MISSOURI DELTAMEDICAL CENTER
Community Investment• Services our community 24 hours a day, seven days a week.• Cost to provide patient care services to the uninsured and underinsured exceeds $7 million annually.• Operates clinics that provide free or subsidized health care services.• Offers essential medical services and provides vital economic contributions that strengthen the economyand health of our communities.• Continues to invest in our buildings and equipment to keep pace with changes in technology and the provision of medical care *By the end of fiscal year 2017, Missouri Delta will have invested over $44 million in capital improvements since 2008.• Invests in the caregivers of the future through clinical teaching opportunities, scholarships, tuition reimbursement and other training programs.
Economic Impact• Hospitals provide more than just high-quality services; they are economic engines for the communities they serve• Health care is Missouri’s leading private-sector employer and it is projected to grow nearly 17% between 2008 and
2018, the largest of any sector in Missouri.• 1/8th of the Missouri economy can be traced back to hospitals’ economic activity.• One primary care physician working in a rural area generates $1.2 million in annual revenue and creates 23 jobs
according to the National Center for Rural Health Works.• Every hospital job supports 2 additional jobs in our community.• A hospital of our size serves as an anchor for business development and expansion.• When companies look to locate their businesses to a community, a major consideration is access to quality health care.
Researchers have found a direct link between the availability of health care services and economic development.• Medical tourism is real. We treat patients from outside our community in specialties such as urology, neurospine,
orthopaedics, vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, and wound and hyperbarics. Other patients seek care at our Cancer & Infusion Center, Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit and GeriPyschiatric Program; patients and families seeking care at our hospital in turn stimulate economic activity in Sikeston.
