Mission Experience News April 2020 God has been faithful to us through all our years of working together. We have witnessed the faithfulness of God in providing for our kids and raising up our orphanage out of the weeds of a field. We are now working on the last major projects within the walls of our orphanage to reach our goal this year of being self-sustaining. Self-sustaining is defined as having everything in house for our Haitian family to live off of what we raise, grow and provide on-site. This includes dorm two (fully funded), a reverse osmosis system to make our water drinkable (fully funded), chicken coops for egg laying hens and raising roasters (fully funded and built. We are waiting until it is safe to go out and purchase the chickens, a welding shop (built with some supplies on hand), we also have an irrigation system ready for installation so our garden will produce better crops. God is good!!!! WE have also finished the outside wall at the farthest edge of our property by installing two gates. This increases our level of security. Our present concern is that our monthly expenses exceed our monthly income. Our monthly budget includes both our Haiti orphanage on-site expenses and salaries and also the cost of maintaining our US office. (The ME Director and missionary leaders’ salaries are not part of this.) During this time, we are evaluating where we can cut costs, although we already maintain a very thin budget. Our income usually comes in from four sources: 1. Monthly or quarterly gifts, 2. Annual gifts, 3. One-time gifts and 4. Short term mission teams. We have never raised enough through monthly giving to fully fund our monthly expenses. With the low number of teams last year due to political unrest and this year due to the virus, we have had an almost complete elimination of the funds raised through teams. In addition, economic difficulties in the US has slowed first quarter giving although we have been able to maintain monthly gifts at previous levels. We do not know what impact the economy will have on anticipated gifts that are given through churches. We are going to run two campaigns at once right now. Goal #1- Increase monthly and quarterly giving by $3,000 a month. WE are asking you to pray about whether you can start becoming a monthly or quarterly giver or increase your present donation amount. Any size gifts are a blessing!!! This is the biggest help long term. Goal #2 Gift Campaign of $24,000 We need to raise $24,000 in special gifts to create a financial bridge for us over the next 12 months. These monies will fill the gap not covered by mission teams. We are asking people if they can’t become a regular monthly giver to consider a special gift. Perhaps you have been blessed to be working during this crisis and you would consider donating a gift from your stimulus check. Perhaps you have supported ME by your participation in an annual mission trip and now would consider a gift in place of your participation on a trip, or are willing to donate your funds raised for a trip. Even as I write this, we have just received our first gift of $600 from one of our regular trip attenders toward this goal. We will share charts in the coming weeks to keep you informed about how we are advancing. Thank you all!!! God is good and we will be back on the ground with our Haitian family as soon as God allows. Mission Experience News

April 2020

God has been faithful to us through all our years of working together. We have witnessed the faithfulness of God in providing for our kids and raising up our orphanage out of the weeds of a field. We are now working on the last major projects within the walls of our orphanage to reach our goal this year of being self-sustaining. Self-sustaining is defined as having everything in house for

our Haitian family to live off of what we raise, grow and provide on-site. This includes dorm two (fully funded), a reverse osmosis system to make our water drinkable (fully funded), chicken coops for egg laying hens and raising roasters (fully funded and built. We are waiting until it is safe to go out and purchase the chickens, a welding shop (built with some supplies on hand), we also have an irrigation system ready for installation so our garden will

produce better crops.

Goal #2 – Gift Campaign of $24,000

We need to raise $24,000 in special gifts to create a financial bridge for us over the next 12 months. These monies will fill the gap not covered by mission teams. We are asking people if they can’t become a regular monthly giver to consider a special gift. Support the

Orphanage!

Currently we have to raise

$7,850/month to cover all of our

expenses at the orphanage. Our

God given goal is to eventually be

able to help up to 64 kids who are

in the same life crises that some

of our existing kids were in.

Any gift will help! Please help us

share our story in order to allow

God to move in other's hearts to

get involved as well - Thank you

for your work in the Lord’s cause!

Metelson is a fun young man with a big smile and a heart for making people proud of his accomplishments. He soaks up all the affirmation and encouragement teams can give him!

He lives at God's Garden with his older brother Jamesly and younger sister Judeline.

We have seen him enjoy playing board games, ride scooters, and color.

We are thankful for the joy he brings to our GG family and can't wait to see how God grows his heart and mind and all the dreams they hold.

His favorite things and aspirations: Bible verse - Psalm 100, Color - blue, Subject - Math, for fun - he likes to sleep! (What can we expect for a busy growing boy?!) When he grows up, he would like to be a mechanic,

Needed large Duplo blocks

The ones that we are looking for are of the preschool variety. A few years ago, we received a donation of some, and our kids have fallen in love with them. If you have any used ones you would like to donate let us know. Thank You!

“Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name; make known among the nations what He has done. Sing to Him, sing praise to Him; tell of all

His wonderful acts. Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Look to the Lord and His strength;

seek His face always.” Psalm 105:1-4

These verses remind me of what I saw in our kids and staff in Haiti on our first video prayer call in April. The kids were so very excited to see everyone, and their excitement rivalled that of all the people on the other side of the screen. We got a chance to send our hellos and let their sweet smiles melt a little bit of the longing from our hearts.

Like everything else right now, when we get to go back is unknown. People around the world seem to struggle with unknowns like that every day… “When will things go back to normal?” Many are also struggling with how much more loss and grief are visible and in the forefront these days. Haiti is not exempt from that. The kids wonder about the virus and tell of how they miss all of you. They frequently ask “When are you coming back?” But what I saw that night in the kids reflected the encouragement of the Psalm. They were filled with joy just seeing us. We got to hear about how they all gather to pray twice a day—“Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always.” We got to worship with them right there on the video—"Sing to Him, sing praise to Him.” And we saw the joy they were filled with by just spending time together screen to screen—“Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.” In our prayers together on that call, among other things, we definitely “(gave) thanks to the Lord

and (called) on His name.” What a wonderful example our Haitian family gave us that night!

Our encouragement to you today does not include an answer to when we get to go back. It also doesn’t include a reason for this pandemic or an assurance of when things will go back to normal. But it does remind you that we have a faithful God who is worthy of both our trust and our praise. This month, seek His face. Rejoice in Him even in the struggle. Tell of all the things He has done. And let Him be your strength. Peace in Jesus, Ellie

Mission Trips - We are still planning on the June mission trips, but we realize that they may not happen unless there is a change in the present trajectory of the infection rate of the virus. Please keep checking the Mission Experience Facebook page for details. If you signed up, we will let you know in May about our options. Mission Experience is waiting until the travel bans are lifted before we schedule any more trips. Once they are lifted, we will make a new trip schedule public.
