Thank you for your generous support for our various ministries during this time.

It is a sad fact that 1 in 3 U.S. families report struggling to afford diapers for their babies. The reality for some parents who are forced, use one diaper for their baby for

days at a time, or scrape out and re-use disposable diapers or use items such as a plastic bag when unable to purchase enough diapers for their child, underscores the dramatic effect of diaper need.

“We are conscious of the great generosity of the many benefactors who support the Retirement Fund for Religious each year”, says a Catholic sister. “Support from the fund has been a tremendous blessing to our retired sisters.” Thank you for donating to last week’s second collection”

Diaper need affects the entire family and the perception of its future existence affects women’s decisions regarding the choice to abort the child or carry the child to full term and parent. Additionally, prolonged use of soiled diapers makes children more susceptible to skin and urinary tract infections. Discomfort from wearing a soiled diaper causes children to cry more often and wake more frequently at night, disrupting sleep and increasing parental stress. Low-income mothers struggling with diaper need are more likely to suffer poor mental health than mothers who do not struggle with diaper need.

In January, Knight of Columbus Council #15447 will be offering a chance for you to help alleviate this problem. Stay tuned!

  • FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 20, 2020Fourth Sunday of Advent December 20, 2020

INCARNATION TO PERSONAL REVELATIONReflection on Luke 1:26-38

When we view our Christian scripture and tradition as a whole, we see the story of God’s determined efforts to reveal Himself in ever clearer and clearer ways to people. God created us in His own image, God gave us the law, God gave us the prophets, and finally, God sent a person to us – God’s very self in human form – to show us how to walk through this life, and into the next. Obviously condensed, this view nevertheless will reveal how God has called and used human beings to accomplish His purpose. What a remarkable truth to consider, to reflect on.

The Gospel for this fourth Sunday of Advent is the familiar visitation scene – God calling Mary to be the mother of His Son. With her “yes,” Mary is elevated from an obscure teenager to Mother of God, from a time-and-space-bound human being to Queen of Heaven, from a prayerful supplicant to the eternal go-to Lady for intercession and perpetual help! The interruption of the Incarnation becomes, for Mary, the path to holiness: “Blessed are you among women!”

In these final days of Advent waiting and preparation, consider how the Incarnation – the birth of Jesus both in human history and in this very moment of your life – calls you to God’s higher purposes. With Mary as our pattern of holiness, God is revealing some of what God wants from us: to be a co-creator of life, a nurturer, a font of love, a teacher, a healer, a reconciler, a prophet, a companion. “May it be done to me according to your word.”

SAINT STEPHEN THE MARTYRFeast Day: December26 • Patron Saint of Headaches

Not much is known about Stephen except that he was a deacon and the first martyr. The Twelve Apostles called a meeting and decided to create deacons to help with preaching, baptizing and distributing food. Stephen is mentioned as the first of the deacons. He was a powerful speaker and was known to speak with such vigor that he angered the elders of synagogues. After an exceptionally potent speech about the murder of Christ, he was taken out of the city and stoned to death around the year 34. He is often represented in art with stones on his head, suggesting his patronage of headaches.

St. Stephen, you gave life speaking out about the crucifixion. I ask that you pray for my own pain

As I need help getting through my suffering. With His blessing, ask that my head be kept free of aches and stings

So that I may focus on taking care of friends, family And spreading the joy of His love.
