DAWGS WRAP SEASON AT NO. 7 GEORGIA Mississippi State lowers the curtain on the 2011 regular season as it travels to Athens this weekend for a three-game series against No. 7 Georgia. MSU enters the weekend 23-29 and 9-16 in SEC play. Georgia hosts its final SEC weekend 42-9 over-all and 15-8 in league action. The two teams have met 41 times previously, with Mississippi State holding a 21-20 all-time advantage. Georgia swept a midweek twinbill in Starkville last season after the teams split a doubleheader in Athens in 2009. The squads have split the last 10 meetings, claim-ing five wins apiece. MSU has prevailed in the last two three-game sets, taking two games in Starkville in 2008 after the 2007 squad won the final two games of the series in Athens.

HOMECOMING FOR FOUR DAWGS Four members of the Mississippi State softball team will be returning to their home state this week-end. Senior Courtney Nesbit of Acworth will be mak-ing her final appearance in the state. Her sister, Erin, will also be returning home along with freshmen Heidi Shape (Duluth) and Sam Lenahan (Lawrenceville). The quartet is the second-largest state represen-tation on the team. Five Bulldogs hail from Alabama. STATE IN ROAD CLOSERS Mississippi State will be wrapping the SEC slate and the regular season on the road for the first time since 2008. When closing the conference regular season on the road, the Bulldogs are 12-6 all-time.

MSU IN SEC TOURNEY Despite suffering three setbacks to No. 21 LSU last weekend, Mississippi State earned a berth in the 2011 SEC Tournament in Oxford thanks to a South Carolina loss to Florida last Sunday. The Bulldogs will be making their first tourna-ment appearance since 2008, and they will be the eight seed playing at 6:30 p.m. on Thurs., May 12. The game will be televised on ESPN2. DAWGS UPSET NO. 4 TENNESSEE The Bulldogs struggled in the opening two games at No. 4 Tennessee (April 21-23), but the team closed the series in fine fashion, notching a 3-2 upset that snapped the Lady Vols' 13-game win streak. The win was the first against a top-10 team since a 3-1 win against 6th-ranked Georgia on April 9, 2009. Mississippi State's last win against a team ranked in the top five came in an 8-7 victory at LSU on March 19, 2002.

ALI THE IRON WOMAN Senior Ali Bainbridge could be considered Mississippi State's Cal Ripken, Jr. This season, she has started all 52 games, including 43 at shortstop. Bainbridge has started all 226 games of her Mississippi State career. That tally is the nation's fourth-longest active streak among teams who responded to a recent survey. She is four back of the top spot held by Alicia Barkley and Alyssa Collins of Ball State, and Heather Johnson of Notre Dame.

2011 MISSISSIPPI STATE SOFTBALL 8-TIME NCAA REGIONAL PARTICIPANT

BAINBRIDGE LEADING FROM TOP SPOT Part of Mississippi State's success this season could be attributed to the adjustment Bainbridge has made to hitting in the leadoff spot. She made the move prior to the Feb. 23 win against Southern Mississippi, and during that stretch she has hit .330 with 12 doubles, three triples, three home runs, 13 RBI and 37 runs scored. She also has a .507 on-base percentage and .571 slugging percentage during that span. As the leadoff batter in an inning, Bainbridge has reached base in 43 of her 83 opportunities, a 52-percent clip.

ALI REACHES RBI MILESTONE Against her home-state Auburn Tigers on April 9, Bainbridge drove in one of State's runs to become the 11th player in MSU history to notch 100-career RBI. She was the second Bulldog to claim the achievement this season, as teammate Ka'ili Smith recorded her 100th RBI when she drove in all three of the team's runs in a series-opening win against Arkansas on March 18.

MOVING UP HITS CHART In addition to reaching the 100-career RBI mark, Bainbridge is close to achieving another hitting feat. She enters this weekend's series needing four hits to notch 200 for her career. She also stands two hits shy of breaking into MSU's career top 10.

BECKER LOGS THE INNINGS Mississippi State sophomore Stephanie Becker started all three games in the circle against No. 21 LSU last weekend. For Becker, it was her sixth-straight start and her eighth in the Bulldogs' last 10 games. During that stretch, Becker has tossed 46.1 of the Dawgs' 63 innings. She has also gone the distance five times.

COOLEY HAS BIG WEEKEND Becker's classmate, outfielder Jessica Cooley, had a stellar weekend against LSU. The Birmingham, Ala., native hit .364 (4-for-11) with a triple, her first home run of the season and two RBI.

SMITH SWINGING HOT BAT Like Cooley, junior Ka'ili Smith also had a big weekend in the home finale. The Kapolei, Hawaii, native hit .444 against the Tigers, tallying four hits in her nine at-bats. She also drew two walks in the series. Smith has been sensational at the plate in her last 10 games, hitting .379 with a double and three RBI. Her outstanding showing against LSU pushed her into the team lead for batting with a .346 average. She also has four doubles, a triple, two home runs, 24 RBI and 30 runs scored this sea-son.

2011 MISSISSIPPI STATE SOFTBALL 8-TIME NCAA REGIONAL PARTICIPANT

STATE WRAPS STELLAR HOME SLATE Despite the three setbacks in last weekend's home finale, the Bulldogs wrapped a stellar home campaign, finishing 17-7 in the friendly confines of the MSU Softball Field. Smith and freshman Sam Lenahan were solid on the home turf. Smith went 28-for-68 (.412) with two doubles, a triple, a home run, 14 RBI and 20 runs scored. Lenahan tallied a .400 batting average, collecting 22 hits, seven dou-bles, two triples, a pair of home runs, 18 RBI and 13 runs scored.

LENAHAN ENJOYS STELLAR ROOKIE SEASON Against LSU, Lenahan tallied two hits, but she also drew five walks in the three-game series. The weekend continued a successful rookie season for the Lawrenceville, Ga., native. She has hit .284 this year with a team second-most 12 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 33 RBI and 24 runs scored. Behind the plate, Lenahan has thrown out 21 would-be base stealers. Against Mississippi Valley State on April 19, Lenahan matched her sea-son high with three RBI. She belted her seventh home run of the year at Alabama on April 16, putting her one behind Nesbit's team lead. Against Ole Miss and Alcorn State, she hit .455 with a double, two triples, a home run and six RBI in the five-game stretch. Lenahan belted her sixth home run against the Rebels in the series finale, a day after she drove in the game-winning run on a first-inning, sun-aided double. In game two against Alcorn State (March 29), the Lawrenceville, Ga., native tallied a personal-best two triples. The pair of three-baggers tied for second in MSU annals, and they were the most in a game since Hayle Guess hit a program-best three against Ole Miss on April 7, 2007. Battling a high fever against Southern Illinois in the Feb. 19 Bulldog Round-Robin, Lenahan came in and pinch-hit in the bottom of the seventh. She won the game with a walk-off, two-run home run, putting MSU in the championship game. The homer, which came while she battled a high fever, was the first of two pinch-hit home runs this season and the first since Michelle Kinney hit one against LSU in 2005.

HITTING THE LONG BALL Mississippi State hopes to continue its run of hitting the long ball this season. Cooley's home run against LSU was the 35th the team has hit this season. That tally is the third-most ever recorded by a Mississippi State team. The 2011 squad's total eclipsed the 31 hit by the 2010 team.

NESBIT GOES YARD Senior Courtney Nesbit has done her part in helping Mississippi State to its stellar home run showing, belting a personal-best eight home runs in her final season. That total is tied with Melanie Morgan (1985) for third-most by a Bulldog senior, two back of leader Iyhia McMichael (2004) and one shy of MSU Hall of Fame inductee Kellie Wilkerson. Now with 13-career home runs, Nesbit is tied with teammate Ka'ili Smith for ninth all-time.

NESBIT EARNS SEC HONOR On Wednesday, Nesbit was named to the Southeastern Conference's 2011 Community Service Team. During her four-year career in Starkville, the special education major has been a frequent contributor to service projects on campus and in the community. She has assisted with MSU's annual canned food drives, and she also reads to school children through Bully's Book Blitz among other activities.

NESBIT STRONG VS OLE MISS ON SUNDAY Nesbit has been sensational against Ole Miss in the Sunday game the past two seasons. In the series finale on April 3, she went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run while matching a career high with five RBI. That outstanding showing came after she went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and four RBI in the 2010 series finale. DOMINATING THE REBELS Nesbit's home run helped power the Dawgs to a 9-3 win against Ole Miss that continued the Bulldogs' recent dominance of the in-state rival. Mississippi State clinched its fourth series win against the Rebels in the past five seasons. Miller's squad has now won 11 of the past 17 meetings going back to 2007, including 10 victories in the last 14 games that counted in the SEC standings.

ALI STEALS FOUR VS. REBELS Bainbridge has successfully stolen 20-of-25 bases this season, and four came against Ole Miss on April 3. Her quartet of stolen bases tied for the second-most in single-game school history, one shy of the top mark set by four-time all-American Chelsea Bramlett against Louisiana-Monroe in 2009.

MILLER WINS NO. 1,000 Friday, April 8, 2011, will be memorable to MSU head coach Jay Miller. On that night, the opening night of Super Bulldog Weekend, freshman Heidi Shape hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally State to a 4-3 win against No. 22 Auburn and give Miller win No. 1,000 for his career. The ninth-year Bulldog head coach became the 13th NCAA Division I coach, and 18th among all divisions, to reach the milestone. In his 29th year, Miller boasts a 1,003-665 record. He also rates as Mississippi State's all-time wins leader with a 294-250 record.

GOING FOR TWO Just as it has done with the long ball, Mississippi State has hit doubles at a sensational pace, knocking 67 heading into the weekend. That tally is the third-most in the Southeastern Conference, and it passed the 2007 and 2008 teams for the seventh-most in single-season school history. Bainbridge opened Saturday's game with her 13th double of the season, putting her one ahead of Lenahan for the team lead. Bainbridge, Lenahan and Nesbit have tallied five doubles apiece in SEC play. Nesbit's nine two-baggers are two back of senior Chelsea Raines for third-most on the team.

SENSATIONAL SENIOR SEASON FOR RAINES Mississippi State senior Chelsea Raines, a walk-on from Ackerman, Miss., by way of Holmes Community College, only saw action in five games during the 2010 season, her first with the Bulldogs. When injuries forced Miller to shift the infield, Raines was moved into the third base starter's role and she hasn't relinquished it. Raines has played in all 52 games this season, starting all but one. In addition to her 11 doubles, she has six home runs and 28 RBI. She leads the team with 18 two-out RBI.

SHUTTING THE DOOR WITH THE BEST Mississippi State pitchers have collected six saves so far this season. That total currently leads the Southeastern Conference, one better than Georgia and Auburn. Alabama and South Carolina stand two back with four. Misty Flesher remains the leader in the SEC with four saves this year. She notched her fourth in State's 4-3 win against Auburn (April 8) that clinched career win No. 1,000 for Bulldog head coach Jay Miller. The Lone Grove, Okla., native's quartet of saves is tied for seventh-most in a single season, and her six career saves are even with teammate Lindsey Dunlap for fifth-most in school history.
