HANDOUT: ASP Systems Jarod Wunneburger 2010 Norwood Readers Plus After School Program (ASP) The mission statement for the USC Readers Plus After School Program is as follows: Creating a Love of Learning – by providing academic support, homework assistance, building on classroom knowledge, and working to inspire exploration, self-confidence, personal responsibility, and a desire to become a lifelong learner. Encouraging Creative Expression - by exposing students to enrichment activities that provide them with the opportunity to express their creativity, thoughts, and opinions in a safe space. Promoting Community and Cultural Awareness – by promoting a culture of tolerance and emphasizing community activism, character building, and peacefulness as a way of life. The Norwood Readers Plus After School Program will achieve that mission by following these values: Every student deserves an emotionally and physically safe environment in which to take risks and thrive. Every student deserves the space to imagine dream and have caring and supportive adults who encourage and celebrate those dreams. Students should be involved in the decision making process of our program. If students feel they have a voice they are more likely to enjoy themselves and behave cooperatively. Every student and employee in our program has equal rights to be accepted, respect, and valued by others. We shall start with positive relationships before applying corrective consequences. Nothing we do is as important as the effect is has on a student.
