A FEW WORDS FOR HIS HOLY LIFE

St Matthew was born on 1 March 1861, in the village Panefthymo of Crete. He was the tenth child of the family of the devout priest Charalambos and his wife, Kyriaki. In the Holy Baptism took the name George. At age 12 years, he enters in the holy Virgin Mary Monastery of Chrysopigi in Chania, Crete, where he was a reader. Four years later, he was departing from the Monastery, at the behest of the Elder and he went to Alexandria, to complete his gymnasium’s studies, which closed in the year 1880. After he was completing the program of study, he moved to Jerusalem where he met Patriarch Ierotheos who saw the godly character of saint so he introduced him in the Faculty of Theology of the Holy Cross. There were the later lead-ers of the subsequent of calendar’s schism, Meletios Metaxakis and Chrysostomos Papadopoulos.

He graduated in 1885 and he was ordinate deacon. As he was votary of ascetic life he wanted to leave and go to Mount Athos, although the Patriarch Nicodemus achieved him through the se-nior ranks of the clergy of the Patriarchate. In the Skete of Saint Anna he was subordinated to the too ascetic and tight Elder Nektarios, who ordained saint father as Great-Scheme Monk and he was named Matthew. After seven years of subjugation and obedience, Deacon Matthew was ordained priest. After his ordination as Hieromonk, he became one of the most eminent confessors of the Holy Mountain Athos. The monks of Athos called him as Great Cultural. At such point raised him the total self-denial and the passionate faith, to seek and ask God to help in his wish to take the martyr's death by love of Christ. He had close intellectual contact with St. Nektarius, who gave the Holy Father the officio of the spiritual father.

Page 8: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

In 1924, it was made the illegal and ant-orthodox introduction of the new papal Calendar, Hieromonk Mathew was fighting first for the restoration of innovative Church the in pre-1924 sit-uation. When, however, he saw how the papacy and hidden un-til then Ecumenism had been entered in innovative “bishops” of New Calendar, he has to preserve and to organize the non-inno-vative Church of G.O.C. (on the order of the Lady of the As-sumption, who was presented to him in Mount Athos, in his as-cetic cave). At the same time he ceased to write letters to his spiritual children of Athens and to inform believers on the New Calendar’s innovation. Also, in Mount Athos, raises with other Fathers zealot monks of Athos, spiritual alarm, so he was hated by the leaders of the community of Mount Athos and they pro-hibited him even to leave his Cell.

In October 1926, he went first of all Athos’ fathers to Athens and he started to organize the “small flock” of G.O.C. He was succeeded by fiery preaching and teaching of various letters and circulars, to increase the sulfur content of self-denial and zeal of the children and both they were advanced in virtue and life in Christ, so unconditionally we can say that the believers (G.O.C) of that age was comparable in merit, as the believers of first centuries’ Christian. It was also great his huge contribution to the flourishing of monasticism, by the establishment of two large and resplendent monasteries of the Virgin Mary (1927) and the Transfiguration of Christ (1934), which were the bul-warks of Orthodoxy on the land. In 1935, by common desire of clergy and people, he was concentrated as Bishop of Vresthenis, by then Archbishop ... (of Dimitrias German) and two other met-ropolitans (who returned to Orthodoxy from the New Calen-darist schism).

Page 9: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

After the fall of the Bishops of G.O.C. in schism (others went back to New Calendar and others followed the (former of Flo-rina Chrysostomos) Kavouridis with his heretical belief that new calendar is «Under Energy and not in act» schism, for the doomed five times Frankish New Calendar! Saint Father tried to restore them to Orthodox way, but they were vain in their mis-belief. On 1 September 1948, guided by the Holy Spirit, he made the first consecration, as was the only Orthodox Bishop to land, and after that he ordained three others Bishops. Thus he contin-ued the transmission of the Apostolic Succession. On 1 Septem-ber 1949, he was despite by the five bishops who declared the Holy Synod, as Archbishop of Athens and All Greece of Genuine Orthodox Christians. After total 15 years as Hierarch, he re-posed on 14 May 1950.

Many miracles and surgeries were done and performed by the Holy Father Matthaios. It was great as the Saints that appropri-ate to call him, and Prophet we could name him and that name by the works acquired since its future as he predicted and the great World War and the civil grief and many other events, he exactly predicted. From all the Hierarchs of the world, he kept truly Genuine Orthodoxy and led the Church’s vessel in port safe and healthy. It is the common calamity, evil world, global poverty, but let bless God of our Fathers because his holy soul is set on heaven and the holy body spout myrrh perpetually, to comfort us and to worship. Both during on the funeral, and dur-ing the deposition of the deceased in the venerable Church of Saint Marina and then despite the grave, ran plenty essence of the venerable closely, that surprised all people, who received this miracle as a blessing. The aroma was unsaid as the wishful clergy and lay are assuring. Not only during the time of the fu-neral and in the kissing of his holy body, it was spurting the

Page 10: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

essence, but rather at the time of burial and then the next day, as even until today it is scent.

His name honors not only the throne of the Archdiocese of Greek Orthodox Church and the clergy of Eastern Church of Christ, as this truth the near and far people admit. He was zealot as Prophet Elias, he loved God as John the Theologian, and he loved the other peoples as his soul and he has always trying for the rescue of our souls. One of the last orders was: “ΚΕΕP HIGH ORTHODOXY, SACRIFICE FOR HER”. In today's diffi-cult times and pre- antichristian age, we must imbibe by the holy water of Saint Tradition and to be linked with the Holy Fa-thers, by our great faith and to have before our eyes the Holy Hierarch Matthew, the New Myrrh- steamer who two things guarded and become GREAT in our time: THE APOSTOLIC FAITH UNDISTORTED AND THE APOSTOLIC SUCCESSION!

CONFESS OF FAITH

“If someone does not accept any ecclesiastical tra-dition that is written on or not, Anathema, Anath-

ema, Anathema. We keep the dogmas and the traditions of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic

Church, and those innovators who innovate the faith and every heresy we anathematize”

Below we present the Circulars against the novelty of the Gregorian calendar in the years 1593, 1756, 1848.

CIRCULARS OF THE ONE HOLY CATHOLIC

& APOSTOLIC CHURCH OF CHRIST

CIRCULAR ISSUED IN 1593

Whoever does not follow the traditions of the Holy Orthodox Church as the seven Holy Ecumenical Synods has established and the Holy Easter and the Calendar of the months well legislate to follow, and they wants to follow the new- invited Paschalion and Menologion of the atheists astronomers of the Pope and they oppose on these and wants to upset and spoil the Paternal dogmas and traditions of the Holy Orthodox Church (then) he have ANATHEMA and to be out of the Lord Jesus Christ’s Holy Church and the Faithful’ s community.

+ Jeremiah of Constantinople

+ Sophronius of Jerusalem

+ Silvestre of AlexandriaAnd the other bishops of the Synod Presents. (Year; 1593)

CIRCULAR ISSUED IN 1756

"If someone evangelizes unto you, despite those that you received and despite those that we evangelized unto you, not even he is an an-gel from heaven, even those we, let be in anathema", and the Synodi-cal canons which they say whoever wanted add or remove a single iota, even unto him seven Anathemas. And so acting on our Clergy and Christian Crew: We anathematize trillion even the Sacred Direc-tory or the laymen, to be away (in schism) by the Lord God, Almighty, accursed and unforgivable after death unsolved. Century oak and iron are going to solve but they do not in any way. They will take the lep-rosy of Gehazi and the gallows Judas. Close to be and tremble on

earth as Cain, God's wrath on their heads of these and their part after Judas and the God- enemies Jews. The land to fight them, as Dathan and Abiram ever. Angel of the Lord to take after them with knife all the days of their life and all the Patriarchal and Synodical dilutes, re-sponsible and in eternal Anathema, indictees and guilty on fire of Gehenna. Amen.

CIRCULAR ISSUED ΙΝ 1848

To the Orthodox everywhere; We keep the confession that we received honest from such men who did not accept every novelty, as it was dictated by devil. The accepting of modernity accuses as deficient the Orthodox Faith. Although, it already fully sealed, not open neither nor increase reduc-tion, neither alteration, which, however, and anyone who dares to do so or to advise or to imagine it already, he has already denied the faith of Christ, already he voluntarily submitted to the eternal curse because he blasphemed the Holy Spirit, as allegedly not well spoken in the Scriptures and in Ecumenical Synods. All who innovate with heresy or schism, voluntarily wore the curse as a garment, even popes and patriarchs, and even laymen and even clergy, even an angel from heaven.

THE PASTORAL ENCYCLICAL (1935)

OF THE GENUINE ORTHODOX CHURCH OF GREECE

Unjustly condemned by the schismatic synod to deposition and a five-year imprisonment in monasteries, and seized by force by the govern-ment (which has become the executory arm of the [New Calendar] Archdiocese, which by a mere word has placed itself above the divine canons, the [Church’s] Charter, and the Constitution of Greece) be-cause we had the courage and the spiritual strength to raise the glori-ous and venerable banner of Orthodoxy, we consider it our pastoral duty before we depart [for prison] to direct the following admonitions to you that adhere to the Orthodox fastal calendar of our fathers:While faithfully following the Apostle’s admonition, “Stand fast and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or by our letter,” do not cease from struggling by every lawful and Christian means for the strengthening and triumph of our sacred struggle, which looks to the restoration of the patristic and Orthodox fastal calendar within the Church; only this can re-establish the diminished Orthodox authority of the Greek Church and bring back the peace and unity of the Orthodox Greek people.By the judgments which the Lord knows, the majority of the hierarchy of the Greek Church, under the influence and initiative of its president, has placed the blot of schism upon what up until now had been its pure and truly Orthodox countenance, when it rejected the Orthodox fastal calendar — which has been consecrated by the Seven Ecumenical Councils and ratified by the age-long practice of the Orthodox Eastern Church — and replaced it with the Papal Calendar.Of course, this schism of the Orthodox Greek people was created by the majority of the hierarchy, which forgot its sacred and national mis-sion and the old Greek [revolutionary] slogan: “Fight for Orthodoxy and for Greek liberty,” and which, without the agreement of all the Ortho-dox Churches, introduced the Papal fastal calendar into our divine wor-ship, thereby dividing not only the Orthodox Churches, but also the Or-

Page 34: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

thodox Christians into two opposing camps. In assuming the pastorship of the Orthodox Greek populace that fol-lows the Orthodox fastal calendar of our fathers, and being conscious of the oath of faith that we took that we would keep all that we have received from the Seven Ecumenical Councils, we abjure every innova-tion and cannot but proclaim as schismatic the State Church, which has accepted the Papal fastal calendar which has been described by Pan-Orthodox Councils as an innovation of the heretics, as a global scandal and as an arbitrary trampling underfoot of the Divine and Sacred Canons of the ecclesiastical traditions. On account of this, we counsel all who follow the Orthodox fastal cal-endar to have no spiritual communion with the Schismatic Church and its schismatic ministers, from whom the Grace of the All-holy Spirit has departed, since they have set at nought the resolutions of the Fathers of the Seven Ecumenical Councils and all the Pan-Orthodox Councils that condemned the Gregorian fastal calendar. The fact that the Schis-matic Church does not have grace and the Holy Spirit is confirmed by Saint Basil the Great, who says: “Even though the schismatics have not erred in doctrines, yet because Christ is the Head of the Body of the Church according to the divine Apostle, and from Him are all the mem-bers quickened and receive spiritual increase, the [schismatics] have been torn from the consonance of the members of the Body and no longer have the grace of the Holy Spirit abiding with them. And how, indeed, can they impart to others that which they have not?”While the Schismatic Church imposes oppressive and intolerable mea-sures in order to violate our Orthodox conscience, we exhort you to en-dure all things and to preserve the Orthodox heritage intact and un-stained, even as we received it from our pious Fathers, having us as lu-minous and fortifying examples, seeing we were not afraid — even in the waning years of our lives — to withstand with boldness and dignity the bigoted and medieval measures of our exile and imprisonment in monasteries, as it were in prisons.Esteeming this as honor and glory and joy, according to the Apostle, who enjoins us to rejoice and boast in our sufferings in behalf of Christ,

Page 35: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

we counsel you also to have endurance and persistence in these grief's, and afflictions, and evils, and outrages to which you will be subjected by a Church that is Schismatic; and ever hope in God, Who will not per-mit that you be tried above what you are able to endure, and Who, in His infinite and unfathomable long-suffering, will be well-pleased to en-lighten those who, out of innocence, have been led astray and follow the Papal fastal calendar; and in the end may He grant you the triumph of Orthodoxy and the unity of those who bear the name of Christ, the Orthodox Greek people, for whom we struggle to the glory of Christ, Whose grace and infinite mercy be with you all.June 21, 1935+Germanos of Demetrias, +Chrysostom , formerly of Florina, +Chrysostom of Zakinthos

THE VOICE OF TRUE ORTHODOX CHURCH

AGAINST THE ECUMECISMAgainst the New Calendarists-Ecumenists

The official state schismatic [church] by its transgressions and apos-tasies, remaining in schism, is becoming heretical. In the commentary of the First Canon of St. Basil the Great (footnote 1) is declared: “A schism persisting wrongly becomes a schismato-heresy, and a schis-mato-heresy becomes a complete heresy” (Divine Chrysostom). We confess with all the strength of our hearts and with a tyrannical trum-pet we declare our Faith and confession as follows:We remain firmly unshaken in the Faith of our Fathers, in the injunc-tions of the New Testament, the Symbol of the Faith, the sacred Canons decreed by the holy seven Ecumenical and Local Councils, in the Teachings of the God-bearing Fathers, in the Decisions of the Pan-Orthodox Councils and Patriarchs, and in the Sacred Traditions. We exclude and reject every deviation, every addition or subtraction of even one iota.We are obedient only to decisions of Orthodox Councils. We denounce the “official” [church] as innovationist, as schismatic, as

Page 36: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

ACT OF THE HOLY AND SACRED SYNOD OF THE GENUINE ORTHODOX CHURCH OF GREECE

Protocol Number: 6/13-7-1983 Theme: Condemnation of the so-called

"Old Calendarist Ecumenism."

The Holy Synod of Bishops of the Genuine Orthodox Church of Greece in its session of July 13, 1983, addressed the theme of the so-called "Old Calendarist Ecumenism", and took into account:

a) That the so-called "Old Calendarist Ecumenism" teaches an entirely heretical teaching, to wit, that all the groups and factions that follow the old calendar together consist and belong to the One, Holy, Catholic

Page 38: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

and Apostolic Church of Christ, and it proposes a union of these [fac-tions] according to an ecumenistic perception and not according to the Orthodox Confession and Ecclesiology.

b) That "Old Calendarist Ecumenism" is a fruit and product of antichris-tian Ecumenism, the pan-heresy of our age, which seeks, through the fractions and divisions and the ecclesiological confusion, to distort the Orthodox Confession – Ecclesiology and to introduce this heretical teaching into the Uninnovated Church, in order to thereby suffocate it.

c) That the age, in which we are going through, is an age of general apostasy and ecclesiological confusion, which was caused by antichris-tian Ecumenism. Thus, the criticality of these times requires [from us] especially, a continuous way of life in the pure Confession of the Ortho-dox Faith and in the teachings of the Church of Christ.

d) That "the chosen vessel," the divine Apostle Paul, commands us all: "Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood," and continues: "grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them." (Acts 20:28-30)

e) That many have arisen, speaking perversely, for the purpose of set-ting aside the Confession and Ecclesiology of the Holy Church of Christ, and turn against the divine and Sacred Canons and generally against the Holy and Sacred Tradition, by preaching "Old Calendarist Ecu-menism" with bared head, and disturbing the assembly of the faithful.

Since "Old Calendarist Ecumenism" is condemned by the consensus of the divine and Sacred Canons and is something foreign and polemical against the Orthodox Confession and Ecclesiology of the Church of Christ, for this reason, together with our Holy and God-bearing Fathers,

Page 39: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

holding the divine and Sacred Canons in embrace, in the Holy Spirit we decide:

1. We judge and condemn the so-called “Old Calendarist Ecumenism,” as something foreign to, and incompatible with, the Orthodox Confes-sion and Ecclesiology of the Holy Church of Christ.

2. With one mouth and one heart we confess and preach that the Gen-uine Orthodox Church, which for reasons of discernment is called "uninnovated" or "Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians," is the continuation of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church of Christ, from which [the following] were torn off: firstly, the innovated new cal-endarist church, through the introduction of the condemned papist in-novation [of the calendar], by which Ecumenism entered in 1924; and secondly, the various old calendarist schisms, which were created by their distortion of the Confession – Ecclesiology of the uninnovated Holy Church of Christ.

3. This Orthodox Confession – Ecclesiology was printed and preached since 1924, and was Synodically preached in the historic year of 1935. We also keep it, preach it and confess it.

4. With one voice we disapprove and remove any expressions or publi-cations which, regardless of what context or by whom they were writ-ten, are unacceptable from an Orthodox perspective and are foreign to the Orthodox Confession and Ecclesiology, and we order that from now on, anything contradictory, whether it be due to carelessness or through human weakness, we regard it as having not been written. In the year of salvation 1983, on July the 13th (old calendar).

Act of the Genuine Orthodox Churchof Greece in 1957

1) We remain firmly unshaken in the Faith of our Fathers, in the in-junctions of the New Testament, the Symbol of the Faith, the sacred Canons decreed by the holy seven Ecumenical and Local Councils, in the Teachings of the God-bearing Fathers, in the Decisions of the Pan-Orthodox Councils and Patriarchs, and in the Sacred Traditions.2) We exclude and reject every deviation, every addition or subtrac-

tion of even one iota.3) We are obedient only to decisions of Orthodox Councils.4) We denounce the “official” [church] as innovationist, as schismatic,

as cacodox, paving directly towards heresy.5) We have no communion with the cacodox “official” [church], not

recognizing the validity of its mysteries, not considering its acts and condemnations against us to have any authority.6) We are indifferent to, and by no means fall by, the persecutions,

the placing of the spears, the imprisonments, the defrockments, the slanders and insults, the banishments, with which the “official” [church] unmercifully treats us, thereby becoming “God-fighting” ac-cording to St. Athanasius the Great; [the “official” church] bears not a single power, nor has the capability to shake our faith and confession in regards to the Patristic [traditions] and separate us from the Holy Church, the Bride of Christ.

THE CHURCH OF THE CHRIST & THE SCHISMS

The unity and the concord of the believers, as said Saint John Chrysos-tom in a word, attract more in the belief of God our brothers than the miracles! The Apostle Paul calls us for unity: «Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment». (Epistle to Corinthians 1st, verse 10). Unfortunately, today the picture is tragic! The faithful are divided and do not constitute an unified body of the Holy Church under the Canonical Holy Synod of the Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians of Greece, whose president happens today His Eminence Metropolitan of Thebes Crysostomos and the Church of Christ is facing divides (see notes) along with the schism of New Calendar and the Heresies of Ecumenism.Bishop of Thebes and Levadia Avramios (+2005) wrote about the schisms and the strong need to resolve them: “The Orthodox Church asked to provide a response to the concerns and controversies, not evasions, not ground, but stability and purity, with real sincerity and genuine love and pain for the present and future. Because of the paramount task is to remain faithful to Christ and into this institution-alized.Desirable and all our task is to preserve this resource, to remain faith-ful in per dogmas, stable, sound and firm on the faith, ready to de-clare love our fellow man each well. Love, of course, we understood that it is not meant as the Ecumenist-way, unexamined acceptance, brotherhood and union after all unabashed schematics or elected or, finally, after all, situated outside the Orthodox Church (clergy and lay, the lower and upper). No that is, by association or a simple hand-shake burning the files, but by union and love in truth, cultivated by

Page 42: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

the Orthodox way, based in the Belief of Saint Fathers, building in the Church’s spirit, determining by the Holy Synod. The union must be the result of a genuine, healthy and fair settlement of existing differ-ences between us.” (Metropolitan’s fastal message on the Surface of the Lord’s Divine”. “Thebaic Voice” No. 8 2005)The Holy Church of Christ provides the «in LOVE and TRUTH» dialogue on the union in Christ: «... peaceful Consider what separates us so con-cerned with the peaceful end to the error, with the help of God having disclosed the truth . But if you do not, it disclosed in all that you are un-faithful people». (Act V of the Cartagena’s Holy Synod. See Note 2 to the helm 99on rule of Cartagena Synod). Follow-up the Church has shown its faith in this dialogue by holding dialogues with the various separatist factions of Florinates (Akakians better) but even in the past not hesitated to call in dialogue the New Calendarist “Church” of Greece.Let wish all believers, to use the words of our Lord Jesus Christ by His prayer in the garden of Gethsemane just before His Holy Passion: “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.”!!! (John. Q '21).

NOTES ABOUT THE SCHISMSTwo major schisms harassed the Church of Christ

1] In 1937 became the first major and tragic schism of former Metro-politans Chrysostomos of Florina and German of Dimitriados, who dis-torted the Orthodox Admission, which declared in 1935 on their return to Genuine Orthodox Church of Christ from the Schism of new calen-dar. The Metropolitans initially declared to G.O.C. the followers of the new calendar SCHISMATICS and the Church of G.O.C. as Canonical and True Church of Christ in Greece. Later then, in their public sermons, promotes the illusion that the followers of the new papal calendar is schism “in active”, as defined by the sacred rules for those who breach the sacred tradition, but “potential” (!) and that the issue of the New Calendar will be judged by future «Pan-orthodox Synod», which will be done by themselves schismatic bishops and those in communion with

Page 43: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

them! After desperate efforts of St. Matthew the Confessor (then bishop of Vresthenis, then together with the bishop of Cyclades Ger-man (eventually, he joined later in the schism of the former of Florina, where he died) to return the two bishops in genuine orthodox belief and avoid creating divide, eventually the former Bishop of Florina and Bishop of Dimitrias (who eventually returned to schismatic New Calen-darist “church”) were cut off from the church as misbelief and they ex-pelled from the body of the Holy Church of Christ. In 1955 the former of Florina Chrysostomos died, and their supports had brought secretly into irregular bishops (new calendarist and old calendarist) in order to obtain “bishops” instead of come back to the Canonical Holy Synod of G.O.C. (which was created by the ordination of the blessed St. Matthew, Archbishop of Athens Confessor) under the late Bishop Demetrios of Thessalonica (+1977). Later they split into several groups and «sessions» ie sectary conventicle as far, Kallinikos Sarantopoulos, Cyprianos Koutsoumpas, Makarios Kavvakidis, Auxentians (as Aufxen-tios Marinis. Michael of “America, “HOCNA” etc), and others exploiters of wishful believers!2] In 1995 became the second major schism of people supporting vari-ous heretical errors for the holy icons, especially the Holy Trinity (Syn-throno) and the Resurrection of Christ from the tomb and generally the non-Byzantine icons (Russian-Classical) style, and which they regarded as heretical! These people, unfortunately, supported by the then Arch-bishop Andreas of Athens (1995 / died in 2005) and two other bishops (1995) in contrast to the majority of bishops of the Holy Synod; Metro-politans of Messinia Gregory (+ 2009), Matthew of Attica and Megaris (+2001), Theodossios of Fthiotis (+ 2002), Titus of Kozani (+2002) and Chrysostomos of Thessaloniki (2002), who remained faithful to the holy traditions of Orthodoxy and wishful respect of all holy icons, ac-cording to the Sanctuary Rudder. The Church of G.O.C. of Greece under Archbishop of Andreas, the Holy Synod issued two Pastorals Circulars (1991 and 1993) which overthrew the heretical doctrines and ap-pointed honorary respect to all the holy icons. Unfortunately, the tu-mult in the body of the Church continued, and they continued to sup-

Page 44: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

port the heretical theories about holy icons from the same heretical lower clergy and laymen. The situation deteriorated when Archbishop, under pressure from the misbelief environment hamper the conver-gence of the Holy Synod, fearing the condemnation of New- iconoclasts (so they were marked because of the non-acceptance of the Holy Icons), many of whom belonged to the environment, by the majority of the Holy Synod. In May 1995 the Archbishop Andreas came from the majority of the Metropolitans of the Holy Synod of the Helladic Gen-uine Orthodox Church in temporary holiday so that, after a long time of accommodation, to work smoothly again the Synodical institution. But then the Archbishop who was in discipline, made -in a coup way- no canonical ordinations of false “bishops”, because, according to the Holy Canons, it is required the blessing of the local Bishop for the Ordination of new Bishop in the area of his jurisdiction but apparently the election of new Hierarch demand the participation of all bishops of the Holy Synod. The transaction, which was designed to obtain the “majority” against the orthodox Metropolitans, tragically deepened the gap and led to the separation of Genuine Orthodox Christians, with tragic con-sequences today for Genuine Orthodox Church of Christ! Finally in 1997, by the Third Circular, the heretical position concerning the Holy Icons were anathematized Synodically as the heretics bishops and Glergy of former archbishop.

In 2005 the non- canonical “Metropolitan” of Mesoghaia Kyrikos (for-mer clergyman of the Church of G. O. C. of Greece) seceded from the separatist faction, in reaction to the resignation of former Archbishop Andreas of the “Assembly” conventicler and the enhancement of the former Metropolitan of Piraeus as false “Archbishop” in 2003. In the environment of Kyrikos are the most fanatical new-iconoclasts. In 2008he joined two of unknown origin, old calendarist Romanian "bish-ops" (?). They created a new sectarian and anti-conventicle session, however it should be noted that the behavior of Romanian is particu-larly objectionable as they come to give substance to schism-heretical groups and failed to inform the general objective for the Church to in-form what actually the Genuine Orthodox Church is.

Page 45: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

Also, on December 2002 with Archieratical Letter from the president of the Holy Synod, late Metropolitan of Messenia Gregory was inter-rupted the communion with the metropolitan of Thessalonica Chrysos-tomos, because of the declaration of heretical theories that: 1) The Church is without beginning like Christ but this is not documented any-where by saint fathers, 2) Christ (as person with the theologian mean) is without beginning, not only as God- Logos but also as man while Je-sus Christ clearly has a beginning as man in time, His birth 3) that the head of the Church is the Holy Trinity while the Bible clearly preaches in the letters of Apostle Paul that only Christ, as God-human is the head of the Church!

Last, on September 2011, Bishop Kosmas Skretas of Trikki was deposed for moral reasons by the Holy Synod of Genuine Orthodox Church.

THE FLORINITE SCHISM

1924: Schism of new calendar. Ecumenism is introduced by the New- Calendarism. G.O.C. condemn the schism- heresy of New- Calendarism and remain rigid in the Church. 1925: For the first time shows the error of "virtue and a not active"

schism by the Athonite Athanasios Daniilidis, by the suggestion of Chrysostomos Papadopoulos (the rapporteur of the innovation "Arch-bishop”). 1931: Unsuccessful attempt to join the G.O.C. under the schismatic-

heretic Archbishop Chrysostomos Papadopoulos. 1925: Publication of many apologetic books, demonstrating the error

of the doctrine of "under active and a not" schism of the New- Calen-darism and enshrined the Belief-Ecclesiology, that G.O.C. are the Gen-uine Orthodox Church, and the Innovative excised from it, the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church of Christ, becoming Schismatic- heretics. 1935: Three New- Calendarist Metropolitans (they were consecrated

before the Schism) Metropolitan of Dimitrias German, the Bishop for-mer of Florina Chrysostomos and Metropolitan of Zakynthos Chrysos-

Page 46: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

tomos repent and return to the Church renouncing the schism of New- Calendarism. 1937: Former of Florina Chrysostomos, maintains the illusion of the

“under active and not in" schism and create schism in the body of the Church of G.O.C. 1943: Bishop of Dimitrias dies and buried by New- Calendarists as

New- Calendarist Bishop. 1945: The bishops Christopher Hatzis and Polycarp come from the

New- Calendarism in the schism of former Florina, after having resided for a decade in New- Calendarism prelacy and denied their Prelacy. 1949: The Bishop of Cyclades German seizes the schism of former Flo-

rina. 1950: Acting Confession of former Bishop of Florina Chrysostomos,

which supposedly returns in the Confession of 1935 and disclaims on the "potential and a not active" schism cacodox theory. These were never implemented by the former of Florina and his followers, but his appeal in December 1950, when it formally declared that "someone had to pretend the old- calendarist Metropolitan" and "defender, he published it", which he repeated in 1953. 1951: Former of Florina Chrysostom makes the proposed inclusion,

suggesting that the old calendar priests could mention the name of for-mer of Florina, as Exarch of Old- Calendarists and he to mention the Synod of New- Calendarists so not to be understood by the old- calen-darists and to react again. The proposals of former of Florina were un-successful, as the New- Calendarist “Archbishop” Spyridon Vlahos put condition to indicate directly in his province. 1951: Former of Florina Chrysostomos is in negotiations with the

New- Calendarist "Archbishop" Spyridon Vlachos for making the Old- Calendarists under the New- Calendarist “church” with the mention of the priests of Old- Calendarists under the New- Calendarist Archbishop and the local New- Calendarists bishops, but the negotiations failed and former Florina is driven for a while in exile. 1951: German of Cyclades dies.

Page 47: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

1951: Former of Florina on the end of his exile by letter requested an apology from the New- Calendarist Church, which was given and stopped his exoria. 1952: Former of Florina with its own "bishops" waive the pastorate

duties. The text of the resignation is entirely denied the Confession -ec-clesiology of the Church of G.O.C. 1952: Hatzis melt and leave the Florinite Schism and brought back to

the New- Calendarism. 1954: Former of Florina is referring again to the pseudo-confession of

1950 says that he "defender" adopted it, and therefore it lacks signifi-cance. 1955: Former of Florina Chrysostomos dies without heirs Bishops, and

refer the matter to the death of the subject of New- Calendaris in fu-ture be held by the Synod of Ecumenists. Their followers formed a Presbyterian conventicle. 1955 - 1960: The followers of former of Florina seek ways to benefit

their affiliation in New- Calendarism or a old Patriarchate (indirect affil-iation). 1960: Followers of former of Florina ask one of Archimandrites to be-

come a “bishop”. They addressed in 1956 with letters to Souris (a ... false New- Calendarist “Bishop”), who denied their ordination, and Nicholas Katsounaki (New- Calendarists), who refuse. 1960: Followers of former of Florina, send Akakios to the Synod of the

Russian Diaspora of the then First- Hierarch Anastasy to become “bishop”. The Russian Synod refused Synodically and they banned the ordination of Akakios. Akakios nevertheless managed to convince the "Chicago" Seraphim to the "ordained" and offering him money. In this consecration by declaration of Seraphim took part and Theophilus Ionescu, a New- Calendarist “bishop”. Although Theophilus expressly denies that he took part in the consecration. Features he declares: "I blame that I participated ... this is one thing I do not know this man… It is a big lie..." For the consecration was made and capable of pennies and given tremendous vows at the Holy Gospel. Note that the Simony is the worst heresy.

Page 48: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

1961: Ordinations of new "bishops" by Akaki and Latin- Friend “Bishop” of Chile Leontius , acting in illegal meetings. "Ordained" Aux-entios (former cleric of the Church of G.O.C.) and Gerontios (ditto), etc. 1969: The New Metropolitan of Russian Diaspora Filaretos and his

Synod in order to meet the illegal "consecration", made a so-called recognition without revealing who were they who consecrated the Florinites. 1977: Cut off by the Church and appealed to the Schism of former of

Florina former Bishop Kallistos of Corinth. 1979: The "Bishop" Anthony of Conventicle of Afxentios and the for-

mer Bishop Kallistos driven maniacs for “Episcopacy” "Archmandrites” and invoking immorality, made in February 1979 in a coup and conse-crate the Cyprianos of Filli, Kalinikos of Achaia Kalliopios of Pentapolis and others… 1983: Break away the group of the coup by Callistus. He was expelled

from the Monastery of Angels in Athikia. He remains independent and isolated in monastery of St. Marina in Sofiko where he died in 1986. 1984: Cyprian of Filli disagrees with the coup and created his own in-

dependent "synod" in Resistance.

PASTORAL ENCYCLICAL LETTER OF THE HOLY SYNOD OF THE HIERARCHY OF

THE GENUINE ORTHODOX CHURCH OF GREECE TO:

№ 2566/January 23, 1992

Her entire Christ-named body: Clergy, Monastics, and Laymen

Beloved Children in the Lord: Grace be unto you, and may peace and mercy from God our Father and the Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, the Holy and Consubstantial and Life-Creating and Undivided Trinity, the Unique and Singular Divinity, be with you all. Amen. In these end times, the devil seeks in every way possible to sow tares in the flock of Christ in order to scandalize souls and to sever them from the path of Truth and Salvation. Hence, some years ago, there first appeared from out-

Page 49: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

side the body of the Genuine Orthodox Church certain arguments and even anti-orthodox ways of thinking regarding the representation of the Holy Trinity, the Resurrection of the Lord, the Descent into Hades, the Hospitality of Abraham, the Nativity of the Lord, Pentecost; to wit, through the ages, the Church tolerated deceptions and errors, and specifically that the representation of the Beginningless Father as the Ancient of days leads to idolatry. Indeed, some express themselves with contempt for the depiction of the Holy Spirit in the appearance of a dove, describing it as "the bird." These ways of thinking were adopted by certain clergy and laymen of our Orthodox Church who had been influenced by alien ecclesiastical jurisdictions; and they transmit-ted them, causing the scandalization of the faithful. Therefore, our Holy Synod of the Genuine Orthodox Church, clearly seeing the danger to souls from such doubts and consequent disputations over the Holy Icons, and wishing to preserve the peace and love and unity of its flock, at its last regular meeting on the 19th of September of this past year, 1991, diligently, and in the light of the tradition of the Orthodox Church, studied this matter, and decided to inform all of you pious Or-thodox Christians, Clergy and Laymen, through a pastoral encyclical rel-ative to the matter. Beloved Children in the Lord: Because we are mor-tal men and finite and incapable of truly understanding divine and spir-itual things, in His extreme condescension and love, the All-Good God has permitted us to understand about invisible things through visible elements and thus to be led spiritually to the adoring worship of our Triune God "in spirit and in Truth." "Not wishing us to be totally igno-rant regarding the bodiless creatures," St. John of Damascus writes, "God has clothed them with forms and shapes, and used images com-prehensible to our nature, bodily forms which could be seen by the spiritual vision of the mind; and these we make into shapes and im-ages… But the Scripture also has forms and images of God." (On the Di-vine Images, Apology III, 25) And thus the Holy 7th Ecumenical Council decreed, "We define with all certitude and accuracy.. that… the venera-ble and holy icons be set forth… those who behold them are lifted up to the memory of their prototypes and to a longing after them… For

Page 50: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

the honor which is paid to the icon passes on to the prototype, and he-who reveres [the icon] reveres in it the hypostasis [person] of him who is represented…" (Sacred Rudder, p.316) However, the same Holy 7th Ecumenical Council likewise declares categorically, "… we make icons… which we do not make into gods. We understand them as icons and as nothing else since they have only the name of the prototype but not the essence." (Session 7, Mansi XIII, 188B) [incorrect Session No. given in the encyclical. [Should be No. 5. See Translator's notes:] On the other hand, again, the same Holy 7th Ecumenical Council defines, "The making of icons is not the invention of painters, but is an approved in-stitution and tradition" (Session 7, Mansi XIII, 252). And the Orthodox Church continues and preserves this institution and tradition. [Incor-rect Session No. given in the encyclical. Should be № 6. ] Therefore, we too as Genuine successors to the Holy Fathers who preceded us, and as continuers and keepers of their faith, wishing to preserve the tradition of the Church regarding the Sacred Icons unto "benefit and benefi-cence and salvation" for the faithful, declare to all faithful Orthodox Christians that every Sacred Icon passed down to us, regardless of technique or style, newer or older, Byzantine or "classical," is venerable and serves the purpose for which the Church consecrated the venera-tion of the Sacred Icons. Thus, in a fatherly manner, we urge and ex-hort the pious Iconographers to paint, and the devout faithful to re-spect, honor, venerate, and kiss, all Sacred icons that the tradition of the Church has shown and consecrated. And in particular, for pastoral reasons, we reply synodically concerning those Sacred Icons about which doubts have been raised and opposing viewpoints have been set forth: 1. The icon of the Holy Trinity of "the three persons", that is, of the Beginningless Father, as the "Ancient of days," the Son as "He ap-peared in the flesh," and the Holy Spirit in the appearance of a dove, we venerate and honor. Of course, it is not as a circumscription of the uncircumscribable divinity that we depict Him, in as much as "it is im-possible to depict and paint the nature of God" (Gregory III, Pope of Rome, Epistle to Leo III, In Session 7 of the 7th Ecum. Council, Mansi 963D) but as the Beginningless Father, as He was revealed in a vision to

Page 51: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

the prophet Daniel (Dan.7:13) and to the Protomartyr Stephen (Acts 7:55), and the Holy Spirit as He was revealed to John the Forerunner at the Baptism of the Lord in the Jordan and as He is depicted in the icon of the Annunciation of the Theotokos. It is appropriate to remind our-selves that the Holy 7th Ecumenical Council, in the 5th Session, de-creed that the visions of the prophets are to be painted. And, finally, it must be noted that this representation of the Holy Trinity does not constitute a violation of the relative prohibition by God (Ex. 20:4), as some contend, nor an exception to it, but an accurate consequence of the Orthodox Christian teaching regarding the mystery of the divine economy and extreme condescension of the love of God, as St. Dionys-ios the Areopagite says: "The forms of the formless and the figures of the figureless have been set forth [before us]… since our condition is unable to rise directly to the contemplation of intelligible things and is in need of aids corresponding to our nature so as to guide [us] up-ward." (Dionysios the Areopagite, On the Ecclesiastical Hierarchy, PG3, 441D) [incorrect column No. given in the original encyclical. Should be 373.] In order to prevent conflicting opinions and divisions, we decree that the icon of the Holy Trinity of "the three persons," that is, of the Beginningless Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be placed upon stands for veneration in the Sacred Temples on Monday of the Holy Spirit. This icon of the Holy Trinity must also be imprinted upon the Sa-cred Antiminsia. 2. The icon of "The Hospitality of Abraham", which represents an actual historic event in the Old Testament, we accept and venerate because it depicts the dispensational and symbolic ap-pearance of the Trihypostatic God to the patriarch Abraham (St. John of Damascus, On the Divine Images, Apology III). This icon must no longer bear the title "The Holy Trinity" but simply the title "The Hospi-tality of Abraham." 3. The icon of the Resurrection of Christ, that is, the Arising of the Lord from the Grave, we venerate as depicting the Life-bearing Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ through which the defeat of death and Hades was confirmed, as the hymnodist chants, "Like a comely bridegroom Thou came forth from the grave as if from a bridal chamber, having destroyed the tyranny of death, O Christ…" (Sunday of

Page 52: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

the Samaritan Woman, 9th Ode, No.2) This is because, according to St. John of Damascus, "The Lord's Resurrection was the union of the un-corrupted body and soul, for He said, 'Destroy this temple and in three days I shall raise it up. " (Exact Exposition of the Orthodox Faith, Bk.4, Ch.27) It must be emphasized that the Resurrection of the Lord consti-tutes the cornerstone of our faith and the completion of our salvation, in that, "If Christ be not risen, our faith is in vain" (1 Cor.15:17), and, "while the tomb was yet sealed, Life dawned from the grave." In order for the iconographic depiction of the Resurrection of the Lord to be in agreement with the narrative of the Sacred Gospels, the grave must be sealed. To prevent and avoid dissensions and disagreements, we de-cree that, on the one hand, this icon of the Resurrection of the Lord be placed in the series of the twelve feasts on the iconostases, and, on the other hand, on Sundays and other Resurrectional days and the name-sake feast of the light-bearing Resurrection, the day of Pascha, on stands in the Sacred Temples for veneration, and that it be imprinted on the Sacred Antiminsia. 4. The icon of the Lord's Descent into Hades we paint and venerate, which the Orthodox tradition of the Catholic Church of Christ accepted from the beginning, as the confirmation of the death of the Lord (as perfect man) and the existence in Him of a human soul, and as the authentic portrayal of the Lord's triumphant entry into Hades when He dissolved the power of death, despoiled Hades and freed the souls of the Just imprisoned from the ages, and granted incorruptibility and life to our race. This icon, in its totality, bears witness to the Glory of the Lord as the conqueror of death, as the Sacred hymnodist also confines, "My God Jesus has shone forth the light of the resurrection to those who dwelled in the shadow and dark-ness of death, and by His divinity has bound the mighty one and plun-dered his implements" (3rd Ode, Sunday of the 8th Tone). Therefore, we decree that this icon be placed on stands for veneration in the Holy Temples on the day of Great Saturday only and on no other days. We must also make it clear that because of the disagreements that have come about on this matter, henceforth the title "The Resurrection" is not to be placed on this icon but only the title "The Descent into

Page 53: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

Hades". 5. The icon of the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ we urge pi-ous iconographers henceforth to paint without the depiction of the bath and midwives so as to give no cause for doubt regarding the pain-less childbearing by the Theotokos, as in the analogous circumstance, the fathers of the 7th Ecumenical Council decreed, "Confessing the di-vine childbirth to have resulted from the Virgin… without its being in-duced by seed; and preaching to all the flock, we require those who have done anything that was improper to submit to correction." (79th Canon, Sacred Rudder, p.289) [Orig. encyclical. incorrectly ascribes this canon to the 7th E. C. and not the 6th E. C.] 6. The icon of Pentecost we accept and venerate under both representations which the tradition of the Church has preserved, i. e. with the Most Holy Theotokos seated in the midst of the Apostles as "Mt. Zion," which is concluded from the narrative in the Acts of the Apostles, "These all with one mind… along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus…" (Acts 1:14), accord-ing to the interpretation of Sacred Chrysostom, or without the repre-sentation of the Most Holy Theotokos. Furthermore, the Apostle Paul is not be depicted in the icon of Pentecost, at the bottom of which, the prophet Joel is to be shown in place of the world, according to the in-terpretation by St. Nicodemos. Furthermore, the Apostle Paul is not to be included in the icon of the Ascension. [See Translator's Notes:] Beloved Children in the Lord: In a fatherly manner we urge, and synodi-cally we command that all of you faithful and genuine children of the church of Christ keep the traditions of the Fathers which we have re-ceived and Sacred icons of the Holy Trinity, the Hospitality of Abraham, the Nativity of Christ, the Resurrection of Christ, the Descent of the Lord into Hades, Pentecost, and all icons that bear the identifying char-acteristics of Orthodox Sacred Icons (according to the interpretation of St. Nicodemos in the Sacred Rudder), and those which the tradition of the Church, honoring and venerating them, has respected and pre-served. Let us strive through faith and hope in God, through prayer and the work of philanthropy, through humility and obedience to the Church to cleanse our mind and heart and to be lifted up from earthly things to heavenly things, to the invisible and bodiless, from earth-

Page 54: MISSIONARY CALENDAR 2012

bound and daily affairs to the heavenly and spiritual. The Church of Christ has a wealth of men who were church theologians and ex-tremely excellent in all learning, such as Symeon the New Theologian, Gregory Palamas, Mark the Noble, Symeon of Thessalonika, Dositheos of Jerusalem, Nicodemos of Athos, Joseph Bryennios, Niciphoros Theotokis, who never had doubts about any of the received icons. And we follow these men. Beloved Children in the Lord: "Humble your-selves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time… Be of sober spirit. Be alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. But resist him firm in your faith." (1 Pet. 5:6) "Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fra-grant aroma." (Eph.4:31-5:2) Make peace among yourselves and oth-ers. Let every dissension and strife be lifted from you; give no ground to the devil and his warfare and scandalization. As genuine Shepherds of the Church of Christ, watching over her vigilantly and attending to every scandal which springs up, plucking out every tare from the field of Orthodoxy, and, with the sword of the Holy Spirit, the utterance of God, purging everything that rises up against the Sacred Institutions of the Church, we are aligned with the Sacred Tradition of the Catholic Church of Christ and follow the teachings and formulations of our God-bearing Fathers; therefore, we stand firmly with fear of God, faith and love in keeping everything which has been given to us. Henceforth, ev-ery doubt and opposing view in the matter of the Sacred Icons must be referred through the presiding Ecclesiastical Head to the Church; and the Church, through the grace of God and the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit Which dwells in Her shall guide on the path of Truth unto the salvation of us all. With regard to all of these things, we add bless-ing upon all of you and pray that the Grace of our Triune God, of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen. Ardent
