Principal’s Message Happy Holidays! It is a wonderful time of year. The weather is cooling off, but the children are still enjoying their time spent outside. Please be sure to dress them properly for the weather. It is important they are getting fresh air every day. We are preparing for our much anticipated Christmas Concert. In an effort to make things more enjoyable we are hosting TWO concerts this year on December 15th. We will be having an afternoon concert and then an evening concert too. Our goal is to provide more seating for all the guests without breaching fire codes. I want to thank our PAC for all the work they have been doing so far this year. We have continued success with more and more parents attending. Come get involved. With the rush of Christmas, we are having our next meeting on January 26 th so be sure to come! We allocate 100 minutes of non-interrupted instructional time for our grade 1-3 students. It begins at 8:40 am and goes until 10:20 am. This means we don’t have bells, parents disrupting, phone calls, or staff coming/exiting classrooms during this time. We are part of the Paul Martin Literacy Initiative and are one of six schools selected in all of Canada. Part of the commitment is to ensure all students are here for the 100 minutes. This means your child must be attending school every day, but also must arrive to school on time. We are going to really be pushing forward and need your help with this. Please make those 100 minutes a priority for your child. Thank you to everyone who made it out for Celebration of Learning. It was amazing to see how well the children presented and shared with you all their successes. I am sure you were proud. I know we all were! We have amazing children at EES. We see how they are setting goals, taking learning seriously and putting first things first. Well done awasisak! We are wishing you all a wonderful holiday season. Our hope is for you to have a relaxing, enjoyable time with family. Blessings to all of you and Merry Christmas! Tanisi families,November has been a busy month in our school. One highlight was all the Niska feathers that students earned and entered into the draw at our assembly. The following students were chosen for a prize:

Niska winners for October:Lihanna Omeasoo 1S: being proactiveClifton Everet 2L: Synergizing by helping othersNoah Smallboy 3C: being proactive and sweeping up the classroom everydayWesley Roasting 4N: cleaning the classroomNazerin Minde 5O: habit 2, bringing agenda to school everydayJace Littlechild-Wolfe 6 (E2): win-win: sharing food at lunch time

In other news, there has been a launch of the First Nations and Inuit Hope for Wellness Help Line. This is a crisis line to provide immediate culturally competent telephone-based counselling to First Nations and Inuit young people and adults experiencing distress. Callers can access the Help Line 24/7 effective immediately. The toll-free phone number for the line is 1-855-242-3310.As the year continues, we often notice at school the ill effects of gaming as it affects the sleep patterns of students. Many studies have shown than playing video games at length before bed time can effect the amount and quality of sleep for people of all ages. It has been suggested that not having screen time for a minimum of 1 hour before bed can allow better and longer sleeper for children--something that helps them learn. Please feel free to call us at the school if you have any questions about this or anything else.

We are happy to be contributing to the school newsletter. We are now in full swing and recently we did a 50/50 fundraiser at the Celebration of Learning. Thank you Michael Bellrose, Joanne Potts, Lorelee Wolfe, and Jeremy Shirt for selling tickets. We made $106.50 in total and the lucky winner was one of our teachers, Erin Joseph. Congratulations!

We are having our next meeting on January 26th at 4:30 pm and at we are tentatively booked to hear more about the Paul Martin Literacy Initiative. See you then!
