ello and welcome to the September edition of mkflyers.

As the children’s summer holidays are over, normality is resumed. With all this fab weather we are having I know I have topped up on the tan.If like us your children’s toys and belongings are taking over your house and find you keep saying we need more space, but do not want to get rid of them (the stuff that is, not the children) why not check out the Lok n Store advert on page 24. Take this opportunity to clear some space. We have another car review from Carnoisseur Leasing in Newport Pagnell, so if you are looking to get yourself into a new car, speak to the guys - what they don’t know about cars is not worth knowing. See page 10 to see which car they have reviewed this month.

Since Lucy joined our family, we have made many trips to Bumpstart Baby Shop (see page 31) and I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you from Kim and I to Helen and her team for all the help, it is like shopping with family. You are all brilliant – THANK YOU

From all of us here at mkflyers, we would like to wish the Calcutta Brasserie in Stony Stratford a very happy 6th Birthday. They have put on a special birthday menu just for the occasion, so why not see page 16 to check it out.

Until next month

Cloudy2Clear Windows - Service with a smile!t’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in

repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes - not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services.

Managing Director Billy Harley feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people money, although that obviously helps.

Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the

customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.

’ Cloudy2Clear service the Milton Keynes, Bedford and Leighton Buzzard areas and Billy is finding that his

approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated .’

I

So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give billy a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Every person is unique. Each owns the central leading character role within their own personal unfolding real time life story. This is true for all.Yet what defines you as you? What drives you? What makes you portray your role and central character as you do? Who are you really? And how often do let that reality shine through?Often facets of behaviour and personality are lead more by circumstances, expectation, private fears, presumption and what’s uppermost in thoughts, feelings, emotions and mind than free choice. What is portrayed does not always reflect what’s inside the real person. We can best see this in action with actors and stars as they feel comfortable on camera and on screen within their scripts, but frequently less so within their own private lives and skin. Often finding it easier to project away from themselves they can battle knowing who they really are. In these circumstances they can believe life is flawed, that reality is dull and difficult, that people everywhere judge and always want something, that their story is flat, uninteresting, uninspiring, and that something more somewhere must exist…Every individual human being can also relate to this somehow in some way, perhaps not to the extremes of many famous people, but definitely in their own way, within their own life, its definition and what’s occurring to and for them in general life.Very few are living their dream. Very few will realise their ability to write their unfolding script from higher levels of intuition, insight and soul, to allow life to uphold and assist them. Fewer still realise they are free – not downtrodden and held back by society, family, circumstance and present overriding commitments and location. Few remember their personal gifts and purpose. Few recognise being alive as the wondrous experience it is and can be. Far too many tread water, live automatically, want time to move faster through work and stress periods and wonder why free time is fleeting...Who you are now is an expression of who you thought yourself to be to this point – but it’s not always your highest version; it’s not always who you can be or the definitive live product, but more a reflection of your choices up-to-date. You will grow and refine your life long. Nothing is done and dusted, over or finished – until it is...What are you about? What do you want? (Not from the perspective of who and what you think you should be or from what you think others want or need, but from the perspective of what you would really like your life to look like, from your deepest most private place). It’s easy to get caught up in whatever’s going on and to tram-line the expectations of society, but life is your dream, it’s asking for input, to be able to grant what you wish.Remember you are living proof of your beliefs. What you think will then happen - what you want – will usually somehow appear. This life you are living has a limited time span; it’s a single slot in evolution, in history, within time unfolding; it’s a space that you chose

to fill in, to occupy, to express and explore, to bring meaning, love and wants to real life...Without humanity, who and what can tell life what being here upon the planet is about? Who can know what it means to be alive in the first place, to feel the wind and rain and the shining hot sun on your back? Who can express love and its opposite fear and pain? Without one, how could we possibly know or understand the true meaning of the other? Life is not the bane that you must aimlessly struggle through, it’s the gift that you design and then live. You choose it; you mould, plan and project it - and can alter, bend, shape and use it as you wish.

What more can we ask for? From today begin to notice how you hold yourself back,

how your thoughts are uplifting or deflating. Notice how you program your reality ongoing – through

automatic expectations or through what other people expect, not because they’re mean – but because you always do what you do because you’re you, because that’s how you define who you are and it’s how you connect, how you love, how you feel helpful, needed, loved or loving, it’s how you show you understand,

uphold, uplift or care, because in your own way that’s how you give back…

Every day you make choices that help shape reality, whether just for yourself, for loved ones and

friends or for wider life as you add energy to its bigger unfolding picture.

What you expect adds to others of like mind. What you feel, think and believe – does the same. How you live is not personal to yourself – it really matters, you make matter as you manifest what you put effort into. You’re shaping the future, your own just as much as for others, with what you pay attention to or take for granted every day. You add valuable input and substance to the matrix of present evolution.Every moment you are alive you create the real-time story you then live. What do you want your life to look like? What do you expect? How do you live? What will you do with your precious time left? Have you found love? Are things abundant? Are you happy and at peace with your lot? What needs to work better so you can be?(I am I) Your life is your personal expression of what being physical means. All findings relay back to Me as pure input and conscious live energy. Your life adds to My life. Your life force does too. All that can be depends heavily on You. (I am I)Until next month;Be safe, well and happy…Be all you search outwardly for…

o me this car looks a bit odd the Q7 I get the Q5 makes sense but this just seems like Audi are trying to cover everything for everybody buts it’s not just Audi, Mercedes

now have the GLA and BMW have the X1 the problem is with all these cars is the Qashqai is a better car and it’s a lot cheaper but I guess it doesn’t have the German badge.Having said that its drive and feel is very good considering the Q3 is the cheapest model in Audi’s Q car line-up, but there’s nothing second-rate about the quality of its interior. The dashboard and door panels are manufactured from dense, high-quality materials, while the smoothly weighted switchgear and MMI interface smack of real quality. The Q3 provides all the obvious safety equipment you’d expect: six airbags, including curtain bags that extend into the rear of the cabin; electronic stability control; and ISOFIX fittings for the front passenger and two outer rear seats. All this helped the car achieve a five-star crash rating from Euro NCAP. Deadlocks, locking wheelnuts and an alarm are also on hand to ward off thieves.

All the Q range do drive well considering it’s a small car and high up its smooth

and comfortable, handles well on corners but for me even this 2.0TDi version lacks a bit of go.Over all it’s a good solid car and they

will sell them but for me I think your money would be better spent on a

Nissan or a Kia.

n Wednesday 17 September, award winning restaurant Calcutta Brasserie based in Stony Stratford will celebrate its sixth

anniversary with an evening filled with live entertainment led by Britain’s Got Talent runners up Signature.

This year they have enjoyed great success by firstly winning the ‘Best Asian Restaurant’ accolade at the Milton Keynes Food and Leisure Awards. More recently, the restaurant won the accolade of ‘Best in Britain Top 50 for 2014’ BIBA award, which is the industry’s longest running awards system.

The anniversary evening will aim to raise money for Leo’s Appeal, a wonderful cause that funds and supports children’s wards at Milton Keynes Hospital. Local businesses and retailers

will provide gifts for giveaways on the night that lucky customers will be able to win.

The owner, Ali Abdul said that “We’re extremely proud of Calcutta Brasserie’s success over the past six years. We always try to make our customer experience an unforgettable one and try to give back to the community. The charity we will be raising money for is a great cause so we’re excited to contribute

towards it.”

Head of fundraising Vanessa Holmes said: “We are delighted to be working with Calcutta

Brasserie once again and thank you so much to Ali and the team for their

ongoing support. The children’s wards at the hospital rely on charitable donations to fund those extra items that make a huge difference– so support of Leo’s Appeal in the

community means a great deal.”

Tickets for the night cost £27.95 and includes a drinks reception, three course meal,

entertainment and a goody bag.

£2.9m Funding for MK A&EWork has started at Milton Keynes hospital to expand our A&E by creating more examination bays and much needed clinical space.Applauding the city’s MP’s longstanding campaign to expand the A&E, Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt acknowledged the need for the capital investment in parliament in June.On hearing the news I could not have been happier. What better vote of confidence could the hospital have than to see the start of the major building works? It’s been a lot of effort but I’m delighted that our campaign is succeeding and that Government is listening. Not only are we getting a bigger and better A&E, but it also sends a very clear message that with our first class staff, new teaching wing and this investment, the future at MK hospital is a bright one.

highlight the urgent need for more families to come forward.St. Francis’ Children’s Society is a specialist voluntary adoption agency which has grown significantly over the past three

years; placing 36 children with new families and approved 37 additional new adopters, with plans to dramatically

increase those figures over the

coming two years. The new MK centre will

allow the Society to grow its already extensive services for

adopted children and their families, providing a safe and nurturing space for counselling and family events.

Currently 6,000 children are waiting for adoption. Tangible progress has been made at St Francis and with their recently secured funding, I am so pleased that even more children and potential parents in MK, will have the support of the Society to become strong family units.

Divorce Negotiator Service launches in Milton KeynesAn amicable divorce at an affordable price

arriage is a partnership and if it’s over, you should both be able to move on with a reasonable and realistic share

of the relationship’s assets. As the UK’s No 1 Specialist in Amicable Divorce and Fair Financial Settlements that will always be our objective and unlike solicitors, we can work with both of you to speed up the process and slash your costs.

We are available for our clients 7 days a week 9am to 9pm and although much of what we do can be achieved by phone or email, we can also visit you at home if you prefer. You won’t miss work or have to pay a child minder whilst reading magazines in a solicitor’s waiting room.

Local Negotiator Chris Jones told us “When you’re considering divorce you’ve probably listened to more horror stories and more advice than you can cope with. We’re all aware of settlements that take forever and solicitor bills that resemble

telephone numbers. Where possible, we work with both parties to achieve a fair financial settlement

that will be acceptable to everyone, including the court judge. Ultimately, this

saves anxiety, time and money. At a time when the same income is going to be needed by two households rather than one, every pound saved can be invested in the future of that couple

and their children. That has to be a good thing doesn’t it?

Our service puts our clients in control of their divorce. We always provide options and

information in simple English and we proceed at their preferred speed. After all, it’s their future and it’s important.”

ast month, a few of our team attended a Dementia Friends training course, provided by their local City Council. It certainly gave us

more of an insight as to how to better help some of our clients, who are suffering from this terrible illness.

Dementia is a set of symptoms which include the following:

Becoming confused and • increasingly forgetful,Experiencing mood swings, • becoming sad/angry and feeling depressed,Becoming more withdrawn from social • situations,Having increased difficulty with day to day • activities.

These symptoms can vary from person to person and get progressively worse over time, eventually leading to the sufferer needing total support from the people who care for them. There are several different types of Dementia, including Alzheimer’s Disease and Vascular Dementia.

Alzheimer’s Disease is the most common cause of Dementia. During the course of the disease, protein ‘plaques’ and ‘tangles’ develop in the structure of the brain, leading to the death of brain cells. Alzheimer’s affects around 496,000 people in the UK. Age is the greatest risk factor for Dementia. One in 14 people over the age of 65 and one in 6 people over the age of 80 suffer from the disease. Other risk factors include smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and/or diabetes.

Vascular Dementia is the second most common form of Dementia. It is caused by a decreased blood supply to the brain. People suffering from Vascular Dementia may suffer symptoms of a stroke, speech difficulties and physical weakness, as well as the other symptoms previously described.

Although there is no cure for Dementia, treatment is available to help slow down the

progression of the disease. This includes drug therapy and lifestyle changes. Providing the best care possible for your loved ones is always essential.

ast Spring my neighbour admired my display of daffodils.

“Barely any of mine have flowered this year,” she said, “What’s your secret? Your’s look better every year!”

I was stumped. How hard is it to plant a daffodil? Dig a hole somewhere round September time and pop the bulb in pointy end upwards - job done!

Except, when I broke down what’s involved, it’s not actually that simple. To produce a mass of bulbs which flower for a prolonged period year on year requires thought and preparation.

First, choose the right bulbs. Pick the largest, firmest bulbs you can find.

Then plant them in a deep hole at least 8 inches / 20cm and preferably 10 inches / 25 cm deep, in small groups. Most people plant their daffs too near the surface. This means they’re likely to dry out.

Dry bulbs lack the food and moisture required to build up reserves for the following year. This results in lots of grassy leaves and not many flowers.

Once the daffodils have flowered leave the foliage untouched for six weeks before shearing it off. This gives enough time for the bulbs to reabsorb nutrients from the leaves.

Unfortunately daffodil foliage is untidy stuff and in a small suburban garden it can

be very unsightly. There are two ways around this…

The first is to treat daffodils as annuals and plant them in potting compost in aquatic baskets among the other plants.

Once the flowers have gone the basket may be dug up and the bulbs

discarded on the compost heap.

The second way is to plant dwarf varieties. That way you can enjoy the

flowers without worrying about the foliage.

Time to get planting!

was given the pleasure of experiencing a spray tan from the lovely Louise Beard-Ritsma the owner of a fabulous new Tanning Salon, which launched in August.

Sexi Skin is a specialist studio where you will experience a Spray Tan of high quality and service with a personal touch.

This is not your regular Spray Tan, the level of care that Louise offers is above and beyond anything I have experienced before.

From the first moment we met she made me feel very comfortable, because lets face it I am about to get naked.

I was feeling a little nervous but after a few minutes of talking, Louise made me feel at ease and we chatted like us girls do.

Louise uses all the tools you would expect from a professional tanner even down to the preparation.

Before your tan is started the barrier cream is applied,

the hair net put on and a comfy towel for you

to stand on, (no more disposable stick on

feet)

The results are fantastic I feel bronzed and sexy.

Louise’s studio offers you so much

more than any other studio!

With fantastic, relaxed and friendly surroundings it

really is a touch of class.

Owner of Calcutta Presents B-TownIndian Street Food meets Milton Keynes

unique and exciting Indian Street Food tapas-style restaurant, located near Network Rail and Staples, is to open in Milton Keynes on Wednesday 20 August.

B-Town, short for Bollywood Town, is the brainchild of the owner of the Calcutta Brasserie and brings the authentic and soulful flavours and spices of Bombay’s (Mumbai) street foods to MK; delivered in a rustic and relaxed setting. From Bombay’s favourite street vendor snack Gol Guppa to Samosa Chaat, as well as the classics of Hearty Dum Biryanis, customers can expect to “try something new and exciting,” according to the owner.

Mo Abdul, owner of Calcutta Brasserie in Stony Stratford said: “B-Town is a project that I’ve had in mind for a while. The idea is to bring real flavour to the table and creating an atmosphere where customers can unwind. There’s also a Bollywood twist to the cocktails – we’re hoping Bollywood Mary and New Delhi Ice Tea don’t go unrecognised.

“If anyone thinks this is just another Indian restaurant in Milton Keynes they would be very wrong. There isn’t anywhere like this in the region and the food will be an education for anyone looking to expand their palette. These dishes come straight from my heart-

land and I can’t wait to share this with people in our City.”

Throughout the restaurant is a bold and bright theme with splashes of electric and vibrant colours matched by inspirations from Bollywood movies. The restaurant is split in two to create a bar area and lounge that spills onto the terrace in warm weather or a comfy area in winter where customers can enjoy a glass of lassi or an after work cocktail.

The restaurant is open seven days a week and at lunchtimes from 12pm where special

offers are available for lunch lunches and short lunch breaks. Sunday

will include a buffet service to allow guests to try new and

exciting dishes.

To celebrate the launch and to ensure staff get up to speed with the service standards required, the

opening offer will be 50% off food for August

20, 21 and 22 with limited availability. A VIP opening will

take place in September.
