Our Prayer:Draw your Church together, O Lord, into one great company of disciples, together following our Lord Jesus Christ into every walk of life, together serving him in his mission to the world, and together witnessing to his love on every continent and island. We ask this in his name and for his sake. Amen.

The way we understand Jesus (sent by the Father in the power of the Spirit) leads us to understand what God is up to in the world (mission), which leads in turn to an understanding of what the church should be doing to be in step with God.

a definition

A fresh expression is a form of church for our changing culture established primarily for the benefit of people who are not yet members of any church.

It will come into being through principles of listening, service, incarnational mission and making disciples.

It will have the potential to become a mature expression of church shaped by the Gospel and the enduring marks of the church within and for its cultural context.

What are the activities that God wants us to engage in as we participate in God’s work in the world?

31

• to proclaim the good news of the kingdom

• to teach, baptize and nurture new believers

• to respond to human need by loving acts of service

• to seek to transform unjust structures of society

• to strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth

Jesus, you invite us to follow you. Walking in your footsteps will take us to new places, will introduce us to new people, will sometimes make us uncomfortable . . . will lead us to life in all its fullness.

Help us, Lord, to follow where you lead us, to join in with what you are already doing in our world, and to become more like you.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.35
