CLIMATE CHANGE

ENERGY

CURRENTLY CLIMATE CHANGE ISSUES ARE DIVORCED FROM ENERGY AND LAND USE PLANNING.

THE ENERGY SECTOR HAS MORE POLITICAL WEIGHT SO EFFECTIVE MITIGATION ASSESMENT AND ITS APLICATION ON POLICY MAKING NEED TO WORK THEIR WAY IN THE POLITICAL AGENDA..

CLIMATE CHANGE FACTORS TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT WITHIN THE ENERGY PLANNING PROCESS

FACTORS TODAY POST 2012

IMPACTS Tropical glaciers retreat affect reliable hydroelectricity production.Climate related phenomena affect generation and electricity transport.

FUTURE COMPROMISES NA Depending on post Kyoto agreements, commercial treaties (FTA, WTO, ..), etc.Multilateral FI`s reduction cuotas???

CUSTOMER AND DECISION MAKERS AWARENESS

Poor It´s upto us...possible demand of electricity tariffs as a function of their carbon intensity. Demand of EE measures

Final Remarks

• Currently, no organized planning process in Peru as the government have retreated from the energy business. However, there is social pressure to regulate the market and give country directions.

• We aim to include CC into the energy and land use planning process.

• Peru needs an average of 50 MW of new electricity per each annual GDP point increase. Where this is going to come from?..mitigation assessment shall be part of it.
