ROBINSON HAS BREAKOUT FIRST GAME

True freshman wide receiver Delmon Robinson made a

good first impression on State fans as he hauled in five

passes for 63 yards last weekend. Robinson had three

receptions for 42 yards in the third quarter alone.

B-MAC GETS INTO RECEIVING PARTY

Junior wideout Brandon McRae joined the reception

parade with a breakout four-catch, 60-yard evening. The

Chester, Va., native also hauled in his first career touchdown

reception - an eight-yard strike from Wesley Carroll.

DIXON CONTIUES TO CLIMB UP MSU

CAREER CHARTS

With 91 yards on 18 carries against Louisiana Tech,

Mississippi State junior tailback Anthony Dixon has now

compiled 1,825 rushing yards on 474 attempts in 26 career

games. The Terry, Miss., native stands sixth all time in

attempts (nine behind fifth place) and 13th all time in yards

(40 behind 12th). He also ranks fifth in career rushing touch-

downs (23, one behind a tie for second).

DEFENSE ALLOWS RARE RUSHING TD

While posting a 4-1 record over the final five games of the

2007 campaign, the Mississippi State defense allowed just

one rushing touchdown. In fact, Ben-Jarvis Green-Ellis' first

quarter TD for Ole Miss was the only rushing score allowed

by the Bulldogs for 25 quarters prior to a third-quarter

touchdown by Louisiana Tech's Patrick Johnson.

STRAUDER LEADS O-LINE

Senior Anthony Strauder, a pre-season Southeastern

Conference selection, paced the Mississippi State offensive

line with an 89 percent blocking grade against Louisiana

Tech in State's season-opener. The Natchez, Miss., native

also posted a career-best 13 knockdown blocks. Strauder

has now posted seven-consecutive games with a blocking

grade of 80 percent or better.

RETURNING STARTERS LITTER

OFFENSIVE LINEUP

Mississippi State returned 13 offensive players that had earned

a total of 123 starts at some point during their careers entering

the 2008 campaign. Strauder led the way with 30 career nods at

his left guard position. Junior Craig Jenkins had 23 starts along

the offensive line, and Anthony Dixon had 17 starts at tailback

entering the season.

NAMED ON THORPE AWARD LIST

Mississippi State junior defensive back Derek Pegues was

selected to the 2008 Jim Thorpe Award watch list, an honor

given annually to the nation’s best college defensive back.

Pegues was one of just 40 defensive backs nationally to be

included on the initial watch list, one of only eight named

to the list for the second-consecutive season. He was also

selected first-team pre-season all-Southeastern Conference

by both the league’s coaches and the media.

PEGUES CONTINUES ASSAULT ON MSU,

SEC CAREER RECORD BOOKS

Senior defensive back Derek Pegues had played in all 36

games of his MSU career before missing the first game of

the 2008 campaign due to a suspension. The Batesville,

Miss., native currently holds the Mississippi State record for

kickoff returns in a career (81) and is 26 shy of setting the

SEC career mark. His 1,790 career kickoff return yards is

second in school history (Tony James, 1,862, 1989-92) and

ranks seventh in the Southeastern Conference.

Pegues also holds the MSU school record with three inter-

ception returns for touchdowns, which is tied for second in

the SEC. Also, his 10 total interceptions tie him for fifth in

school history in that category.

McADAMS CONTINUES HUNT FOR SEC

PUNTING RECORDS

Senior punter Blake McAdams has started each game for

the past three seasons for the Bulldogs, and his career

numbers are approaching some of the all-time records set

in the Southeastern Conference. McAdams set a new MSU

school record for total punts with his 221 (previous: 217,

Dana Moore, 1979-82). He is now only 56 shy of the SEC

mark. His 8,736 total yards are 124 shy of Moore's school

record and good for 20th in the history of the Southeastern

Conference.

FITZHUGH PULLS IN PAIR OF PICKS

Senior safety Keith Fitzhugh put together an impressive

opening night showing as he intercepted two Louisiana

Tech passes. The fifth and sixth pass thefts of his career,

it marked the first time a Bulldog pulled in more than one

interception in a game since Pegues picked off a pair of

Georgia attempts in 2006.

WRIGHT IN RIGHT PLACE, MAKES MOST

OF FIRST CAREER START

Sophomore linebacker K.J. Wright earned his first career

start in the season opener and posted six total tackles and

a team-best two tackles for loss.

LINEBACKER DOUGLAS AGAIN AMONG

DEFENSIVE LEADERS

Senior Dominic Douglas racked up the second most tack-

les among all Bulldog defenders a year ago, and lead the

team in stops twice. Last Saturday against Louisiana Tech,

Douglas was second on the squad with nine tackles, one

shy of his career high (10, UAB, 2007).

LEE SOLID IN BULLDOG DEBUT

Junior transfer Tyson Lee completed 10-of-15 passes for

85 yards in his first-career appearance last Saturday. The

Columbus, Miss., native completed seven of his first eight

attempts.

FERGUSON GETS RARE FRESHMAN START

True freshman Sean Ferguson became just the second

Mississippi State player in the past 22 years to start his first

career game when he lined up at defensive end against

Louisiana Tech. The Miami, Fla., youngster finished the

game credited with just one tackle but was graded well on

his 46 snaps played.

BAILEY BECOMING DEFENSIVE FORCE

Senior Tim Bailey, in only his second collegiate start, played

a line-most 57 snaps in the season-opener against Louisiana

Tech. Bailey was a constant in the backfield, and finished

with two tackles, two pass deflections and a career-best five

quarterback hurries.

MSU PASSES '07 SEASON TICKET SALES,

STUDENT TICKETS REMAIN AVAILABLE

Mississippi State surpassed its 2007 football season ticket total

more than a month prior to the home opener. State’s Bryan

Building Ticket Office processed orders for more than 36,221

tickets through the close of business Tuesday, Sept. 2, surpassing

the ’07 total of 31,600 tickets sold one year ago. Season ticket

sales will continue through the SLU game and into the season.

2008 GAME RECAPS

August 30, 2008Joe Aillet Stadium • Ruston, La.

Louisiana Tech 22

Mississippi State 14

RUSTON, La. – Five Mississippi State turnovers, coupled with a strong second-half defensive effort from Louisiana Tech, ultimately led to a 22-14 victory for the homestanding Bulldogs over the visiting Bulldogs Saturday night at Joe Aillet Stadium in the 2008 season opener for both teams.

It was Tech's second straight win over MSU, paired with a 1996 triumph in Starkville, and the first-ever meeting in Ruston. MSU still leads the series 7-3.

Star running back Anthony Dixon led State with 91 yards on 18 carries. Aubrey Bell hauled in six passes for 67 yards for the Bulldogs. Wesley Carroll and Tyson Lee platooned under center. Carroll was 12-of-25 for 172 yards and a touchdown, but was also picked off three times on the night. Lee was efficient in his backup role, completing 10-of-15 aerials for 85 yards. Jamar Chaney led MSU defensively with 12 tackles. Keith Fitzhugh picked off two

passes for State as well. State led 14-9 at halftime, but LTU

shut out MSU in the second half of play, aided by three third-quarter miscues. On returning the opening kickoff of the third period, State's Wade Bonner fumbled while trying to elude a tack-ler, giving LTU excellent field position at the MSU 30. But after the first two plays of the drive netted just one yard, Tech's Taylor Bennett was intercept-ed by Fitzhugh, the second pickoff of the evening for the Bulldog defensive back.

After the teams traded stalled drives, another Mississippi State miscue would setup a go-ahead touchdown for the homestanding Bulldogs. LTU punter Chris Keagle's punt sailed over the shoulder of MSU's Jamayel Smith, who fumbled while trying to haul in the kick. The fumble was ultimately recovered by Tech at the State 9. Four plays later, Louisiana Tech was in the end zone. The short drive was capped by a six-yard run from Patrick Jackson and LTU led 16-14 with 6:30 to go in the third quarter.

Tech used yet another MSU turnover to add to its lead just before the end of the third. With State driv-ing deep in Tech territory, Carroll was picked off for the third time on the night, as Deon Young returned the ball to the 50. A State personal foul added 15 more yards to the end of the run-back, giving LTU another short field to work with. The home team was able to manufacture one first down and gain 24 yards to set up a Chad Oestriecher 28-yard field goal.

In the fourth, Tech continued its strong defensive effort, hold-ing MSU without a first down in the quarter. Midway through the period, Oestriecher connected on a 50-yard field goal to hand the homestanding Bulldogs a 22-14 lead with 6:48 to go in the contest.

After mustering just a yard on three downs on the ensuing drive, State caught a big break when the resulting punt careened off the back of Tech's unsuspecting Steven Howze. MSU recovered at the LTU 47-yard line, but could not capitalize.
