My Personal Nursing Mission Statement

My interest in becoming a nurse began when I was a little girl, and it has only grown

since then. I began volunteering at a local hospital when I was 16 years old and fell in love with

the profession. I enjoy caring for people and making a difference in patient’s lives as well as

their families. I take pride in providing the most compassionate and knowledgeable care

possible. My primary commitment will always be to my patient and their family. I will be sure

to evaluate my morals and beliefs, but I will always listen to and abide by my patients wishes. I

will be my patient’s advocate and always be their shoulder to cry on in times of need. A nurse

promotes, advocates for, and strives to protect the health, safety, and rights of the patient (ANA,

2015).

I have been in the healthcare field for over thirteen years and they have not all been easy,

but everyday I come to work I remember a saying I learned as a child “treats others the way you

would want to be treated”, I treat every patient in a way that I would want my loved one to be

treated. I will continue to be responsible and accountable for my actions and begin learning and

implementing my delegation skills to provide optimal care to my patients. My patients will be

impressed with my confidence and dedication to their care. I will ensure that I am a contributing

factor to the nursing team and be involved in the collaborative care of all my patients.

I feel that this mission statement will help me in the future by ensuring that I always

provide the highest quality of care and ensure my patients integrity and safety. I can look back on

this mission statement and be reminded of the reasons this profession sought me out, and the

reasons that make all the hard work worth it in the long run. I love helping people, and this is

what I was put on this earth to do. I will continue to do research and keep up to date on all the

current evidence based practice protocols. A nurse participates in the advancement of the

profession through contributions to practice, education, administration, and knowledge

development (ANA, 2015). I plan on continuing my education from an associate’s degree to a

Bachelor degree, with this I will gain additional knowledge and only improve my practice as a

registered nurse.
