NOTICE! There will be No Exposition on Wednesday, May 30 as we are preparing for 40 Hours.

There will be no 9am Mass on May 31-June 2 during the 40 Hours of Exposition.

The opening Mass for 40 Hours will be at 7pm on Thursday, May 31.

Father Gary Writes

I would like to begin these few words by officially welcoming Deacon Anthony Astrab to our parish family. He will be with us until the end of July. I know you will give him a very warm welcome. Our parish is no stranger to him, as he attended our school from Grades Fifth to Eighth. Anthony has one more year of studies at the seminary in Boynton Beach and will be ordained to the priesthood at St. Jude’s Cathedral on Saturday, May 18

th, 2019 at 11am. Mark your

calendars, everyone is invited! Please continue to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. We are blessed to have a young man from our own parish, Kenny Keenan, preparing to go into his second year at the College Seminary in Miami. Next Saturday, June 2

nd, at 6:30pm in the Conmy Center, we are hosting a Benefit Dinner

for all our Diocesan Seminarians, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Book your place at the table after today’s Mass. You will find a Knight in the Narthex!

While I am on the topic of the Knights of Columbus (and Ladies Auxiliary), I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their generous gifts in lieu of the sale of the Knights Hall on San Christopher Drive. They have proved themselves to be worthy stewards, advancing the mission and ministry of Christ’s Church, in service of God’s people both near and far. $300,000 has been given to the parish; $100,000 to our School; $40,000 to our Twin School in Haiti. We added a further $10,000 from our own Haiti Fund, collected during Lent. This will pay for the Summer Camps. We wired this gift to Haiti as soon as it was received. This will give the school the opportunity to improve its very basic facilities, and pay the teachers. Education is a central component in the fight to eliminate poverty, which is endemic in Haiti. The gift to our own school will enable us to continue to provide a first class Catholic Education to present and future generations. The gift of $300,000 to the parish will be used wisely and well. While this is a large donation, on a campus our size, with all the facilities we have to maintain, it can quickly and easily be swallowed up in paying for such things as new air conditioning units! While we obviously have to maintain what we have, our main focus will always be our mission as disciples of Jesus Christ. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your continued generosity of time, talent and treasure. Please review your offertory gift each year, and if possible, transfer it to Online Giving, which secures a regular income especially during the quieter summer months.

This is Memorial Weekend, we pray for those who have given their lives in service of us: “I heard the sound of TAPS one night, when everything was still. I listened to the bugler play, and felt a sudden chill. I wondered just how many times that TAPS had meant “Amen,” when a flag had draped a coffin of a brother or a friend. I thought of all the children, of the mothers and the wives, of fathers, sons, and husbands, with interrupted lives. I thought about a graveyard at the bottom of the sea. Of unmarked graves at Arlington. No, freedom isn’t free.” Kelly Strong

News from Sarah Davis Hello! I am excited to announce (for those that do not already know) that my husband and I are expecting our first child in July! We are blessed to be adding a little girl to our family!

In preparation for our little one, beginning in July, I’ll be switching roles. I am excited to introduce Joy Bleiker as our new Director of Evan-gelization, Lifelong Faith Formation, and Youth Ministry!

It is beautiful to see our parish thriving the way it is, and the EDGE and Life Teen programs have been a beautiful part of my life for the past five years. I love the teens of our parish and I’m very happy to continue to serve our parish as the Youth Minister. Thank you all for your prayers and please know I am praying for you!

Hello Our Lady of Lourdes Church Family!

I am honored to be joining your community as the Director of Evan-gelization, Lifelong Faith Formation, and Youth Ministry! I have heard great things about the spirit and faith of this Parish, and I look forward to making this place my home.

My move to the sunny beach town of Dunedin will be long awaited after spending the past four years in

Chicago. I am a recent graduate of Loyola University Chicago where I received my BA in Theology with a focus on Catholic Studies. This past year I worked at St. Gertrude Catholic Church on the north side of the city working with the Religious Education program and Youth Ministry.

Growing up with two faith backgrounds, Evangelical and Roman Catholic, I have seen the beauty of the universal church and realized the importance of having a strong faith community. Early faith formation, especially youth group, was crucial to deepening my faith.

As I become part of this church I look forward to continuing the legacy Sarah has established, and loving this community as much as she does. I am beyond blessed to be welcomed to Our Lady of Lourdes. I look forward to meeting you all very soon!

All my Best, Joy Bleiker

Father’s Day Novenas There are Father’s Day Novena envelopes at the entrances to the Church. These are placed on the altar for 9 days beginning Father’s Day, June 17th. All Fathers are remembered in prayer during these days.

The parish office will be closed on Monday, May 28th for Memorial

Day. Have a safe holiday!

A COMMUNITY OF FAITH, KNOWLEDGE AND SERVICE

Dr. Anne Penny, Principal Summer Hours: 8am-2pm M-F

Travel is always a great way to learn about different people, places and things. Presenting new ways to look at the world opens our minds and hearts. Exploration helps us to look at life and lives differently. Travel outside of our art room creates a community of learners through play and exploration. Art, like so many other classes, is always more exciting as a hands-on experience, not just a book or video. In an art adventure like a museum, we can make connections, expand our minds, and in doing so, our world. Middle School seventh grade were privileged to go to the Dali Museum this year. It was eye opening, literally. Finding out how Dali painted on such a large scale and seeing brush strokes up close was very cool. Our middle school were all encouraged to enter art pieces in the art festival at Calvary High School this Spring, NPCMSAF. The experi-ence was such a wonderful way to expand our world from the people we know (friends and family who tell us how terrific we are) to professional artists telling us how much they love our art, and what ways we can make it better.

Second grade experienced a museum right in our own back yard. The Dunedin Fine Arts Center has a wonder-ful way of showing our students how important art is to a community. We were shown how to look at art through new eyes - things that you cannot experience in books. A bus retrofitted with a potter’s studio came to our campus to introduce the fourth-grade class to the fabulous world of clay. Both pottery wheels and hand building was on the agenda. The students had a great opportunity through hands-on instruction. The day was provided through a grant from the Dunedin Youth Guild. Quite frankly, the kids had a blast. This spring all grades were asked to create a piece for the Dunedin Fine Arts Center. There are only nine spots so it is a privilege to be chosen. As you can see, getting outside of our school into the real world is a great way to learn about our earth and the marvelous things and people that God has created. Let’s make our planet better by being the best version of ourselves. Let’s all create more art!

On the first Sunday of each month, we have a second collection to help with the recent renovations of the church: ‘Contribution for our Renovated Church.’ Please use the special envelopes provided in your packets, or in the pews, each month, or you can give online. For those who use Online Giving for your weekly offertory, you may select an automatic payment to be deducted once a month for this collection.

Three in One The number three has great significance in the Bible. In the Old Testament, God is the One who was, who is, and who is to come. The Temple in Jerusalem was built in three parts. Work undertaken for God was to be completed on the third day (Exodus 19:11).

The first of the patriarchs, Abraham, recognized God’s presence in the visit of three men to his camp at Mamre (Genesis 18). Likewise, in the New Testament, the Gospels describe the saving work of Jesus Christ as fulfilled by his resurrection on the third day after the Crucifixion, and Saint Paul refers to the three gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 13:13). Although Jesus does command his followers to baptize in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19), the term “Trinity” is never used in the scriptures. The Church has never believed that all truth is confined solely to the scriptures; it can also be revealed as the worshiping Church ponders the experience of God at work in the lives of believers. It took three hundred years of such pondering before the Church finally declared the doctrine of the Trinity: the unity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as three persons in one divine Being. For us today, it is important to understand that “person” did not mean independent being. In traditional understanding, a person was always understood, on some level, as being in relationship to others. So the three persons of the Trinity are always understood as three in one: distinct, but one in being. As human beings made in the likeness of our creator we cannot “go it alone” without dire consequences. We are all here to rely on one another, and so find increasing joy in a faithful life.
