages to get out of the circle of soldiers, and Yakumo knocked all of the soldiers out in a second. Lina says fighting three-on-one isn't fair (which makes Miyuki angry, since it was originally four/five-on-one). Tatsuya decides to do things “fairly” and says he will fight her one on one. If he wins, she will answer any of his questions. If she wins, he will let her go for the day. Miyuki stops him and says she will fight in his place, since Lina tried to kill Tatsuya.

Chapter 11All four of them (Miyuki, Tatsuya, Yakumo, and Lina) drive to dried river bed for the fight. Yakumo was watching Lina in the car while Miyuki was holding Tatsuya as she rode the bike (for once, thinking about the fight rather than her brother). In the car, Lina asks Yakumo why he does not care about her fight with Miyuki and why he does not care about national affairs since he is a Magician. He simply says he is not a Magician but a shinobi and that he threw away such sentimentality. Even though he could use magic, he felt no obligation to use it for others. Lina could not agree, but could not reject his words, either.

Once they reach the riverbed, Yakumo begins his role as the referee. Before they can fight, Tatsuya approaches Miyuki extremely closely. He embraces her and kisses her on the lips to release her control over his powers. This way, she could fight Lina with all her might. Once Tatsuya returns to Yakumo, he apologizes to Lina for holding her up. Thinking she would end the fight in a single blow (since fighting normal Magicians was a specialty of hers as someone well trained in hand-to-hand combat), she begins to cast magic. Miyuki, who uses magic slightly slower than Lina, started her magic earlier and interrupts Lina's magic. All Lina can do is dodge for a while. When Miyuki takes a brief moment to recast her magic, Lina uses Self-Speed magic to get in close to Miyuki.

Miyuki stops her magic and casts a spell called Deceleration Zone. It is a spell that most people can use, but with her strength in magic, she can freeze even the gas molecules. This creates a change in pressure in the area. As Lina approaches, she releases her magic, forcing the gas molecules to regain their speed, which creates a strong shock wave. Lina, who had barely managed to keep from being blown away, stood up and pulls out her knife Integrated Device and activates Molecular Divider, a magic used by William Sirius (Sirius is a title given to the most powerful magician in the USNA military, and only those who surpass the previous user of the magic can learn it). Miyuki's interference power is overwhelming hers, though, so she activates Dancing Blades before her magic was destroyed. Miyuki, sensing the blades flying at her at high speeds, changes her magic to an all around defense.

Lina and Miyuki begin using wide-area large-scale magic. Lina uses Muspelheim, which changes the air around her into fire, thunder, and eventually plasma, while Miyuki uses Niflheim. Tatsuya is standing at the side, ready to destroy both their magic at the same time, no matter how difficult it might be. Tatsuya realizes that Lina will lose this, since this was her third fight (Vampire > Tatsuya > Miyuki), and she was more specialized in small-scale, high-impact magic than large-scale, wide-area magic, which was Miyuki's territory. Soon enough, she begins to weaken. She begins to pull out another CAD. Seeing this as dangerous, Tatsuya shoots out Gram Dispersion and erases both their magic.

Miyuki complains, saying he should not have interfered with the fight. Yakumo asks him why he did, since it was not technically in a situation where he had to intervene (conditions were inability to fight or giving up. No killing was allowed). He could not think of a reason to stop them, he simply did on impulse. Lina accepts her loss and says she will answer his questions, but not without letting him explain why he stopped them.

Chapter 12Sunday morning, Tatsuya calls Mayumi, Katsuto, Erika, and Mikihiko to the Student Council Office. When everyone gathers, he mentions he shot a bullet at the vampire (the vampire got away, since the anesthetic wore off while he was fighting Lina) which emitted a radio frequency for 10 minutes every 3 hours. He tells them they can do what they want with it. They can use it themselves or cooperate. He says he will not care what happens, so long as something does happen before leaving. At the same time as he is talking to the others, Lina is getting up out of bed at her apartment. On the computer, she finds a message saying Mia will be heading to First High School as a sales rep the next day.

In America, Shizuku (nicknamed Tear, since Shizuku means Drop) calls out her friend, Raymond, from a party she is attending. She wanted to talk to him alone, but people are around, so the two run somewhere. She uses her magic to keep them warm as well as keep them from being heard. Raymond comments how the USNA only uses magic for military purposes and research purposes, and that there is no convenient magic like what she is using. They begin to discuss the main topic, which about the vampire. He believes the Vampire rumor started in Dallas after the micro black hole experiment. Though Shizuku does not know where his information comes from, she knows it is reliable. Shizuku, all the meanwhile, completely ignores his blatant attempts to hit on her (he says many embarrassing, though not perverse, things without hesitation).

Back in Japan, Tatsuya and Miyuki are riding a cabinet back home. Tatsuya is looking at the passing scenery and Miyuki is watching him, anxious about his thoughts. He eventually tells her that he knew Lina was involved with something from the beginning, and even though he had the chance to interrogate her (when she attacked him during his patrol for the Public Morals Committee), he chose not to, which resulted in him acting slowly. Because of that, a friend (Leo) was injured. He doesn't quite understand what it is he is feeling. Miyuki says that she is happy that he can show such feelings towards someone other than herself, that he also still has some human emotions remaining. He remains silent to cover his embarrassment and they continue home in silence.

Chapter 13At night, Mayumi, Katsuto, Erika, and Mikihiko are cooperating in the vampire hunt using the information Tatsuya gave them. They are also trying to avoid the other search parties since they knew it would be problematic if the families found out they were cooperating with each other. Mayumi was in charge of communications while the others are doing the hunting. Mayumi gets annoyed at Tatsuya for no particular reason and thinks to herself that she will give him some very bitter chocolates on Valentines.

That same night, Tatsuya and Miyuki were at home having dinner. After they finish, they receive a phone call from Shizuku. They are surprised because Shizuku is wearing a negligee and it was late at night. As they speak, Tatsuya notices she was tipsy, but does not say too much about it. She tells him she found more information on the vampire rumor, particularly regarding its creation. After talking about it, no one but Tatsuya understands, so he explains to Shizuku and Miyuki what the issue is, clearly “angry.”

The black hole experiment was performed based on the extra-dimensional theory (a sub-section of String Theory, if you are so inclined to look it up), which states that gravity, the weakest of the four forces governing the universe, is actually leaking into this dimension from another dimension, hence why it is so weak here. As for Magic, it seems to require no energy and breaks the laws of energy-conservation (it requires no energy to perform, and some things change energy in an inconsistent way, such as the sudden increase of energy when using movement or speed magic, with no observable change elsewhere). He talks about one theory of magic which states that the energy required and used in magic comes from another dimension. Whenever Magicians use magic, they pull energy from that other dimension, which weakens the dimensional barrier. What keeps the dimensional barrier strong is the force of gravity which is leaking over to this dimension. The problem comes from the fact that they performed the miniature black hole generation. When the USNA did that, they pulled gravity from the other dimension, which made the dimensional barrier weak. When that happened, some of the magic energy from that dimension leaked into this plane. The problem was that it was not called by a Magician, who always attaches a phenomenon to it. Since there was no phenomenon, it was simply an Information Body without a physical structure. That is his hypothesis regarding the existence of “spirits” which he believes best fits the current events.

The next day, at school, Erika is asleep all day until lunch time. She leaves and Mizuki follows her. It seems she is avoiding Tatsuya. Mizuki essentially plays Erika and makes her explain what is wrong. Erika is avoiding Tatsuya because, even when she didn't request it, he is always helping her, and she doesn't want to be seen in such a manner. It was embarrassing for her, since it seems like he is viewing her as a woman when he sees her like that. Mizuki convinces her that Tatsuya thinks of no one but Miyuki and that she doesn't need to make such a large problem out of it, because if she keeps avoiding Tatsuya, he will forget about her (because, like she said before, his head is full of Miyuki). As soon as Erika recovers, Mikihiko arrives with sandwiches Tatsuya bought for her (since Erika had not eaten). As they are eating, Mizuki's vision hurts her as a large Pushion wave assaults her senses. Mikihiko recognizes the feeling and realizes the Vampire has arrived at the school. Mizuki says she will go because she has a feeling she should.

Chapter 14Tatsuya was on the rooftop with Miyuki and Honoka. They were having lunch together, but without the others, it was just him and the two lovely girls. He left for the rooftop because he could not handle all the people looking at him. Since it was cold, Miyuki uses a magic that keeps them warm. Still, Honoka takes advantage and holds onto his arm. Getting angry, Miyuki does the same, so he's stuck (thinking about the vampire case) while the two girls are snuggled next to him.

Miyuki suddenly shivers and says she felt a moment of discomfort from an odd wave motion. Since Tatsuya did not feel it, she thinks it must have been a Pushion wave. With this, he realizes the vampire could be analyzed via Pushions. He receives a call from Mayumi and locates its position. Miyuki and Tatsuya jump off the roof using their Flight Devices.

Back at the office, Erika and Mikihiko are trying to grab their CADs. Since no one there knew the situation, they were refused. Katsuto eventually arrives and essentially forces the office staff to hand over their CADs.

Miyuki and Tatsuya are in a nearby classroom watching the Maximilian employees, searching for the vampire amongst them. While they are watching, they notice Lina sneaking around, speaking to one of the Maximilian employees (Mia). While watching them, he notices that there were many spirits around their body.

The source of those spirits was Mikihiko, who was watching them with Erika, Katsuto, and Mizuki. He invokes a magic which creates a barrier to reduce the perception from outside. The moment he does, Mia seems to show some agitation. Lina, seeing Mia for the first time in four days, let down her guard and did not notice what was happening, but noticed that Mia was uncomfortable.

Tatsuya and Miyuki were surprised to see the barrier, since such a large area had disappeared from their sight right before their eyes. Tatsuya explains to Miyuki that Mikihiko made the barrier. He then calls Mayumi and asks her to shut the cameras off without explaining why. She does so and they jump down.

Almost on intuition, Lina pushes Mia away and jumps back. She takes out a CAD and notices Erika attacking Mia. Before she can stop Erika, Katsuto stops her with his barrier. Lina looks at Mia and finally realizes she had been infected by the vampire. Erika continues to attack, eventually stabbing her in the face, but after taking the blade out and jumping back (because Mia attacked her), the wound heals almost immediately. Tatsuya and Miyuki appear, with Miyuki freezing Mia's body. While Tatsuya, Katsuto, and Erika are speaking about what to do, Mikihiko, who was with Mizuki away from the others, yells at them to watch out. Miyuki's ice is destroyed and Mia's body burns, the whole thing causing an explosion. Tatsuya, Mikihiko, and Katsuto protect Miyuki, Mizuki, and Erika and Lina (respectively). Thunder is still present after the explosion and attacks the five people.

Chapter 15The thunder that attacked them was slow, but powerful enough to knock them out. The problem was that it came from random places that they had trouble reacting to. Tatsuya could not see anything with his vision, so he knows it was the parasite. Katsuto erects a barrier to block its attacks, and Tatsuya stops its attacks with Gram Dissolution before they can come into effect. The two are conversing (now having room to, since they understood the attacks), and come to the conclusion that it is using its instinct and looking for a new host. This is confirmed by Lina from what she knew.

Mikihiko and Mizuki are watching from afar. Mizuki resolves herself to use her eyesight, even if it could blind her. Mikihiko gives her a shawl to wear, which when covering her eyes, would work better than her glasses. He consents to release his barrier (which decreases the Pushion waves that she is bombarded with) only if she will use that if the stimulus is too strong. After undoing the barrier, Mizuki finds the parasite and points it out. Mikihiko uses his magic, Karura-En to attack the source.

Tatsuya sees from the side and is surprised that there was a magic which could attack the Information Body without a Physical Structure. Though he knew it existed, he was surprised to actually see it work. He also notices that the parasite's coordinates, which had been vague the whole time, were suddenly clearer. He could not locate it, but it had stopped being difficult to find. He likened it to Schrodinger's cat. As soon as one observer was present, it became easier to confirm for other observers. Noticing its plan, Tatsuya holds up his left hand and gathers Psions.

Mizuki was noticed by the parasite, which now focused on attacking her, attempting to take over her body. Mikihiko attacks it using a magic which is weak, but very quick to use. The parasite recovers, and before he can activate his magic again, the parasite is blown away with a torrent of Psions.

Tatsuya, knowing it was going after Mizuki, had finally located it and attacked it with Gram Demolition in order to keep her safe. However, he knows he had completely ignored their objectives to capture it. No one was injured in the fight, but the fight may not have happened if they did not attack (it was not a required battle, but one they chose), and they lost the chance to gain any clues, so overall, they had ended worse off than they were before, since now they did not know its host. Tatsuya was frustrated with himself.

Chapter 16The Parasite is floating around to protect itself. It always emits Pushions and lives by absorbing them, but it has trouble gathering them, so it requires a host. Just now, it had stayed in the physical plane on its own, used many attacks, and was attacked by a large torrent of Psions, so it was weak and needed rest. It found its place in a warehouse.

Elsewhere, Lina is being interrogated by “typical bureaucrats” (those who did not earn their rank through military service but other means) for failing her mission. They are essentially ridiculing her the entire time (including some sexual harassment. They say she should strip right there so they could check to see if she was bitten, since she was dwelling with the vampire for a month without realizing it). Just then, Colonel Balance, who is in charge of a government organization which oversees all other government organizations for improper conduct, arrives and saves her, saying Lina will remain in Japan to continue her mission. The committee interrogating Lina can say nothing since Colonel Balance is a well known hero, and it was her job originally to interrogate Lina, yet she was not invited to this hearing. She would remain in Japan to support Lina and had obtained the permission Lina needed to use a special weapon, Brionac.

Tatsuya was practicing at Yakumo temple, trying to attack lone Information Bodies (i.e. the parasite). Tatsuya had been training for seven days but, while he managed to attack the lone Information Body, he could still not destroy it. He is frustrated that he can't do it, though he had advanced far faster than anyone else (though he had the advantage of being able to locate the Information Body with his body). Yakumo and Miyuki say that he should consider developing a new magic instead of using his Gram Demolition, since it might provide better results. Tatsuya says it is difficult for anyone to develop magic, but he could not help but try, since Miyuki is confident in his ability (Yakumo is as well, since he is good at stream-lining magic like he did in the Nine-Schools Competition).

The next morning, Tatsuya and Miyuki were watching the news. There was a leak of information regarding the black hole experiment, saying it was used to draw out a demon from another dimension to counter the weapon the Japanese used in the war (Material Burst) and that it could not be controlled and had taken possession of USNA military personnel. These personnel had attacked civilians. Tatsuya believes this information is not entirely true, stating it seems to be a plot that would be used by the human ideologists.

At school, Tatsuya and Miyuki capture Lina and they talk as they head to class (obviously Lina is upset, but she answers Tatsuya's questions to get rid of her frustration, since no one else knows her situation). She says the story in the news is clearly false. Tatsuya mentions it is information control on the public opinion and may have something to do with the human ideologists. He also ties it towards the Seven Sages, an organization from Greece. Lina states they are not the type to follow a single ideology. Rather, they are more like pranksters who commit crimes not for a reason but for pleasure. He ends the conversation by asking if someone purposely did the black-hole experiment to call out the demon. Lina ends by denying it, saying she will be angry if he really believes that.
