Benjamin Bannaker- son of a former slave

and a former indentured servant. He was a

genius at math and engineering. He helpeddesign the nation capital of Washington D.C.

Jacob Lawrence, American painter. He

created paintings that looked like stories.

slave

whoescaped

to

freedom. She then spent many years of her

life going back and helping other slaves

escape to freedom.

Peter Salem was a freed slave who fought in

the Revolutionary War. He fought at theBattle of Concord and again at Bunker Hill.

He fired the first shot to kill a British soldier.

Crispus Attucks was the first person to die in

the American Revolution. He was at the

scene of the Boston Massacre and died onthe spot.
